This was discussed on the radio yesterday afternoon. Last year there were something like eight 34-year old players in the ENTIRE league that had over 550 PA's. Now that we're out of the steroid era it's pretty much in the single digits every year (compound that with the fact that rosters are getting younger). As a player, to assume you're going to make 550 PA's in your mid thirties (even without team manipulation) is a fools bet.

TWO THINGS: - To those SoxTalk-ers that were adamant that signing Manny was (paraphrasing) "never going to happen" because "this is the White Sox we're talking about" and "what in their history makes you think they'll pull this off" ..... you were right. The rest of us owe you a big apology and you us a big fat I Told You So. - I've never been a member of the Reinsdorf Is A Cheap Bastard club. But after this I'm left with no other conclusion. If the difference ended up being 2 years and $50M, Keith Olberman pretty much summed it up:

Here's a possibility I haven't heard anyone mention: what if Moncada playing 3B is so that they can offer Manny SS as a final enticement? (What would happen to TA? I have no idea.) And, NO, I'm not saying I like that idea but we are in White Sox bizarro world now, so who knows.

Or it would be interesting to hear Justin Morneau's take on when AJ ..... yes ... ran inside the line down to first and took a shot at Morneau's heel. (hmmm, sounds familiar) I enjoyed AJ when he was on the Sox but truth is he was a punk. A lot of revisionist history there.

If J. Michael Robertson turns out to be total BS (99% certainty) I’ll still give the guy props. He says it’s a burner account, has people throwing out conspiracies that it’s a Reinsdorf, and his three follows are the Sox, Bulls, and Stadium. Most well thought out troll job I’ve ever seen, but I gotta admit, it would be epic if it turned out to actually be Jerry. Part of me actually hopes it is.
