Smart teams are always on the look out for younger reclamation projects like Speas (Santos last offseason) or perhaps an older veteran which can provide value contributions at a reasonable or even bargain salary (Cueto and McCann recently, Dye & AJ back in the day).

I’m happy they bring in several or more and perhaps have a few solid successes.

On a side note, I wonder if this particular player was a Dayton Moore suggestion, after he had a chance to see him pitch for Texas. “Hey, grab this guy. I thought we should keep him but was overruled.

I suppose you are right and its not as if they are going to challenge next season anyway, they need healthy bodies to pitch innings. And relievers may be important next year as the starting rotation looks a bit bleak.

Minor league reliever, hasn't started more than a game or two since 2017. TJS in 2018. Pitched 2 big league innings last year with an ERA of 13.5. Walked away from baseball after 2021 for a year for mental health reasons, got some press when he was called up last year.

The Getz 'rebuild'/'retool' starts! Just like Hahn he is searching the bins out back of other stadiums in order to build a team.

The amount of White Sox people who have said they wouldn't be surprised TA bounces back to his highest levels next year has convinced me there is no chance of it happening.

That is all the White Sox are reduced to at the moment, hoping the 'core' will bounce back and picking up a few players who will also be 'looking to bounce back', the result will sadly be all too predictable.

  6. What is the point of "coaching changes" if the head coach/manager who supervised this disaster of a season remains? It's not as though everyone, or anyone, thinks Grifol did a good job and was only held back by poor coaches, it's not as if anyone even thinks he did an average job.

He took a team led last season by a senile drunk to a .500 finish and made it even worse. They looked absolutely clueless most of the time and certainly didn't look like they were trying hard for the manager.

  7. After the game Grifol said of this season it was “Frustrating. Educational. Somewhat embarrassed,” Grifol said. “But hungry and committed to get it right.”

If losing 101 games with a team supposedly in its 'championship window' is only somewhat embarrassing, what on earth would it take for him to be embarrassed enough to resign.

It makes no sense to me at all why Sheets and Andrus continue to get starter playing time. Who cares if Sosa or Rodriguez hit .100 for the remaining handful of games, get them some experience and a good look at them at the MLB level.

It would be handy if we had a manager and coaches who could help them improve but that may be asking too much of Pedro and co.

I believe Pedro knows things have to turn drastically in 2024, and he has little control over what, if anything, they acquire toward that goal.

I don't believe he will be fired in season next year, because Jerry loves money and it's not going to change much. I can see them firing Pedro after season end, like Ricky, with only one more year on his contract rather than have him be a loose cannon lame duck entering 2025 without an extension.

Grifol will be a convenient scapegoat for Getz who has far less at his disposal than Hahn's seemingly endless supply.

Agreed, its not as if they are anywhere near competing in 2024 so why waste a year of a good manager. My only concern is the way that Pedro seems to handle the younger players, not one of the young players who has joined the MLB team this season has been any good, and don't look like they are learning anything, in fact if anything they are getting worse. Added to that they way they are often brought up and sent down many times, and seem to be the only ones he 'holds accountable'.

  10. “These last couple of weeks of the season, I need to spend more time with Pedro, the coaching staff and the players just to learn more about areas that we need to get better,” Getz said.

Learn more about areas we need to get better, that would be pitching, hitting fielding, trading, drafting, player development, have I missed anything?

Anyone else think that they are purposely losing the games at this rate?

This uninspiring bunch couldn’t get motivated enough if a win meant getting whatever they wanted sexually!

It is difficult to tell if they are doing this on purpose as they have been doing this all season.

  12. With the statements in JR's interview I think it is fair to say that any GM would struggle let alone an inexperienced over promoted one. Getz may be better than Hahn or he may be worse, but until JR is no longer owner whoever is trying to GM will have one or even both hands tied behind his back.

    • Moncada may be finally healthy, and is hitting much better than at any time since before he was first injured in mid April (.889 OPS vs. .753 in August).
    • Eloy has only missed 4 consecutive games twice since June, though he like most White Sox need to perform significantly better.
    • Benintendi finally has hit a few home runs, and may possibly hit 10 or more in future seasons, making the best out of a bad situation.
    • Gregory Santos and Jesse Scholtens have outperformed expectations entering the season, and may be valuable contributors on future teams.
    • Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn are gone.
    • There is a chance Tony La Russa and or Dayton Moore will not serve the White Sox in an official capacity, Tony after his initial contract expires in October.
    • Everyday we are another day closer to having a new owner of the Chicago White Sox.

I did nearly include Moncada in the list as he seems good at the moment, but it very much depends if his back problems are actually sorted or just temporarily less of an issue. His contract aside, having a fit and healthy Moncada next season playing like this will be very useful.

Eloy's fitness will always be an issue but he has been better this season.

Needs at least thirty more games and that has been a mirage in numerous past seasons where Sept success didn't becomes a springboard to future April competitive at bats.

But at least he doesn't look completely lost like he did when called up before.

  15. Amidst all the doom and gloom of a disaster season and the depressing search for a new GM I just thought I would look for any positives I could find.

    • Luis Robert- not much really needs saying here, he is the best player on the team, can he still improve?
    • Lenyn Sosa- are we finally seeing what he could do at MLB level? Or is he just having a good spell when the pressure is off at the end of the season?

Apart from that I can't really see many positives about the MLB team, but any positives anyone has from the minors or any I have missed?

Yup, Hahn’s media campaign is out in full force.  Dude accomplished nothing in 11 years, but somehow he was the victim of a messy leadership trio for his entire tenure.  Not sure why people are buying it.

Funny I don't foresee any other club falling overthemselves to apoint him GM.
