I think this team could break the record of 15 consecutive losses. I think they have the offense and bullpen, two key ingredients, to make that happen. I am worried about Cease tossing a shut out in a 1-0 win.

If not in this run at some point this season that is a distinct possibility.

Can you blame Tony for last year and not blame Pedro for this?

The bigger blame goes to whoever assembled this squad, and we all know who that is. Pedro has made an abysmal start but with the squad he has been given and the fixtures he has had so far, he was on to a loser anyway.

I honestly think some guys really don't want to be here but circumstances put them in that position and it shows. Also this organization has basically had a culture of losing since 2007 (only five winning seasons) players know this stuff and that has to make an impact.

Also there is no real pressure on them to perform as the squad is so weak there is rarely ever anyone challenging them for their position.

Anyone remember the show, “Pimp My Ride”? It later came out that believe it or not the “reality” show was… fake! The cars themselves were not even functional, but they slapped crazy ass things on them to make them “pimped” out.

That’s basically the Sox. Lots of fancy/shiny pieces, but the vehicle itself is a POS. Last year you had an old drunk behind the wheel of this monstrosity and this year you have a 15 year old with his drivers permit who doesn’t know how to drive stick shift.

I would dispute this bit, even the fancy/shiny pieces are broken or clapped out parts!

I struggle with the notion in the first video that the Sox FO and ownership finds losing a preferable outcome. I get it, because they don’t open the purse strings to $300 million players. But I think it’s worse; the Sox have been trying to win, but have been incompetent in assembling the veteran pieces, some starting pitching, and bullpen to compliment the young core of this roster. They set so much money on fire.

I said this in another thread, this is the really worrying thing, they are actually trying at the moment and are this bad. At least during the tank seasons under Ricky R. you got the sense they were trying to educate them to do the basics right and he would only accept maximum effort, at the moment they can't even do the basics and look disinterested at best, losing doesn't look like it bothers them that much.

If they were smart they’d have TLR on the first flight to Toronto tomorrow to catch the next series as a consultant.  The boys aren’t responding to Pedro, they don’t respect him.

The idea of having someone to mentor Pedro is not terrible, but the idea of getting TLR back is.

How about they do not get swept in any series this season but still play .400 baseball?  We were in every series, this team just needs a little tweaking.

Yeah, but with Hahn doing that tweaking it would only get worse not better.

Jerry should demand a new stadium and real estate holdings (perhaps throw in a Star Wars museum on the Lake) from the new mayor ($4B-$5B plus) that he completely owns with zero or minimal rent or lease payments like his current deal. Get a complete real estate tax exemption as well. They can sell it to the media and masses announcing an historical agreement with Mellody Hobson to purchase the team when he passes, perhaps rebuild a bunch of park baseball diamonds around the city (with Sox Split the Pot Raffle Ticket money) to sweeten the deal. Jerry spends a few pennies on the dollar max ($150M-$200M) to get this through legislatively.

Dump every player over $3M, tank for the next five seasons and give Hahn another chance at a rebuild. Maximize profits, without significantly impacting attendance, 1.4M the likely floor, not much lower than the average under 11 years of Rick Hahn. Give Hahn a seven year contract for Kenny's job and let him promote one of his Michigan cronies.

Best part of the plan is I can see Jerry living another 25-30 plus years and attempting this scam one more time mid century. Perhaps Mama McCaskey will be gone by then.

Why give Hahn another chance? He has had enough chances and produced this steaming turd.

  10. Pedro is only 16 games into his managerial career and whilst he has made some decisions that have turned out wrong it is a bit early to write him off completely.

His potential over-use of starters may say more about his lack of confidence in the bullpen, and when choosing relievers he is pretty limited when so many of them seem to be pitching badly. Maybe he has used Diekman too much but he hardly has any in form alternatives, Bummer is giving away games, Lopez has blown games and Graveman has been equally bad, and they are the 3 'best' relievers we have fit and well.

The offense is looking potentially better than last season but once again injuries are depriving the team of some of its better hitters and the replacements are, with the exception of Burger, pretty poor. We all knew there were holes all over the line up even with a healthy team, but when you remove so many of the round pegs you are bound to end up with square pegs for round holes.

Pedro might turn out to be an below average manager or an above average manager but with this squad the chance of him showing his true abilities are severely limited by the squad Hahn and co have botched together.

  11. New season same old story. The same players getting 'little' injuries that then turn into bigger injuries. It will only be a matter of time before Grandal or Robert pick up an injury. There is no point having 'talent' if it struggles to get on the field, and constantly missing games with minor injuries then affects form and the replacements we have are not up to it due to the poor squad building of Hahn and co.
