  1. From today's Arlington Heights Daily Herald: "...Thome just might help the White Sox retain Konerko, the most attractive free agent on the market. Konerko ofter has talked about his admiration for Thome...Thome feels the same way about Konerko, and he already has offered to fly to Arizona to personally push for Konerko to return to the Sox."
  2. According to today's Boston Globe, this trade has been expanded. It now includes Mota going to the Bosox, and a kid pitcher named Garcia going to Florida. I was wondering why the Carmines were ignoring their bullpen, which was more of a weakness than their starters, imo.
  3. What would be really funny is that somehow everyone else thinks a match is over, but only AJ realizes that the referee didn't make the 3 count, he sneaks in and pins a guy. Which by the way isn't exactly unheard of in professional wrestling.
  4. KW will try to put together a combo platter involving Marte. He probably still has a little market value left.
  5. This is Mrs. Al Lopez's Ghost and the shopper of the family. Hallmark has a nice baseball World Series ornament. www.mlb.com has several very nice ones that I'm sure your Mom would love.
  6. Bill James has long ago stated that Minoso belongs in the Hall. In his book the Politics of Glory, he wrote "What many people don't recognize about Minoso is that although he has substantial HOF credentials as is , he is missing probably his best years due to his race. His career inside organized ball started late in 1948; he was already 25. James went on to write "If Minoso had been white, he might well have gotten started early enough to have 3000 hits." Some by now view Minnie as sort of a joke....played all those once a decade games, but Minnie is truly a deserving candidate for the Hall, and has always comported himself with dignity. I hope he makes it.
  7. I posted this in the White Sox Weekly thread, but I thought it probably should have gone here. Ed Farmer during the show yesterday said he had heard from a friend that Gload was gonna sign with the Padres. Now, I won't miss him, but somebody's gotta play first for us.
  8. There was one bit of a rumor during the show yesterday and it came from Ed Farmer. He said he heard from a friend of his that Ross Gload was gonna sign with the Padres. FWIW.
  9. I voted for Tropicana because it looks terrible even on TV.
  10. Here's the link to the Chicago Tribune article. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...ack=1&cset=true
  11. Pods is a poor centerfielder, at least when we're used to Rowand. Pods gets poor jumps. Of course this is the franchise that tried Carl Everett is CF a while back.... I think you have to put Anderson in CF if Aaron is moved.
  12. From Mrs. Al Lopez's Ghost Try www.fansedge.com. They have 18 oz Wheaties Display Cases with White Sox Logo for $51.99. There are some plain ones for $32.00. If you decide to order this model, I'd call their customer service number first. You wouldn't want it to come with a Packer logo, which is what is shown! Happy Shopping! I'm going broke shopping for Al for Christmas this year.
  13. Got mine at Jewel yesterday. In my wildest dreams I never thought I'd see the day when a Sox player was on a Wheaties box.
  14. I got it at Barnes and Noble bookstore for $34, so the Jewel price seems real good. Game is too cool. You get a chance card that says "You hit a game winning homer in the World Series. Advance to Posednik Avenue!" Konerko was Boardwalk and Buerhle was Park Place. Had to buy it right there.
  15. Me and Mrs. L splurged - "won" an Ebay auction, so we'll be in 158 Sunday. Probably will freeze our asses off, but I'm hoping we end the night up by two games. Could even be the last home game of the year. Gotta calm down, I know.
  16. In 1985 De Young wrote a song called "Run Sox Run." Have you heard the news? History is in the making. Red hots roof shots and the greatest team in town. People gather round, waiting for the celebration. Buy me a program, get me a beer. White Sox fever is here. Everyone stand and cheer for 75 great years. Sox are gonna run, run Sox run. If there were more verses, I can't think of them offhand. The song rocked, though.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 06:12 AM) Wouldn't it be Garland, Contreras, Buehrle and Freddy? Except that Buerhle has been better at the Cell than on the road.
  18. Ozzie was quoted in the Arlington Heights Daily Herald this morning, saying he's leaning to starting Jon Garland on Tuesday if we win Friday. I would guess that would make the rotation for that series as Garland, Buerhle, Contreras and Freddie. Two questions: 1. Is that how you would do it? 2. Did you ever in your wildest dreams think we would face a decision like this?
  19. I'd just like to hope the following individuals enjoy the playoffs. Jason Schmidt. Eric Chavez. Dmitri Young. A.J. Burnett. The Devil Rays GM Chuck Lamar. Ken Griffey. Wes Helms. And every other player we spent so much time discussing prior to the trade deadlines. Jay Mariotti, of course. And as always, every Cub fan in the world.
  20. I felt the same way. Pablo, even Widger or Brian Anderson. Likely they would've walked the guy to load the bases and brought in a righty to face Paulie. Whatever scenario developed, it was a better bet than AJ against a lefty. Just a bad decision by Ozzie.
  21. From today's SunTimes, page 129. "E.T. There's something about capturing the innocence of children, and this movie did that. I cried my way all the way through it."
  22. We STILL have the best record in the American League, and we have a 3 game lead in the wild card race. Boston and NY face each other 3 more times. I still think we are playoff bound. BTW, Toronto has 7 games left against Boston and NY, so go Jays. And yes, I would settle for a wild card berth. Pennant races are hard, but it's a long season, and you gotta trust it.
  23. If something happens big, I'll post it. Maybe an announcer announcement? He said absolutely nothing worth repeating.
  24. your own marketing department gets the schedule wrong. There's a quarter-page ad in today's Sun Times that shows the Sox schedule next week as 4 agains the Indians and 3 against the Twins.
