I was unable to watch this weekend, did Benetti actually say or do something try to get back at his former employer?
Yes, he said your Detroit Tigers have swept the Chicago White Sox to open the 2024 Major League Season.

Just the Campfire Shake posing ... a not so subtle shot at Boyer and JR for criticizing how Jason would "messily/unculturedly" eat Sox concession items he was asked to hawk on air.
The Detroit TV staff delivered Jason a Beggars Pizza during their segment after the Sox gave Jason a video tribute in between innings.
Len and DJ were pimping that silly shake today. I believe 98% of fans can’t even buy it since it’s only available in the Stadium Club.
Jason also covered the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The attendance is going to shrink so quickly as the losses mount.
They have sold a lot less tickets for 2024 vs. 2023, and a lot less in 2023 vs. 2022. They will sell less in 2025 vs. 2024 unless an unexpected turnaround occurs.
Will see a lot of tickets either given away like the CPS promotion, or the very cheap tickets they offered last year and during tanking and Pepsi Can B1G1 seasons. I also expect the pay $x9 dollars to attend any/all games within a month promotion we’ve seen in the past from them and other teams.
There are not many season ticket holders beyond direct marketing partners or non sponsor corporate tickets used to entertain clients. They already trashed the stub hub value of tickets for all but a handful of games each year for the past 15 seasons.

The larger sample size shows me that neither Sheets or Sosa would be very fun to watch. Have either of them ever even caught fire in the majors? Maybe Sheets in his rookie year.
If Colas, Lee, Sosa and Fletcher play regularly and aren’t MLB level contributors, which may very well be the case for some or most, then you move on with a clear conscience.
If Grossman, Pillar, Philips, Ortega, Payton, DeJong, Lopez, Stassi and Maldonado play regularly and aren’t MLB level contributors, they will just come back with the next batch of the same type of mid 30s no longer an MLB calibur player beyond calling up Montgomery at some point for the left side, maybe Ramos, to burn their clocks with zero chance at competitiveness, and mismanagement and toxicity if Pedro or Tony La Russa are in the dugout.

How long until LaRussa's title is changed to interim manager?
He is more dangerous now if he is the de facto Kenny Williams since August 23, 2023 after pulling off the coup d’etat.

- Tony would replace Grifol
- Jerry’s son is taking over when he passes

Fletcher, Maldonado, Pillar, Grossman, Chavez, others have Tony’s fingerprints all over them.

He's going to be the Doug Collins of baseball.
Doug was abruptly shitcanned for "allegedly" for affair (on his end as he was married) relationship, IIRC with Jerry's daughter Susan.
He wasn't fired for that A to B to C nonsense sold to the public. "No explanation".
QuoteHowever, speculation grew that Collins’ release was due primarily to matters unrelated to basketball

Usually during a losing streak, you can assume a team will come out of it somehow. But I don't see this offense doing much of anything this year. Besides Robert, and maybe Vaughn on a good day, there is nothing in this lineup. We will see many more boring games like this one. And, of course, many losing ones.
I could see Robert the only .800 + OPS, perhaps one or two of the three (Eloy, Moncada, Vaughn) cracking .760, and then a couple guys maybe hitting .720 + (Colas, Grossman and/or Sheets). Everyone else is a reserve or AAA player on even a .500 team.
If they were smart, this would be managed as a complete and utter teardown, but see them continuing to pretend and perhaps delude even themselves about the fact the farm system might not be bottom 5 anymore, but the organization as a whole certainly is when looking at talent in their 20s.

I think the Pillar contract proves that Getz is going to the biggest Yes Man we've ever seen on the South Side, which was probably part of the "we need to hire Chris so badly we're not even going to entertain the Selig rule" pact.
Thinking Getz runs things through Tony to get the yea or nay, or both go to Jerry for his call.
Also thinking the current online org chart is a typo, as Kenny was EVP when Tony reported up through him (or more likely around direct / dotted line to Jerry).
Senior Executive Vice President Howard Pizer Senior Vice President/General Manager Chris Getz Special Advisor to the Executive Vice President Tony La Russa -
It will be for an interim Montoyo or permanent La Russa, because Jerry isn't going to pay a for two managers (Pedro and new external hire), four FO guys (Tony/Getz plus Kenny/Hahn) and Leury. Still has ten $1.5M payments due to Hendriks, with the first Liam Day this July 1st.

I absolutely cannot believe people thought this team would be better than last year.
Until 2024 rung in, thought Getz would bring in a few good players and flip Cease for a couple prospects and a decent AAA starter plus reliever to plug in now.
After the Maldonado and Mena calls, really lost confidence. The haul for Cease was fine, but definitely won't help 2024. Think Bannister and a few others can help players develop / adjust, but the dearth of talent seems as though 2027 could be the earliest to expect .500.
Can see Jerry nuking payroll like he did the last half decade at Comiskey Park (1986-1990), perhaps a $60M-$80M payroll per year until 2029.

Gameday listed Eloy's injury as an injured chest. That's pretty odd.

Never was. That is why he got the job. Told Jerry what he wanted to hear, including his acceptable salary.

TA with a 485 OPS he’s cooked.
I'd give up Maldonado for him, close to a wash in terms of salary.
Meanwhile, the Tigers take the lead.

Anyone else hoping for loss records? Let's set every possible franchise, AL, and MLB record for losses. To start a season, consecutive, total. If we're going to lose let's be the absolute best at losing.
The only two records that matter are Sox going 75-87 or worse to sink Jerry's All Time Record under .500, and 49-113 for Jerry to sink the all time White Sox Won Loss record below .500.

I predict Sheets gets the DH at bats and they bring up someone like Mendick. They want Colas to be left where he is.
Short term or permanent?
Think he would have a better approach and focus this time. Not necessarily concerned with helping the ML club vs. trying to get something out of Colas long term.
I really would like to see him up before Memorial Day if he is playing well and doing what is asked for him in terms of practice or following their regimen.
