The Worst Owner in Sports? The case for Jerry Reinsdorf

Barco as well who also looks legit, Burrows looked good last year too and they could get a rebound from Harrington who went from great in 2024 to bluh in 2025. That said, the Sox have Smith. Schultz, McDougal and Taylor could end up back starting at some point. So it's not baren in Chicago as far as arms, but they have to get there. -
The Worst Owner in Sports? The case for Jerry Reinsdorf

Yea that's a really great point. I think he has also said he plans on leaving the Pirates to his daughters. So the Nutting family will likely own that team when the next ice age appears. People here are so over this franchise. I wonder if Nutting is gonna try to kill fan interest and then take some sort of payout from some other city to move the team. It's unconscionable to think the Pirates would cease to exist in Pittsburgh, but with this owner I don't put ANYTHING past him (outside of spending money to make the team better). I am way more confident that the White Sox will figure it out first. Both teams are similar, neither can hit. LOL. -

No argument exists to put Jerry or anyone ahead of the Owner of the Pirates as worst owner. The Pirates are an organization with fewer World Series titles, fewer division titles than the White Sox since that man took over. An organization who releases players a merely few PAs or IPS before having to give the player a measly 50K bonus, an organization who removed a Clemente tribute for an advertisement, who sent fan purchased bricks to a landfill, a franchise run by a moron General Manager who has no clue as to how to value the few salable assets the Pirates have. I am a White Sox fan living in Pittsburgh and maybe seeing it first hand is more impactful, but when I see the chicanery going on here I always think, "at least the White Sox are not this." -
Bears have winnable games, but also a bunch of losable ones. The only one I think the Bears should be significant favorites in is the Giants game. I wouldn't favor them at Cincy next week. The Bengals have a terrible defense, but Chase and Higgins may run roughshod over our secondary and with no pass rush against the Statue of Flacco he'll have time to find those guys.

I am loving this 3rd line of Dickinson, Dach and Slaggert. I posted after the TB game how much I liked how Slaggert played and Coach has rewarded him with Line 3 minutes. Awesome. And of course, right after those guys pound on the Kings, Prince Bedard puts one in. Hawks look awesome so far tonight.

He had to go. With Dickson and Burakovsky back there isn't even room for him in the press box and the LAST thing you want to do with a malcontent hockey player (that's not disparaging Lukas, it's just he's not content) is to send him down to Rockford into a lockerroom with kids like Moore and Lardis, etc. Trading him on this given weekend was a given and what they got for him is of little consequence. We move on Hawks!!!

Bears have largely beaten really bad teams so far this year, the Ravens were desperate, and the Bears secondary was banged up. Getting only 6 from those first two drives was an ominous sign. The run defense (other than a couple breakdowns against that fast backup back and a couple Hundley scrambles) I thought acquitted themselves OK. It is the only thing defensively I can say was at least decent, Henry was under 4 ypc, which is the measure I look at. And while I believe time needs to be afforded to Williams he is always good for multiple poorly thrown balls. He had two bad misses on the 2nd drive of the game. The first miss he was bailed out by a penalty. THESE are the missed throws that are costing the Bears. If not for the penalty his 1st miss ends the drive, his 2nd miss kept the drive from moving thus forcing a field goal. He had a couple other misses later, but those two stood out. He did make some great plays though. I am not confident he's a franchise QB, but we have no choice but to see this through. I love Odunze, but he failed to make a tough catch along the sidelines late after a great scramble by WIlliams. Again, the Bears fail to make the big plays in these type of games. Odunze is a special kid and great player, but I need to see him make those catches. I think in time he'll get there. The calamity down in the redzone was bad and there was some questionable play calling as well. That first drive was a work of art and somehow the Bears screwed it up. Also, reviewing a Bears game is never complete without mentioning yet another big pile of penalties they treated us to. Just bad. The Ravens are also the biggest bunch of drama queens in the NFL, constantly "being referrees" constantly emulated the penalty, they do this so damn much they even got a bullshit false start on Thuney called. So I guess it was good strategy then. Move on!!! The Bengals will score at will on this defense next week as I see no chance to control Chase and Higgins, but there is also no excuse the Bears offense shouldn't run all over them as well. Should be a high scoring affair.

Tough win in Tampa Bay. Not pretty, but this is growth. Slaggert (penalty aside) I thought did some good things, knight was awesome, and I liked games by Kaiser, donato, nazar and Greene. there is a ton more talent in the pipeline as well.

Absolutely. Not only did we have Hoyt pitching but the Orioles had Scott McGregor, which with our strong righty lineup I’m not too concerned. oh well. Weep for such a special team. -
I hope lamar plays.

I hope you guys all right about the Ravens. I for one don't like the matchup. You know they will come out like a pack of crazed dogs. They are a yearly playoff team, well coached, having a crap year (at least in SOME part caused by injuries), coming off a bye, at home. Whatever the Ravens do have, rest assured the Bears will get all of it. Bears won't win, hell I doubt they are even close if Caleb plays anything like he did this past Sunday.

Speaking of the above rotation, I know these are from 85, but still...I think the person we lost who this thread was about would have loved the 83 Sox, even if much younger and missed that year. Hard to beat the team that actually won it all, but '83 was special to me. Britt was an absolute warrior in Game 4, we just kept effing up on the basepaths. Get it to game 5 (back then it was best of 5), we have Hoyt pitching and it's lights out for the Birds and we win it all that year. At least that's how it plays out in my mind. -
It was just a flukey penalty puck was on the side and WK was just trying to clear, otherwise, Kaiser has been playing well. That was a FUN overtime, FINALLY we got one. Bedard is a great player, his shot was stoned, but he stayed with it and setup Donato, who had fed Bedard there in OT. I thought the Ducks were slightly better tonight, but Spencer kept the boys alive and then fun ensued. I'd rather the White Sox, Bears and Blackhawks win than anything...so to quote Ice Cube... TODAY was a GOOD DAY.

Coach Q has a really fast team. Hawks sloppy tonight in the offensive zone, pucks getting taken off sticks 3 feet from the blue line isn't gonna work. Knight is holding the fort down. First part of that 2nd period was horrible, but Hawks maybe have settled in. Leo Carlsson, the guy picked after Bedard is a damn good looking player (don't interpret that in any other way than to say I think he's a good looking kid, but CB was the clear #1 and it wasn't really even close good as Carlsson is). That dude has drawn the last two Blackhawks penalties because it appears no one can skate with him. Geezus guys.

Not gonna get away with throwing for barely over 100 yards next week. Ravens are getting some people healthy. If I was a betting man I'd take the Ravens who will be healthier and desperate at home. The Bears passing game has been horribly inconsistent this year. The running game has been brilliant two straight weeks now. Lamar back w/ King Henry is gonna be a serious challenge. Honestly, I am hoping they win there, but won't jump in front of a moving train if they don't. If they do, I'll be shocked and THEN I'll believe this team is legitimately serious.
-
I really don't want to trade for a RB. I think the Bears need someone who can generate pass rush. Also, given what we saw in Washington Monday I think we need to hold off and see if what we saw last week (in terms of rushing and defending the rush) is a real thing. If it is, don't mess with it. One thing I do know is we can't rush the passer. To me that's the need.

Thanks man, I have to admit too I am fair weather, I really want to see the positives. Other than a lull in the 2nd period and then the calamity brought on by the stripes I thought the Hawks were the clearly better team and looking at zone time metrics my synopsis on that is correct. Now after the game Connor, Bert, Murph and even Coach were pissed and despondent. But I am at home going, "hey I am actually happy (mostly)." But the guys were not happy, they didn't get it done, refs or not. This tells me the game last night, despites the positives I saw, was NOT good enough for the team. There is a higher standard being set here. Yea, us fans can gripe about the calls, but in the end the Hawks need/want to win and moral victories are not the goal here. I like it. Now, there WILL be plenty of losses ahead. I don't believe there is enough offensive fire power on this team. And while tending and defense is the backbone of your team, inept offense can put too much pressure on the blue line back. So we NEED to carry play and these last two games we have. So I LOVE the signs. I'd also be remiss if I wasn't ecstatic with the improvement on faceoffs. Very underrated skill and it appears the youngsters have been working on that. I don't think it's just a coincidence that better faceoff game is helping drive offensive possession. I am not delusional that this team is going to have any sort of playoff run, but AT LEAST I am enjoying watching this team, something i can't say about a Hawks team in a good number of years. I can name 6 players who are budding stars (this is NOT including young prospects like Moore, Frondell, Boisvert, Vanacker Lardis, West., etc, all prospects with varying levels of intrigue) and then another 6 or so that look to be quality depth, third and fourth line options on a playoff team. In short, I think this team is "far away" in that I don't project them to make the playoffs, but I also think they are close where I can squint a bit and see this team challenging for the playoffs next year. In this current stage of our rebuild I want TWO things and I'll watch every damn game I can: Make It Fun and Progress. Early returns are good.

Hawks have gotten no breaks, but maybe this is good thing as the team grows. Like Pang said adversity is good for a young team. I think there have been good things in every game this year, some games better, but I see progress. Much better than last two years. Shoulda won tonight, refs stole this one, lost to Boston in OT after FN and CB had golden chances, lost to Montreal with 15 seconds left, and another 1 goal loss to defending Cup champs. I think these last two games have been the best so far, the Hawks are moving the puck much better and quicker, fewer neutral zone gaffs, the team just has looked much crisper the last two games. And until the refs stepped in tonight the Hawks had a 30-19 shots on goal advantage. Just like baseball, you move on the next game is coming soon. Would love to get a good win there before the team gets a much deserved 4 day break.
-
Thanks refs. Multiple bad calls hawks spend last quarter of third on Pk. Wished they coulda gotten the second point. Canucks got a gift tonight. I still hate that team.

Good lord

I’m at a loss. Atrocious. They killed the PP though. Still we lost the goal

Incredible.

Hawks have played quite well tonight. This better be a damn goal. No GTI

Feel free to post a link and let us see it again. And also, you are NOT really Floyd Bannister are you? The 1983 Sox are my favorite team ever, even without the Ship. A couple flukey bounces in Game 2 who knows and I have to admit Boddicker was dominating our hitters. Floyd Bannister (as all those cats in that 83 rotation) was an awesome pitcher.
