Standard bonus contracts include provisions (or funds) to pay for college if the player doesn't make it. For instance, if they sign him for $600k they would likely add another $50k into a fund to pay for school. Sometimes the amount of that fund can slow or even halt negotiations. In the case of wanting to go to Vandy, you are likely looking at an additional $75k at least. Who knows how much Vandy will cost 5 or 6 years from now? Isn't it close to $20k a year now? Try over 30K

You started it with your little "i have no idea... yada yada yada" comment, not me.

Yea, I believe they'll eventually sign, just gotta get the figures where they want them.

Besides 2000, when in the past 5 or 6 season has Frank been a franchise player? I'll give you the mid 90's when he won two MVP's, but the past 4 seasons, Mags has been the franchise player, not Frank. Ummm... "franchise player" means that they have played for the same franchise all their career. So, what the hell are you talking about? The way I define it is the person you build your team around and it hasn't been Frank for about five years now. By your definition, A-Rod couldn't be a franchise player since he hasn't played for the same franchise his whole career. Nonetheless, A-Rod is a franchise player and your definition is clearly wrong. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Jason, check out this kid Sowers and his stats in the SEC this past year as a soph. He's from around my area, that's why I take exception to him. From Vanderbilt's site: One of the top pitchers in the Southeastern Conference as a sophomore, Sowers ended the regular season leading the league in strikeouts while tying for first in earned run average and innings pitched. He ended the season by setting the Commodore single-season school record for innings pitched (115.0) while ranking second with 123 strikeouts and ninth with a 2.50 ERA. Sowers, native of Louisville, Ky., won his last seven regular-season decisions and recorded a 7-0 mark and 2.11 ERA over his last nine regular-season starts with 57 strikeouts and 12 walks in 55 and a third innings pitched. He struck out 10 or more batters five times during the year and fanned 12 against nationally ranked foes Kansas (3/2) and Auburn (4/25). He was named SEC Pitcher of the Week (Week 10) on April 8 after he struck out 11 and allowed only five hits, an earned run and a walk in seven innings against nationally ranked Florida.

Good point, but then again, other teams know that Loaiza might not have another season like this and I doubt you're going to get a whole lot for him. Sure, you may get a pretty damn good prospect, but I'd like to have about 2 major league ready players for him at the rate he is going this season.

While Vandy hasn't been very good in the past, they do have a stud SP named Jeremy Sowers who was a first round pick by the Reds in 2002 and dominated the SEC this past season. I think Vandy had a decent season this year and could improve next season with this stud around. Plus, it's a great school for academics and maybe the kid is interested in getting an education. Sox should think about Sowers when he is available to be drafted again, this kid is flat out nasty.

I hope the Scrubs get Beltre instead of Lowell, because Beltre is an overhyped, average player at best. If I were the cubs and could get Beltre cheap, I'd rather do that simply because a change of scenery will do him good. Plus, I think the Marlins are asking for way too much. Last I heard they were talking about getting three of the Cubs top top prospects and in their system thats like 3 #1 ranked prospects. I agree, Marlins are trying to get way too much for Lowell. Sure, he is a good player, but will he ever have another season like this? The simple answer: No.

No and No. Frank hasn't been "the Franchise" and Konerko has been above average the past few seasons.

In a brawl, usually only a few (if any) punches are landed. If Frank came at him, there's no way Frank gets any shots in before it's broken up. Farnsy, on the other hand, could land a few haymakers on mostly anyone he wanted to. Another guy I think could really knock a few out is Adam Dunn. Silva of the Phillies is lucky he got tripped on the way out the other day and was able to get some cheap shots in or Dunn would have nailed his ass.

I hate to say it, but I don't think Frank would want any part of Farnsworth. He's a lot quicker than Frank and he's only about 2 inches shorter and was a football player as well. After seeing the way he handled things yesterday (I was at the game), I don't think many people want a piece of Farnsy.

Talk about class, you've definitely got it.

I thought it was a good article as well and it will be even better if we can take care of business this weekend.

We have Skyline here in Louisville and strip clubs as well.... Have been to both in Louisville. LOL I spent 3 months there several years ago. Is Butchertown Pub still alive? I believe so, but I never go there. How old are you? 21 and I just turned a few months back So where does the young crowd go now? Phoenix Hill? Have a Nice Day, Bar of Louisville, Atmosphere, Molly Malone's, O'Shea's, Main St Lounge to name a few. Phoenix Hill is also pretty big, but I usually don't go there either. O'Malley's is open too, but it's pretty trashy IMO.

First time at the park and it's a great stadium. Sat in the outfield, front row in right center. Anyone who can make it there should definitely go, it was worth the two hour drive just to check it out. Besides the fight which was highly entertaining, I was told to turn my "Cubs Suck" shirt inside out or leave the stadium. I found this to be a bit ridiculous, but being the good citizen I am, I turned the shirt inside out. :fyou :fyou :fyou From my point of view, which wasn't very close by the way, Farnsworth did what he should have done. The pitch wasn't intentional and Paul Wilson picked the wrong guy to mess with. All in all, a great day of baseball and the Cubs lost, which was even better. Looking forward to this weekend and a few White Sox winners.
