  1. I suck at geography. Maybe not suck, but not as strong as I wish. Last night I took the big game on an Explorer question. History is very strong for me. Took all time high score for an NTN science fiction game tonight. I figured outa straegy: if I had noi clue (and I had none of 13 of 15 questions) I selected 4 and as the clues were given, if 4 was eliminated, worked up the gameplayer to 3 or 2, the closest possible answer still in play. Started slow and romped to the finish to all time high score. Sometimes it is how to play more important than what we know.
  2. that's why some of us older Sox fans don't get as worked up about JR as some younger folks. Veeck - Traitor Veeck - traded away Battey and other future stars for old players and CASH to operate the club. He sold us out year in year out. So many young stars he sold away for money to pay the light bills. Battey would have been one of the greatest catchers we ever had.
  3. no one beats me in head to head trivia games - I don't do well on internet quizes, was always lucky to get 1 or 2 in Wilbur's mlb archana quizes - but make it head to head, me against a person or group, all in the same room - and I conquer all. if I could make money of this, I'd be rich. Instead, people just get pissed at me in bars. Damn asshole always wins. Why not let someone else win, the jerk. ] Hey, not my job to lose dude. Instead of whining, answer the questions right for a change. And then I kick ass.
  4. not my job to make it easy! actually on the NTN game tonight Red Heat was a clue for something else and that made me remember it and work on it for our use - the last two nights, two sets of teams have combined to beat me at NTN trivial, ganging up on me, and over the course of two nights, 24 games, the results on the NTN games: final score, CWSOX 24, teams trying to beat me 0. Ho hum.
  5. you had it first and I missed you post, again sorry, but we celebrate your first one to call it!
  6. the person playing then and now is nancy faust check the film release date - was summer 1986 or 1987 - the filming took place the summer before, in Augsut - if Ozzie was with us then, then he wuld be the other connection still present. But since he is not playing, the answer is Nancy, playing then and now in Comiskey.
  7. see my just posted post about how right you are - he watched the game in the bar with Belushi at OHare
  8. very sorry if I missed you calling it first. very sorry.
  9. team we played was _D_E __T __R __O __I __T __T __I __G __E __R __S __ (2 words) maybe I had an extra space, sorry - I thought I had counted better The game footage was used in the movie as the chase scene, noted already multiple times, did not work. At the end of the movie, Belushi and Schwarzenegger are having a drink in a bar at O'Hare as Arn-nuld prepares to fly back to Russia, and on the bar tv is - the tigers game, with a close up of the fans sitting by Nancy's organ booth - my kids and me - which means I have been in a Schwarzenegger movie! I will have a booth at soxfest and charge only $5 for my autograph! this trivia session is finished. (Sox won by the way, and Nancy as a favor to me - we are long time friends - played Hail! to the Victors Valiant between an inning
  10. someone buy a letter, come on - team we played was __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ (2 words) Comiskey footage shown in movie: _________________________________
  11. Red referred to commies that arnold thought he and belushi would find at Comiskey. Maybe that is why the chase scene didn't work....
  12. name of movie: Red Heat starred: Jim Belushi with the Gov team we played was __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ (2 words) Comiskey footage shown in movie: _________________________________ all the damn hints you get, I just made it easy
  13. name of movie: Red Heat starred: __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ with the Gov team we played was __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Comiskey footage shown in movie: _________________________________ all the damn hints you get, I just made it easy
  14. Not Raw Deal. However, the name Raw Deal has a parallel with the name of the movie in question.
  15. name of movie: __ __ __ __ __ __ __ starred: __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ with the Gov team we played was __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Comiskey footage shown in movie: _________________________________ all the damn hints you get, I just made it easy
  16. not Last Action Figure (which is a movie about Frank's range at 1st base)
  17. was the governor of California in that? however someone in Blue Brothers is connected in some way to Arrrrr-nauld's costar of this mystery movie
  18. want hints? if it was filmed at Comiskey it was of course filmed in Chicago - thus it is possible that (an) actor(s) associated with Chicago might be cast in the film if I am going to give hints, then I add a question: how did the Comiskey footage show up in the movie given they didn't use the chase scene? need name of movie need name of team we played need how footage was used
  19. true, I simply said the person was playing at Comiskey then and still are and that would be Nancy - we sat by her booth and got her autographed cards that day (actually she and I are connected in a few ways, we usually have a nice conversation). Still need name of movie and name of team we played. The day we were filmed was a day game, and I recall it was a Wednesday but on that I could be wrong.
  20. if I have said anything to offend you, I apologise. That was not the intent. If any attempts at light-hearted humor with someone whom I think well of did not convey itself, I am embarrassed and apologetic. Journalism was on my mind today as I spent a lot of the day with four area editors. Again, I am sorry that you have understood anything I said as something other than the light banter that I meant. (Which is not to say that I don't think you were wrong in your comments on a 100 yar old rivaly or assuming what my perspective on Ozzie is. But it didn't get expressed well and I feel badly for that.)
  21. time span is someone then playing at Comiskey still plays at Comiskey. I remember the game well - I took my kids because we knew the filming was taking place that day and we wanted to be in a crowd scene. Other filming had been done the days before and after with an empty park. We also went on opening day of the movie. We were surprised that so little Comiskey footage was used - what was used was in a very clever way - but when it was, damn if we didn't spot ourselves in a game crowd scene! I knew I had picked the right seats - right by the one still playing at Comiskey. My kids still have the autographed cards they got that day. Time frame - I took my kids to that game. I take my grandson to the games now. Do the math.
  22. a future journalist should know there are more perspectives than A or B. It is not like Ozzie or if you don't it means one was unwilling to let go of JM. I was ready for JM to go at the end. I am not thrilled at all with Ozzie's hire because it was a cheap choice of someone who I see has no potential at all. It is not a matter of being unable to say goodby to JM. That is an example of another perspective. Had we hired Eddie Murray, for example, I'd be very optimistic. There are a lot more perspectives on anything that black or white.
  23. I was hoping someone else would have posted something before me - and I tried to write something and didn't do a good as job as what I am linking - the link comes from WSI and with apologies to Daver for borrowing but with appreciation to our friends (and not rivals) at WSI for having this: Earl Battey remembered - WSI article
