  1. Just scored a Lawrie medium fatheads for 4 bucks. He's in a Toronto uniform but I don't care. He'll look good in my gym. Also scored to Paulie ones!
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 27, 2016 -> 03:02 AM) For what? LF? I mean, I guess getting Rollins doesn't really block anyone since it was a minor league deal, but I can't imagine Jimmy would be happy whatsoever if this were to happy. He would have essentially been to lied to. If it were for LF/RF I'd hope they get him in ASAP so he can be with the team and start working. Rather have Desmond though for that. Could be agent too we've literally been linked to every single bat with a pick attached to them outside of Heyward. Or it seems that way
  3. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 02:39 AM) There has been progress, ever since the RBI program started we've seen more black players drafted than any time in recent memory. The lack of black fathers has something to do with it and another thing that contributes to it is that black people don't feel welcome when it comes to baseball, because the vast majority of us feel like our culture is not welcomed. Look at this: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseba...-his-hat-around You're a black player and when you do something 'not white' you're told to stop. On the other hand Terry Collins allowed Yo to smoke in the dug out...
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 24, 2016 -> 06:58 PM) Ugh, I hate posts like this. We're coming off a poor season with a position player group who was historically bad and you're actually ripping fans that aren't satisfied with the addition of one impact player and two other solid positional upgrades. No doubt we're better, but the question is are we good enough to be legit contenders? The AL Central is going to be incredibly competitive next year and it is easily could come down to a game or two. Starting both Avi Garcia & Adam LaRoche in the same lineup without anyone pushing them for playing time is a recipe for disaster, especially when you consider how flush with OF talent the market was. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the front office didn't have the means to pull off a complete offseason, then they should have gone in a different direction and took advantage of the insane pitching prices. Right now, the Sox have half-assed and I don't get why you constantly applaud them for that. Hopefully they add another OF in the next few weeks and make this debate pointless, but until then let's stop ripping Sox fans who aren't simply happy with "better" than last year. I get what you're saying, but why can't people be happy with the huge upgrades he pointed out? We got a top talent at 3rd to upgrade a historically bad black hole from last season. An upgrade at 2nd over again a historically bad black hole last season. I will say not sure if we upgraded at SS. Seems we have defensively and potential offensively depending who wins the job. Yes only one of those additions are all star caliber but the additions to quality from what we had are humongous. We've upgraded 3-4 positions in 1 off season, that's huge. Is signing another solid positional upgrade going to put us over the top to be favorites? Maybe but not with what is left. These Sox fans that are upset with not signing Cespedes/Upton/Gordon are likely the same fans that were happy with the signings from last year who now hate the front office because they all flopped. Granted Gordon has less of a chance to flop as he knows the division but I just never felt he was leaving KC. Cespedes is an extremely talented yet streaky player, not sure 27 million this year is worth it plus I don't think he wanted to leave NY. He found his greatest success there plus a huge market. Upton apparently had no interest in joining us. I do wish they signed Fowler especially for 11 mil a year, but then again I only wanted them to sign him after I found out how cheap he did sign for. I am still happy with the off season, Rome wasn't built in a day. I will say if come mid year we trade for an OF and give up Anderson, Fulmer, Adams I will be furious. I still hope they sign Jackson, to at least push Avi if not push him to DH platoon.
  5. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 06:24 PM) The revelation that we're in the market for an OF today..is...a real stunner Hell YEAH
  6. QUOTE (staxx @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) This. I'm shocked at the negative reaction to this. Probably for the fact some just really want a move for an OF'er to be made. All off season we have been linked to every OF'er on the market. They all have signed elsewhere. At 1 point no one wanted Fowler but the fact he was the last one left makes it sting to some more. I didn't want him but he would have been a nice corner defender that gets on base at a high clip. He would fit nicely. I do hope we sign someone but I for one am not upset with losing out on the Fowler race. (Well reportedly losing out on the Fowler race).
  7. I would be ecstatic if that were the plan to sign Hernandez. Everything I read about him is positive. I wouldn't mind buying low on Bruce as he has had 2 down years in a row. If he could return to form with his .330ish OBP with some power he would be a good edition. As long as we aren't giving the farm. He's only signed for this year plus a team option for next year.
  8. Report is Baltimore is expected to sign Gallardo and Fowler. 2 years 12-13 mil a year for Fowler.
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) it was a shear luck of the draw.... that the player decided to accept the sox offer instead of any of the others, which had more on the table. going into this discussion with latos, is anyone going to debate that the FO had it in mind that latos would accept their offer???? c'mon be serious, they knew that their offer would be good enuf??? IMO if they didn't think their offer would be good enough why even offer it? Even if they thought they had an outside shot. They wouldn't offer a contract thinking the player wouldn't accept it just to say "oh man we tried and struck out" or they wouldn't offer the contract if they didn't have interest in said player and vice versa. If Latos hadn't showed legitimate interest in us they would have never offered a contract in the first place.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) How come when it is about players on other teams we don't get 20 posts about these being fluff pieces? That's just a fluff piece to get more out of the Sox in a trade
  11. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 10:18 PM) Thanks for posting the link. The main reason I have not thought that much about Braun is that KW does not seem to care for steroid users. I realize there are players on the Sox who have used PEDs. But the Braun thing was very public. So was Melky though. Possible I guess. Melky Cabrera didn't get suspended for drinking milk. Didn't he trade for Manny too? Q also has a mark on his resume of them. I don't want Braun if he has had back issues. I like the idea of Yadiel Hernandez from the few things I've seen mentioned about him, just not sure how realistic it is for us to sign him. But he has legit skills getting on base, plus he's a threat on the bases. .937 OPS over his career so hopefully that translates if he signs here.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) Sometimes choice #4or #5 turns out better than your other ones. KW wasn't nearly as hated when the Sox had smaller payrolls and had to go farther down his wish list. When more money became available, the choices higher on the list were acquired and they didn't work out. Right now, I don't think there is a Sox fan anywhere that doesn't want them to have one of Cespedes, Upton, or Gordon, but a couple of years from now it is pretty unlikely we won't be thinking thank God the Sox didn't sign at least one of these guys. There are still players available both free agents and trades, and the season doesn't start for over 2 months. The fact that they let Alexei walk over $4 million indicates to me they aren't just going to stand pat here. I would really be surprised if another starting quality OF isn't acquired, and maybe a guy like Desmond, although I can't see that on a one year contract, and if he goes multiple, where will he play assuming Anderson continues to grow? Early in the offseason I mentioned Desmond and thought he could move to 3rd, but that was before Frazier. Assuming Anderson takes 2 years to be ready, Lawrie and Frazier are free agents in 2 years. So if Desmond is still under contract then he could move to maybe 3B or 2nd. If Anderson is ready next year, potentially trade one of the 3 Frazier, Desmond, Lawrie. Maybe Lawrie can play OF he is a ridiculous athlete. That said I wouldn't sign Desmond with the intention of switching a players position just because.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) i really hate to say this, but we as fans has been condition for this kind of expectation. but again, i can see a 1 yr at 27.5 mil for a salary.... but it is hard to swallow. but, the sox would have been a very formidable team to deal with.... and again, but the sox still need another hole or 2 to fix, but the owners do have that money to use...... as you can see i am flopping around as a fish out of the water. I don't see how anyone can dog the Sox for not signing him. 27.5 million a year for him is ridiculous. Especially being if he has a good year he's gone, if he has a decent year he is probably gone. The only way he stays is if he sucks. Then we are on the hook for 42.5 over 2 years. Then the ones that are b****ing and moaning now (not saying anyone here) will be the ones that are b****ing and moaning over a bad contract having 21.5 million tied up in 1 guy that flopped completely. It's like teachers with snow days... complain when they have to go to school when it snows, complain more when they have to make up days at the end of the year.
  14. I have a screaming suspicion that nothing is going to happen tonight
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 07:45 PM) If we get Cespedes we have to deal Avi or Melky. I'm not a big fan of the Melk-ster. Trade him. Have outfield of Cespedes, Eaton and Avi and get a middle reliever for Melky?? We probably could use Cespedes' presence in the lineup. I think it's more realistic to send Avi down to AAA in this scenario with Schuck being the 4th OF.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) No he's never played the OF. It was mentioned on the intranet a month or so ago, and a couple of people ran with it, but if he isn't worth the contract he is going to get as a SS, I have no idea why he would be worth it as an OF. He would have to be a SS. It would make no sense to bring him in as a OF. If you want to work with him when you get him to see if he is truly capable of that, and to make room for Anderson or Saladino at SS, that makes sense. But to bring him in as anything but a SS initially would be hard to understand the logic. I agree with this completely. I didn't think Desmond had played OF it doesn't make sense to give up a pick for a stop gap turned project. I really feel Austin Jackson and a 2nd tier pitcher are the way to go now. Save that pick help 2 positions
  17. At first I was very optimistic about one of the big 3. Yo being who I was most optimistic about with all the reports. Upton getting 6 years 130+ diminishes all optimism for Yo. That said I would be cool with going A Jackson and someone like Latos on a prove it deal. I'm not a fan of giving up a pick for Fowler who I've been a fan of his tools since his days in Colorado. People suggesting Desmond for stop gap SS then OF next year. Has he ever played the OF? I don't follow the Nats but he never blew me away when I would occasionally watch the game so I'm not the best to judge him but for the price difference I guess him paired with Jackson and Latos would be OK.
  18. Had a dream last night Yo showed up at I guess Soxfest (I've never been to that or know what it looks like) haha and gave fans a chance to sell him on Chicago. The decision was between Chicago and the Dbacks which wouldn't make any sense so maybe my dreams telling me we have no competition, or he is considering us with 1 other suitor haha. More likely I just have stupid dreams
  19. I guess my fall back option would be Austin Jackson. I'm not giving up a pick for Dexter Fowler... unless he is top notch defender but at the plate he isn't much different than Austin Jackson (over the careers). They slash at Jackson .273/.333/.399 .732 Fowler .267/.363/.418 .781 Career averages are both similar for power number Jackson 32 Doubles 9 Triples 10 HR 20 SB Fowler 29 Doubles 11 Triples 11 HR 20 SB No idea on the fielder aspect, and to me I would expect Fowler to have better power numbers playing Colorado for 6 years. Jackson prior to the trade last year was still slashing .272/.312/.387 .699 OPS. For the price difference plus surrendering a pick I'm not sure that marginal offensive stats are worth it. Granted I am just looking at stats here and no clue how to rate defense. Also throw in Jackson outside his terrible 30 games in the NL has played in the AL his whole career.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) raBBit are you hearing anything http://twitter.com/chisoxrabbit There
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 08:59 PM) Ian Kennedy, Latos, Fister, Chen (probably too expensive, at one point Boras was aiming for $100 million) and Y.Gallardo are probably the top five remaining pitchers on the market. Except for Fister, all of them should be in the $12-16 million range. Latos might be on the lower end as well. Chen the upper end and probably unaffordable/Boras Factor. But you have to look at JA Happ's contract and think anything is possible with pitching contracts STILL, as well as Leake's deal with the Cardinals. These aren't dominating or frontline starters by any stretch of the imagination. I would love Chen but as you pointed out he well Boras is over pricing him. I believe Kennedy would cost a pick so I 'd pass on him. Not sure on Gallardo but if he doesn't cost a pick I'd have him top of my list.
  22. If we don't end up with 1 of the big 3 it will be some what depressing for as much as we were linked to them since the winter meetings. Who are the tier 2 and 3 pitchers available now?
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 12:27 AM) You can make an argument for Gordon or Upton going shorter because of the horrific FA market next year and their injuries (Gordon) or inconsistency (Upton). For a player in the prime of his career, you're not hearing about many teams aggressively pursuing Upton, at least not in the press. Could be a smokescreen. That said, you could imagine Gordon coming off an injury-filled year betting on himself bouncing back and signing a shorter deal for one year. On the other hand, Cespedes is never going to have a better season and age 30 is the perfect time to strike. Still, there are at least 9-12 teams who would love one of those four. They should've taken their QOs then. I don't see many teams lining up to give them 1 year deals and giving up a pick in the process. That said it only takes 1 to make it happen.
  24. I would love Edwin Jackson back. If I remember correctly his numbers were pretty good here in his short service with us. I've always been a fan of him.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) Did they start putting steroids in Big Macs? There is a Mark McGwire joke in there somewhere
