  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) We should also point out that our initial source did not give any specifics regarding what the Angels would be trading, but did mention there would be salary relief coming. Now salary relief could imply cash coming from the Sox or the Angels sending a player with a contract. So if it is the Konerko piece that makes the rumor so bogus, than I find it very interesting that people ignore the fact that Konerko and cash or Konerko for a bad contract and prospects makes a lot of sense for the Angels. I'm I am the Angels, I'd consider dealing Brandon Wood, Gary Matthews Jr., and cash to the White Sox for Paul Konerko. Matthews has no value to the Angels, in fact he has negative value, and Konerko would give the Angels much positive value as a DH. The better question is if I'm the White Sox would I do that. And than from the Padres perspective, would you consider a deal (hypothetical) involving Brandon Wood, Jordan Danks, Hudson, and Flowers. Someone will tell me the Pads think they have there 3B of the future, but I'd counter and say that Wood is fully capable of playing 2B (if you can play SS, you can play 2B). So the Pads could fill 3 major holes in there everyday lineup with players ready who possess upside and get a potential #2/#3 starter who is ready for the majors. Ya, I'd say that could legitimately make sense for all parties. The team I'd question would be the White Sox who'd be giving up a whole hell of a lot for 2 years of Adrian Gonzalez. This is exactly how i took Konerko to the Angles. We have heard numerous Konerko-to-the-Angles before and usually they involved prospects, and to that end nothing ever materialized. I think salary relief to the Angles makes a ton of sense, and GMJ + a couple prospects and cash for Konerko makes some sense as this opens an OF spot for Juan Rivera for them and gives them a full time DH for far less cash at the end of the day than GMJ will cost them to ride their bench. This type of deal if difficult to complete all the way through, because this is probably largely contingent on the Padres being satisfied with the prospect packaged they received. Ultimately a deal could be structured as follows, although this is as unlikely as any talked about thus far: Angles get Konerko (salary relief) White Sox get Adrian Gonzalez and Gary Matthews Jr Padres get Brandon Wood, Jordan Danks, Tyler Flowers, Dan Hudson,
  2. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) I think it's interesting that Scott Reifert has yet to confirm anything via Twitter, given that he works for the White Sox he needs to wait for front office confirmation before announcing anything. Yea i'm with Kalapse here... i think something isn't being said yet for a reason... im getting the feeling that this trade isnt just teahen for getz and fields... something else is coming our way or the players involved are incorrect...
  3. I am going to start this new offseason off by arrogantly saying that MY opinion matters more than anything and I THINK we need to sign Nick Johnson for 1b/DH duties. This guy is a PERFECT #2 hitter for this team. He is a patient, professional hitter who isn't possessed to hit anything out of the park. Rotate him with Konerko between DH and 1b and holy hell we have to one thing this doesn't doesn't wholeheartedly have and that's someone who is INCREDIBLE at just getting on base. Picture this, we sign Figgins to play LF and roll with a lineup of: Figgins LF N. Johnson 1b/DH Beckham 3b Quentin RF Konerko 1b/dh AJP C Rios CF Alexei SS Getz/Nix 2b Speed to leadoff, OBP 2nd, all-around hitting 3rd, power to cleanup, and streaky guys 6-8, then grinders 9th... thats an Angles-esque lineup if you ask me, and dangerous enough to beat you in so so so many ways. Basestealers in Figgins, Rios, Beckham, Alexei, Getz. 20 HR power in Beckham, Konerko, Quentin, Rios. AVG and OBP conscious guys in Johnson, Figgins, and Beckham. and Can you imagine to RBI potential for Quentin if he stays healthy in this lineup!? WOOOW! Injuries would be my only concern here as Figgins, Johnson, and Quentin have all shown themselves to be injury prone at times. Anywho just my two offseason cents. Love the 6-deep staff with Peavs, Mark, Danks, Floyd, Garcia, Hudson. You can always find good arms for a bullpen and between Jenks, Thornton, Pena, Linebrink, Carrasco we have a good base to start from. 2 offensive pieces turn this team into a beast, and neither is a break-the-bank type. I'm going to spend the next 6 months praying for this
  4. Not that I'm a fan of comparisons either, but I think the best comparison has been, and still is Michael Young during his prime. Gordan could easily fall into a deviation where he has better years than young ever did or slightly worse. Lest this all still remains to be seen...
  5. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) Maybe he's always wanted to see Montana. I drive by the submarine used in the movie every single day
  6. Madison Youginer is still out there... another high upside HS arm. Hopefully the Sox can nab him in the 5th
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) Since I don't have a draft tracker, whose on the clock now? And is there going to be a break at all? I want to know if I have time to drive home or if I should stay a little late to catch the Sox pick. End of the 1st rd, there will be a 15 minute break before the compensation rd begins. Order in the compensation rd is as follows: 33. Seattle Mariners (Raul Ibanez) 34. Colorado Rockies (Brian Fuentes) 35. Arizona Diamondbacks (Orlando Hudson) 36. Los Angeles Dodgers (Derek Lowe) 37. Toronto Blue Jays (A.J Burnett) 38. Chicago White Sox (Orlando Cabrera)
  8. I dont think he is, I think he's implying that Texas is kinda becoming the new Coors Field. I think the ballpark in Arlington inflates his numbers a bit. that said, i would like Bryd for CF for the WS
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) Whoopsy. Hmm, well I wonder what other names are out there - CFs who can hit a ton and are nearing a payday. Anyone help? Elijah Dukes is the obvious candidate at this point, but everyone hates his checkered past and attitude, so it's probably a no go. He surmise could be had for a decent minor leaguer or two (say Broadway/Egbert and Ely) but thats just a guess. Could plug him into the #8 spot with Getz leading off and Alexei batting #2, and it would be suuupppper nice IMO. Won't get a lot of support from outsiders though...
  10. Where is Josh Kroeger amongst these options?
  11. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) I don't want to jinx Marquez, but... I've been pretty impressed with him so far. Im not gonna lie, he looks REALLY good. commanding 3 pitches (sinker, curve, 2 seamer). and really controlling opposing hitters by moving around in the zone. he has GOOD stuff, maybe getting out of NY and getting Coop to help him out with mechanics and confidence will help him become a legit starter. im excited, and would like to see him keep this up and win the 5th spot coming out of ST
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?g...chamlb_lanmlb_1 Lillibridge, 2b Alexei, DH Quentin, LF Viciedo, 3b BA, CF Beckham, SS Corky, C Myrow, 1b Negron, RF Kuroda on the mound for LA
  13. According to Rotoworld (I'm too lazy to link the blurb) the Rockies are probably going to non-tender Tavaras. If so, i absolutley wouldnt mind him on a 2 year deal, and have him split time with BA or Owens in CF. Maybe bat Owens against righties and Tavaras against lefties? would give us the ability to have speed in the lineup at all times, while putting them both in situations where they can succeed. no i havent looked at the splits in case im wrong. i think however think signing Willy wouldnt be a bad move. He'd be an adequate table setter atop the lineup and ease the pressure on Owens or BA to perform everyday
  14. calling his sb's meaningless is absolute lunacy. would you rather him sit on 1st and twiddle his thumbs? why dont you go through jose reyes's sbs and parse how many were meaningless. also, to call a sb a distraction when a batter k's is also lunacy. half of those situations arise when Ozzie calls for it (hit and run... yea baseball teams try to do those...), and the other half arise when someone like cabrera sees a situation where he's on 1st with 2 outs and a single isn't going to score him. why not try to get to 2nd so a single scores a run? in 75% of those instances you called meaningless had the batter not recorded an out and actually got a hit then cabrera would've scored thus not making his stolen bases "meaningless" put it this way, a guy like cabreras job is to get into position to score as often as he can. he would be far more worthless if he simply sat on 1b all the time because stealing a base would be meaningless... if you simply dont like him, that's one thing, say you simply dont like his attitude. but O-Cab is still a better option for this team than the 2b by committee we currently have setup, and is a quality player at SS. if you take away his slow start, he played very very well the rest of the year, and was absolutely instrumental to us making the playoffs...
  15. OMG I am praying for Jordan Schafer... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!
  16. If Mauer was a White Sox player, he would bat 3rd, TCQ 4th and Dye 5th. You stereotypically put your best "hitter" 3rd, and if we had Mauer he'd be our best pure hitter. I guess i could foresee a scenario where you'd bat him 2nd, but really i could only see that if your lineup was absolutely loaded or you had absolutely nobody else that could bat 2nd... just my thoughts
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) So back to the original deal involving Vazquez and Jenks to the Mets... Anymore talk going on anywhere about this, or has it died down? i think you're going to see the Mets venture into free agency a bit before they take a deal like this. They are probably talking to the Rockies (Street), Astros (Valverde), and Mariners (Putz) about deals as well. I imagine that once we see a few of these closers find their new homes that the dominos will fall rather quickly. If the Mets don't like the price tags of the free agent closers and want to spend their money elsewhere (Manny?) they might find is a better solution to trade for Jenks and Vazquez. Then again, what do i know. I think the Winter Meetings will be the stage to monitor. A lot of the offseasons initial movements are made then and I can foresee a scenario where a few of the SP's and CL's go off the market during the meetings, with the Mets missing on them, and Minaya coming to KW and revisiting the discussions they had regarding Jenks/Dye/Vazquez/whomever.... The Mets are under a lot of pressure to produce this coming season, being that they've narrowly missed the last 2 years, and Minaya will take the blame if they fail again, thus you can assume that if the chips start falling and he's not getting his piece that he'll make some moves against convention, which i believe this deal with the White Sox to be, and which is why i believe that it's not all that unlikely that Pelfrey, Murphy/Heilman, F Martinez will be White Sox come next year... i tihnk patience is the key here...
  18. I really don't understand all this Dejesus talk... the Royals have no reason to trade him, and on top of that why on earth would they trade him within the division. It is one thing to trade guys who are not projected to have a significant impact during the offseason to a division rival, but they won't give us Dejesus (who's one of their best players) to the White Sox for anything less than a rape job. In order to be more clear... THE ROYALS WONT TRADE DEJESUS TO THE SOX UNLESS IT'S A KINGS RANSOM... that ransom might look like Poreda, Fields, and Brandon Allen/Chris Getz... it wouldnt make any sense for the Royals otherwise...
  19. just my quick two cents... if we trade Jenks and Javy for Pelfrey, D. Murphy, and F. Martinez i'm going to carve a KW statue myself. I dont care how much you love the current production of Javy and Jenks... Closers are replaceable and Javy is a mess in high pressure... Pelfrey can be a legit top of the rotation/Derek Low type, Daniel Murphy can be a huge addition because he's the IDEAL #2 hitter, and we can play him at 2b/3b/LF which gives us versatility that Ozzie loves, and F. Mart - no matter what you think of the guy - has superstar potential and is only 19... this would be a huge haul for Kenny. ABSOLUTELY HUGE... not to mention the cost savings...
  20. i figured this should be posted, and am surprised nobody has mentioned it yet. This wouldn't necessarily be the finished deal, but the main names are those listed... this would give us maybe the highest rated CF prospect in the game outside Colby Rasmus, and another stud young pitcher to go with Danks/Floyd. Also, this trade would save us about $15 million to put towards something really big... if this trade was made we'd have some $20mil in spare change from this trade and the swisher trade to put towards free agency or a big gun in a trade... im curious to see how badly everyone reacts to this...
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) Doesn't BA release a top 30 eventually or no? They do, but it's for BA subscriber's only. I would also go as far to guess that 11-15 on that list includes guys like Brent Morel, Steven Upchurch, Dexter Carter, Daniel Hudson which is a testiment to the talent that we also have coming on in the lower minor league levels. I would almost expect those guys to be on the list next year once Getz, Richard, and others lose their prospect status. It's kind of crazy to think about, but i don't remember a time where we actually had some decent depth in the system. i can think of ten guys off the top of my head who are exciting prospects that didnt make the list. Besides guys like Morel, Upchurch, Carter, and Hudson you can also consider guys like Jon Link, Lucas Harrell if he ever puts it together, Nevin Griffith if he ever puts it together, Juan Silveiro, Jose Martinez, Kent Gerst, Tyler Kunz, etc. Sounds weird, but Kenny and Co have done a great job building up talent over the last couple years as we have some serious depth at the lower levels
  22. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...009/267205.html 1. Gordon Beckham, ss 2. Aaron Poreda, lhp 3. Clayton Richard, lhp 4. Brandon Allen, 1b 5. Jordan Danks, of 6. Chris Getz, 2b 7. John Shelby, oF 8. John Ely, rhp 9. Cole Armstrong, c 10. Eduardo Escobar, ss Looking at the tools and telent on this list, i really do consider this the best top 10 prospect list we've had in some time, mostly considering that i can actually see 6-8 of these guys having the tools to be solid major leaguers (beckham, poreda, richard, danks, getz, cole) while a few have the ability to break out in a big way (allen, shelby) exciting because most of these guys are close to contributing and shows how quickly KW and his staff are turning the farm around.
  23. I really think all this Bobby Jenks talk is for not. I bet, much like DBAHO said, that the talks are for two significant pieces a la Murphy and Martinez for Jenks, and the Mets won't consider that unless they strike out on all the Free Agent closers. I am of the frame of mind that K-Rod is #1 on their list, and they'll make a run at signing him to a Francisco Cordero -like deal. If they miss on him they still have options like Wood, Hoffman, Fuentes, ect. I still think, even if they miss on all those guys, that they would be more inclined to offer something to the Rockies for Huston Street than trade for Jenks, if for no other reason than that they could probably get Street for a package built around Kunz and Neise, as opposed to one built around Muprhy and Martinez... I dunno, but i dont see Omar forking over significant pieces to his team unless he feels he has to
