QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 10, 2005 -> 07:39 AM) I like Coke a lot more than Pepsi, but curiously like Diet Pepsi much more than Diet Coke. I feel better now for having confided in someone about that. I'm the same way. But for me, Caffiene Free Diet Pepsi. But if you want to talk about the gods of soda (pop...whatever) world, Cherry Coke is the s***.

That's cool. Anybody know if they still have any of the wild animals at their place? Or did they clear them all out after the accident?

Director, no doubt about it. Look at Lucio Fulci for an example. His movies make no sense whatsoever, but damn are they cool to look at! Dario Argento is also a master at making a movie look ultra-cool. The most important parts are easily the writer, director, and cinematographer. Acting is important, but you don't always need a perfect actor. It also depends on what genre you are into and what type of fan you are. In the Horror genre, with the exception of a few actors (Karloff, Lugosi, Chaney (Sr. and Jr.) Lee, Cushing, Price, Stevens), the true stars of the genre are the directors. George Romero, James Whales, Tod Browning, Dario Argento, Mario Bava, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Lucio Fulci, Michelle Soavi, Roger Corman, Jess Franco, Jean Rollin, these are the people that are drooled over and held at high esteem. The funny thing is that back in the day though, the producer was also VERY instrumental in the look and feel of a film. Val Lewton is even getting his own boxset soon, and every single Lewton produced film feels VERY similar and has many of the same styles. The Lewton films are some of my favorite movies ever, and the man never directed any of them, but somehow you know a Lewton film when you see one.

I missed this thread yesterday. I was on my way to work when the first plane hit, and they were talking about it on the radio, confused if it was a private plane or a jet. Got to work and the boss said it was a jet. The second plane then hit, and my first words were "my God, it's a terrorist attack". Our office at the time was a part of the owners house. We worked out of the big house, he lived in the "mother-in-law" apartment he built. We all left work and went next door to watch what was happening. He told us at that point he didn't think work mattered that day. Then the first building fell. I walked next door to where two people were working, told them the building had fallen. They asked what I meant. I told them "it...just fell and collapsed". They ran next door, I sat down on the stairs for a little while. Then a little later, I went back, and then we saw the second building fall. My boss then stood up, said "That's it, everything has changed, you guys get out of here, go get your familes and spend the rest of the day with the ones you love, please, go home". And we did. My daughter was at a Kindercare at the time. Nobody was really on the roads, and the skies were eerily silent. When I got to the Kindercare all of the kids were asleep. The world at the time was being destroyed by hate and misunderstanding, and here I was standing amongst 20 kids, all sleeping because they had spent the morning playing, while their teachers tried getting glimpses of what a nightmare the world was, and tried to hold it together themselves. Seeing all of those kids laying there was probably the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It actually brought a smile to my face to see someplace so safe, so innocent, so peaceful. I got my daughter, who was actually awake and sat up as soon as I got to her. We went home, I put the news on and watched it in and amongst keeping her head out of it all. The next week was the same surreal week we all lived. But on Friday we went out to dinner with some neighbors. The restaurant, normally a pretty noisey place, was actually very subdued, with everybody watching, glued, to the TV sets on the walls. I guess I now forget how long it took for everything to unfold. One week was a LONG time with all of that going on, and for some reason now it seems an even longer time. p.s. Anybody remember how creepy Halloween was that year? Fear of activities during the trick or treating? How few kids were out trick or treating. How few people were handing out treats?

The only one I really liked was Resevoir Dogs. None of the others do anything for me. Don't know why, they just don't.

Darby Crash from The Germs had the best suicide note ever. Above his head he taped a sign to the wall that read "Here Lies Darby Crash" with an arrow pointing down to himself! LOL!!! If you are going on your own, I guess it pays to be creative.

It just kind of vanished. But all is O.K., I found it.

I've never used corn tortillas due to being told that they fall apart too easy and that the flour are the way to go. So you're telling me I've been mislead???

Nice picture of Kerry!!! I had no idea he had Downs. ...now where did I put that ticket to hell???

I gave it the "who cares". If it is on the closed caption channel, or the SAP, then I will never notice it being there except for a little blurb in the beginning of the show. Couple that with the fact that I don't watch any of those shows, or much TV at all anyways, and I really don't give a rats ass. Now then, the second I turn on ABC and am treated to some of that wacky s*** that I see on Telemundo (big breasted hot chicks aside ), THEN I will have a problem. I think. BUT, if you start running old Santo movies during prime time TV, I'm all over that one!!! Santo ROCKS!!!

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) I can agree about the subjectivity of it. Regarding interracial marriages: I see it differently. Different races were seen as less valueable human lives, which is always an immoral viewpoint. Basing marriage on that is clearly wrong. However, nobody sees gays as less then human, at least not right thinking people. Also, having a child and raising it under a male and female influence is possible with mixed couples; not with same-sex couples. I appreciate your point, but I just don't think the premises here are the same. SFF It wasn't the "right thinking people" that thought interracial marriages were wrong either. Do you really think many people in this world don't look down on the gay population? Ever hear the phrase "gay bashing"? It's both a verbal and physical abuse.

It's like Basketball for the drunk and out of shape portion of America.

For a great starter into silent films you should really check out The Wind starring Lillian Gish. Yeah, I'm a Gish fanatic, but that movie has worked for people who have never liked silent films. It was towards the end of the silent film era (1928) so the techniques had pretty much evolved into what most people associate with modern film. The acting, though still pantomime, had also become much less dramatic. Film actors existed now suddenly only having worked on film and not stage, so the mannerisms had become "film orientated" and not stage. I find that the later era films are always the best to introduce people to, or the comedies of Keaton. Chaplin was king in the day, but his stuff is not as ageless as Keatons was. Chaplin was hurt by his overly melodramatic "sappy" side that was very much a part of the time period. Keaton was just out for laughs, until he did the movie Limelight with...ummm...Chaplin. As for the horror stuff, get ahold of The Cat And The Canary! A personal fave of mine. Obviously Nosferatu is the best, but Cat is such a wonderul movie.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) Subtitle of this thread assumes there haven't been any good HP Lovecraft adaptions. Ever watch Re-Animator or Necronomicon? Good films in their own right, but they are NOT H.P. Lovecraft. Inspired by? Yes. Faithful? No, not at all. The Resurrected got close, as did Dagon, but this one when I first saw the trailers seemed to catch it the most. But now after looking on Amazon, I see all of these from the same HP Society: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-h...6545569-3165717 It seems I need to be spending some money soon... p.s. I also am a big fan of Die Monster Die and The Haunted Palace.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) So Knight, if we called it marriage, but did not force any churches to perform them or recognize them if they chose not to, would that fit your standards? I see no reason why anyone, anywhere, should force a priest to marry 2 people he does not believe should be married, even if its for racial reasons. There are always other options. Judges, for example, or other churches. If a church chooses to perform them, is there some reason that the church should be forbidden from doing so? A church isn't forced to marry anybody. Before I could get married in the church I got married in, I had to jump through hoops galore. I was raised a Luthern, but my wife was Catholic. To marry in the Catholic church, I had to go through classes and agree to a bunch of stuff, some of which included the raising of my kids in a Catholic church. If I didn't agree to these things, all or some I am not sure, the church could easily have said "no" to me.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) My father in law moved to this country and drove a cab for many years, raised a family, 3 kids and bought a home. Sure he started at the bottom, but evetuanlly he owned a bunch of cabs, rented them out and had people driving for him. All he did then was collect the loot. He will be the 1st to tell you that most cabbies want a pity party and don't want to work long hours. The job itself is pretty easy, if you're willing to put in a LOT of hours, just like any other jobs, you can get ahead. Maybe so, but they still need the tips if they are working for somebody else. They are NOT making $20 an hour, or even much of what you give them for the fare.

...this thread has officially started to confuse me. What's happening here???

http://www.cthulhulives.org/CoC/movieinfo.html The HP Society has just finished shooting what will probably turn out to be the ultimate film on an HP story. The film was done in a silent film version to set it in the time the story was written in. Watch the trailer, it looks amazing!

Wow, so then this: was all for the sake of playing devil's advocate??? Mods, admins, can I call him an ass and be O.K. if I ask permission???

I think some of you forget that a cabbie much of the time is not making the money you are giving them. I used to know a cabbie fairly well. He lived in a run down trailer park and was always broke. The guy lived off of the hot dogs at the gas station he usually filled up at, and he was given free coffee by the station. If you think these guys are getting to keep the money you are giving them, you're wrong. Espcecially the guys who work for a cab company. Some of the companies even make them buy their own cabs, if I am not mistaken. If they do own their own cabs on their own, they have to buy the car, pay the insurance, pay the gas, and the upkeep on a car that gets hundreds of miles put on it a day. A cabbie is NOT an easy job. Oh, plus they have to pay dues to be an "offical cabbie" or whatever. You just can't go out and be a cabbie.
