I really don’t like the baby lettering on these New Jerseys, guess I won’t be getting a Maldonado authentic afterall
They really should just shorten it to Mal

Sox best chance next inning with Pillar, Maldonado and Lopez due up is to bunt down the first base line and try to barrel over their pitchers.
Meanwhile, 0-2 HBPs hurt.

Vaughn called out on a pitch clock violation after falling a ball off his hands. This after that last pathetic umpiring at bat he had to face with the one legitimate strike strikeout.

I love me some Deivi!
I'd like to see him get a chance at the rotation either later this year, or work up to it so he can join in 2025. Last year was his first as a reliever.

I do like the pace of this game, all games should ideally be 1:50-2:20.

Grifol going to have Crochet throw 100 pitches right out the gate
He can throw 100 more of the same quality, and it isn't going to overcome this deficit.

Are there even 30,000 in person today?

I hope Ohtani bet the under in this game.

Been enjoying the radio (and dual radio/TV with Harry/Jimmy) since 1977. Always the better announcing crew.

Can't imagine Jerry doing this.

I'd probably let him go another inning.
He went 81 his last ST start, should be his target plus each outing.

Luis, Eloy isn't in LF anymore you can let Benintendi get that
Can he? Not sure Benintendi is any better than Eloy out there, just less dumb.

DFA by June
Can't see listening, but others have written he was having trouble catching Crochet in ST starts.
Think everyone involved in that decision (Getz, Pedro, Tony) needs to explain what the thought process was, because I haven't heard a single person on Earth say that was a good signing, especially after the Max Stassi trade.

Welp I guess this is the same swing at every pitch offense we saw last year. Maybe the vaunted bottom 5 will change the game.
Eloy's third out. Yes, you're likely either fouling or popping out with that location

Let’s pick him the hell up please. Sure, he may amount to nothing but what is the risk? Beggars shouldn’t be choosy.
Couldn’t they just cut Jesse Scholtens (torn UCL) from the 40-man roster and claim Smith-Njigba?
Players on the MLB 60 Day IL don't count against the 40 man roster.

Maybe not. @WestEddy made a good point that Grossman’s defense is Sheets-like in RF, but I guess that hasn’t stopped them from starting Sheets in RF. However, they will still need Pillar to back up CF. Ideally, Grossman tears it up at AAA and they can somehow fit both Pillar and Grossman on the roster. It’s too bad no one else can back up 1B because Sheets is the guy who should be in AAA. Grossman and Pillar are old and may be done but they have both hit lefties fairly well in their careers and it could make some sense if they are in LF and RF respectively against left-handed starters, with Robert in CF, Eloy at DH, and Benintendi on the bench.
They really shouldn't go down a platoon route beyond protecting Fletcher's confidence, since it doesn't appear he has any chance vs. LHP, and may not have much vs. RHP over extended MLB at bats.
There is really no room for Grossman, Pillar and Sheets. Of the three, I rather have Pillar, primarily because he can cover CF. Grossman really only makes sense if they have little confidence in Fletcher to allow him to play everyday in AAA. Still rather see Colas play regularly here, not sure if he will ever be given another chance by Getz and Grifol.

However, I am also not a fan of what Getz apparently values in position players so far. It reminds me too much of Kenny and his love for “grinders” over talent. For this team to ever be in competition again, it needs good players with more than just leadership and defensive skills.
See this as more of "I need to cut $55M from payroll this year and field 26 players" type of roster construction, but they will need to acquire/develop talent if they are to be competitive in the future.
The Sox will need to DFA or 60 Day IL 1 or 2 more players in April. One for certain if they will promote Nastrini to the rotation and 40 man as expected.
The second if they plan to bring Grossman up. At this point Fletcher or Pillar can go to Charlotte to accommodate Grossman. Sheets is redundant as well, but he was giving out hot dogs yesterday, so think he is staying up as he has been since 2022.
Sox will be good if Getz and or Grifol don't cling to these veterans they brought in, but merely have them here as placeholders for better options.

Is it really transformed if its just as shitty as before, only with different names and faces?
I see this as more of a long term project given the lack of depth of talent in the entire organization.
Beyond continued development and acquisition of prospects over the next few years, the keys will be whether Getz will be effective in reshaping the organization including player development, and whether Jerry will spend any money or just go into bottom of the league payroll mode like he did from 1986 until the end of the old park. He didn't lift payroll much even with record attendance the first two years of the park, but did raise it in time for 1993, so several years after he started demanding a new stadium.
