The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team
Sox guy replied to palehose1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Stone is a true Sox fan, he sincerely loves the team, that's why he's loyal. He's in it for life, unconditionally. Maybe you should try it too. I don't mind us losing, as long as we have competent announcers, which Stone is, but shrif is not. Jerry's an idiot for hiring him. Just listen to Len instead, who definitely has his faults, but is still 100x better. shrif is such a fool. He pronounces panther correctly, yet Edgar's surname differently, when he already proved he can hack it if he tried. Why the inconsistency. Because he is dumb, that's why. If you pronounce panther right in Spanish, then do it for other Sox names FFS. -
We surrender our will, as of this date

Did you use an antenna before Xfinity picked em up Off by 1

I don't know what I'd do if the Sox blew it up again, it's already painful to see Sale, Cease, Crochet, etc. on other teams. If they take this current crop away from us, I might be done. Having aaa teams within MLB is ridiculous. I'll never forget the first time I was informed that the South Side used to be different in the old days. I was a kid, and an older person told me about how kids and teens would take the 63rd street bus all the way to the lake for a day at the beach. He said the busses were packed with youth with their beach gear, a festive atmosphere going past streets like Kedsie, California, Western, Halsted, on the way east. It was anathema to me that those areas were safe enough for kids from out west to travel thru there on the cta. Mind blowing even, I couldn't imagine those spots looking any different. When I think of streets like Racine and Loomis, I definitely get a different picture based on experience. Recently, another viet nam vet told me about where he grew up on the SE side, and my response was "oh, the Wild Hunneds", as it's known today. It wasn't like that in his day, polarly different.

Yup, which they should have returned to when they ran out of ideas, which was often. Here are all the ad campaigns I remember, if anyone knows of any others, please add: The stars at night. Winning ugly. The Hawk wants you! Chicago's american pastime. The last season in historic Comiskey Park, years from now, you'll say you were there. Good guys wear black. The kids can play. It's Time. Sox Pride. Grinderball rules. We are Chicago baseball. South Side Board of Tourism. Show the Swagger. It's black and it's white. all in. Rooted in history. Many good commercials, but some duds. Good ones include when Mayor Daley was in the stands, telling Guillen what to do. Or Nick Swisher with a sign on the field, acting goofy. Dud, IMO, was when Paulie said he could read Shingo's mind, but all he did was know Japanese. The joke flopped. But the goat Sox commercial, and IMO one of the best sports commercials ever (up there with the NJ Devil in elevator), was when a nun strayed from the other nuns in the convent, to go read her Bible in privacy. But instead, she had a radio in there tuned into the Sox game on 670. I'm chuckling just remembering it, a classic. Gold standard IMO.

Would you be on board with a rebrand when Ishbia takes over?
Sox guy replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My ranking would be: 1)The 83s. To me, they were majestic, not tacky. They looked like Star Wars rebel fighter pilots, which is cool to me. Plus, the colors went perfectly with old comiskey. Doesn't mesh with rate field, so throwbacks shouldn't be worn. Plus, the throwbacks are too different from the originals, so it's pointless. 2) The currents. To be more specific, the 96 onwards, which have names on the back, and the numbers are thicker. 90-95 had no names, and skinnier numbers. Plus, the original black tops did not have a white stripe on the sleeve. They looked very springtraining. 3) The 77s. Sure, they were softballish, but I liked them. They were unique, so you gotta give em that. Plus, I loved the hat. Stone looked great in them. I always like bold creativity, most people are too scared to rock the boat. Veeck went for it, so kudos for that. 4) The dick allens. Before my time, but they're ok, I guess. The earliest Sox game footage online, that I know of, is Nolan Ryan's almost no hitter at Comiskey, where the infield is astroturf and we're wearing the redpins. If anyone here knows of any game footage older than that game, please say so. Can't find any myself. 5) The Thigpens. So, so bland. I was furious when they replaced my favs. The whole branding was bland and lame at the time. Sportsvision became the lame sounding Sportschannel. The ad campaign was "Chicago's american pastime", where a sox hat bumped out a cub hat. Talk about desperate. The whole presentation was so public access. Plus, the fact it was so easy to get free tickets back then made it seem a throwaway experience. They were literally the generic aisle of the supermarket. I'll rank the road unis now: 1) The all dark 77s. Love em, they're better than the dark top, white pants version. 2)Current black tops. Looks like we wear em more than the grays. 3) Early 70s road ones. They got creative with the front wording. 4) Current grays. With diamond sock, of course, like an earlier poster said. 5) 83s. They were just a gray version of the home whites, which is fine. Good choice IMO. 6)Thiggies. Guillen played outfield wearing em, so there's that. -

Wow, I was gonna post a thread asking yall what decisions JR will make soon, and this was one of the options. Here's all of them: 1)Put a 3rd row of suites above the 2nd, mucking up the upper deck even more 2)Change our unis to all white, no pinstripes, tuxedo stripe on pants. Modern minimalist look. No more old english logo, instead it would say CHICAGO WHITE SOX across the front in the blade runner font. Cap would be the same from 1977. Road unis would be all black, top and bottom, with a tiny SOX in white on the upper right chest, same font as cap. Numbers and names would be charcoal gray. The reasoning behind this would be because we're in the future now. 3) Bossard rightfully asks for a raise, so JR fires him. Replaces grass with astroturf. 4)Trance music for player entrances, throughout game, victory song, etc. The "future". Can yall see JR doing any of these How would you rank all these unis The Dick allens are great, but you're right, too red. The 1977s are iconic, but the recent throwbacks got em all wrong, they hung to players' knees. The 83s shoulda stayed till 1991. The Thiggies are only ok because of Thigs. Other than that, they were terrible. Some fans have been wearing the c hat to Comiskey lately, tho. Please Brooks, if you're reading this, please bring them back. Very necessary. I was so mad when they unnecessarily changed their look and TV intro at this time. The pullovers with happy cub patch were perfect. Then they went to buttons, stoned cub patch, then added names to the back with red bordering, which is terrible. They added red to the numbers too. Dumb move. The road unis went from the iconic blue tops to boring grey. So, so dumb. The TV intro was iconic with the rotoscoping. Then they changed it for cringe early 90s editing slop. Morons. Nope, from 87-90. almost as long as the much superior 83s. The Campbell Soup unis, worst in the majors at the time. JR's a marketing genius, eh -
I became a fan because of Caitlin Clark, but then I saw how dreadful the level of play was. No thanks. and they all want raises too. They're lucky the nba props them up. Without them, the league wouldn't exist. as far as a 2027 labor stoppage goes, I do think the Sox will be good by then, so I hope things can be worked out. I wasn't too much of a fan in 94, so I didn't really care about the wasted opportunity at the time, but now it's excruciatingly painful to see what might have been. IMO, 1994 hurt us more than any other team, even more than the Spos. I think we'd have won the pennant at minimum, probably the whole thing. That year had a good ad campaign too, featuring Jim McMahon and MJ. But it was all for naught

Hmm, I wonder if this will cancel the upcoming trade deadline special hosted by Chuck Garfein and his podpartner. Guillen was gonna join them too -
Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale
Sox guy replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Your take has been disproven time and again across the internet, and in real life discussions. The point of the season is to win the World Series, so if you win it, you definitely are the best team, regardless of other stats. You can't judge teams solely by the regular season, it's only a path to the playoffs, nothing more. Countless teams throughout history have eased up in the RS, saving themselves for the playoffs. The playoffs define the season, so that's what you judge them by. If you don't really care for the postseason, then you don't really care for the entire season, since it's all a road to the postseason anyway. Everything a team does before October is to get there. Judge, and other players, do deserve criticism for October choking. You played the whole year to get there, you need to perform when you're there. a playoff HR is worth a ton of RS homers, it's not even close. Judge, and others, have no excuse. If they blow it on the big stage, then they did choke. If you KO everyone in sparring fights, then get cooked for the title, you're not as good as you thought you were. Baseball is fun because it's action mixed with strategy, so we get both worlds, which is great. But the playoffs aren't random. They're won by the teams who were better. Different teams respond to rest differently, and to home field differently. Some teams rust out too much, but oh well, they still prefer the bye than not. In few cases, teams do worse at home too, which is why it wouldn't be a bad idea for MLB to give teams the option to defer home field, woulda done the Stros some good. If a team defers, then they get the 1st 2 games at home, then no more. Imagine the fan reaction to that, would be bonkers if it backfired. -

Thanks, I was looking for it and saw nothing Hopefully they get it in, I doubt the players want to play tomorrow, then travel right after. Playing today gives them a chance to be in their own homes tonight before travelling tomorrow, right -
Thanks, I Hate hot dogs now. Is sacrilege the correct word here, or is it blasphemy. Or is blasphemy a form of sacrilege

Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale
Sox guy replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yup, that's why people shouldn't get too ahead of themselves here. WC teams have had much success lately, division titles really don't mean much. Some speculated that the loss of momentum from a bye is actually a disadvantage. It depends on the team, but I wouldn't rule the flubs out even if they ended up at WC3. If you're good, you will win, extra rest or not. Some teams do perform better under higher pressure. -
Which one was your favorite I remember most of them so vividly: "go with the spirit! The spirit of 76!". "Danley, building your garages with quality!". "I meant a bud lite!". But man, that Kevin Matthews ad always irked me as a kid. Lots of Cheers and Golden Girls promos before I discovered how good those shows were. That Lou Rawls ch. 9 promo was great. Great song they should still use as their anthem.

This is a sexist post. Fr, fr. He is a sexist. I'm offended. Thank you. We must deride that every time it happens. Highly offensive. Now call him a sexist like you called me, bruv. We're all offended here by his chicanery. Going forward, what are we not allowed to say. Can we call players girliemen, or Nancies or even fruitcakes. WSI were sticks in mud, this place need not follow suit. There was a popular shirt I'm sure you remember that Sox fans wore that said "Wrigley Field: Chicago's biggest g** bar". Or the joke "Why do g** guys do it doggy****. So they can both watch the cubs game." Or what do cards and cub fans have in common. They both love albert pujols. and so on, there's a lot more that "wouldn't be allowed today". Where do we draw the line It's not just our side either, cub fans were chanting "Pudge loves men" on Waveland during the 2003 nlcs. a heads up would be nice on what's allowable. WSI is barren now because they ban everything. Free speech is a good thing. Tell him to put CHSN back on 62.2, I hate that Stadium channel. The mma is crap, MLW is crap, bananaball blows, and that amateur flag gridirion league they show at 4am is absolute crap as well. Plus, they also show Vince Russo's podcast, as if anyone give a F what that fool Vinny Ru has to say. Worst channel ever. We want CHSN back, please tell Brooks Bald, I mean Boyer this. Thanks. as far as tonight's game goes, it sucked. Petrina crow armstrong is a chump. Jane Horton was too hard to hit. We shouldn't be losing to Craigrina Counsell's team, how embarrassing. We're only up 1 in the all time series now (never discount 1906). If we lose tomorrow, we lose the series 1-5, which I don't think ever happened before. This is terrible, we dominated them from 1985-97, WTF happened now. (I was purposely exaggerating with the names, btw, before anyone is ready to REEEEE. Relax.) -
7/26/2025 - Cubs @ Sox game 2 - Horton v. Civale - 6:10 CDT
Sox guy replied to WestEddy's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Ready to watch this on WCIU the U, which used to be Univision for those old enough to remember. Then it was Home Shopping Network for a few years until a much ballyhooed rebrand to "the U", which was meant to be a cool, hip channel for young urban people. They even had a dance party usa knockoff called "U Dance". Kinda cringe, but I remember the rebrand like it was yesterday. Good to see baseball back on it. Ironically, 62.2 is showing baseball rn too, but it's bananaball, for those of you who need an appetiser before the main course. -
I heard that the reason JR and Brooks Boyer didn't care for him was because they were ableists. They didn't want someone disabled there. How much of that rumor is true. Man, how great would it be to have JB calling this exciting group of prospects right now. Ugh, miss the guy. He had a true White Sox voice, akin to Gary Thorne IMO, who was a great fit with us.
-
Yeah, obviously WCIU would air more than just Sky games if they could, but the teams are bound to their networks unless exceptions are made. Good thing we have 7 exceptions now, which Comcast allowed probably because the top tier subscriptions weren't increasing. So this is a way to advertise what you'd get if you buy the premium tier. That's great for us, I was so happy to see the broadcast on Tv again last night, even blasted the commercials loud and clear since I missed them too :p. "Hey there DJ, play that song, play that music all night long". Thank You Jerry for giving us these scraps. May you live long and prosper for your benevolence. What a kind, good hearted man. Does anyone here think this will continue next year and beyond. Will cubs join in on the free samples as well

The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team
Sox guy replied to palehose1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Because as I said, he doesn't have it in his heart to truly hate, just a mild dislike. He knows the fans want him to stay, that's why he stayed, for us, not himself. He doesn't need the cash. He'll deal with the guy for our sake. Stone cares. Disagree. He's our mva. Most Valuable announcer. You're completely wrong here, this is a total false equivalency. We're not talking about a whole message board, just 1 moderator. That's it, 1 guy who has the power to ban. Like I said before, I welcome disagreements over anything, be it sports or "offensive phrases". Disagreeing is 1 thing, banning is another. Do you not recognise your own disconnect here I do detest conformity, there was no disconnect. Your wrong analogy was a failed reach. Well, I'd say that a live and let live attitude is the evolution of society and language. a society that doesn't get offended over everything is more evolved, more peaceful, more easy going. Yup, It's senseless to have 2 Yankees on there when they could balance it out with a 3rd team, which would be more representative of their national audience. Jeets doesn't even contribute anything, he's just there. -
The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team
Sox guy replied to palehose1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ugh, I hate that. This shouldn't be like reddit. I detest conformity, we should even allow cub fans here. Well, I'm fully prepared to take heat for any take, as long as it's not a ban. I got banned from WSI for saying someone threw like a girl. One of the most common phrases in our language, completely benign and harmless, said by millions every second of every day... and I got banned for it. So yeah, I'm gonna tread carefully here until it's proven that the coast is clear. That being said, Shriffen sucks. He's lame, talentless, annoying, cringe, and has absolutely no guap. Doesn't matter how much 108 rear he brownnoses, that doesn't make him a good announcer. Stone knows it, but has too much class to just tell him "Leave. Just leave already.". But he definitely wants to. Despite a phenomenal career on the field and in booth, plus acting opportunities like when he was offered to get with Susan Lucci... Stone is still humble. It's interesting to witness. He's deeply religious, and simply wouldn't hurt a soul, almost to a fault. Except when he slams former ch7 political reporter andy Shaw on twitter, those tweets are hilarious. -
The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team
Sox guy replied to palehose1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Connor is an absolute pro, we're lucky to have him. He's miles better than Shriff on PBP. I hope we don't trade Connor for prospects. You can't blame him for that, he's a Ford Frick caliber talent paired with a shmuck who makes "boom goes the dynamite" guy look like Vin. Shriff is an absolute disaster, but I think he's signed for 2 years beyond this one, so we're stuck with him. I have the gut feeling I know what Brooks and Jerry are thinking when approving of the guy, but can't really articulate it without sounding controversial. Gotta get a feel for the freespeechness of this forum before knowing what can be said here. Nonetheless, the Sox had the ideal pairing with Len and Steve, yet tossed it like gold into a dumpster. Just terrible. and like I said in another thread, I don't buy Len's whole "radio only" shtick. Put him on TV, return him to radio if we make playoffs. Simple as. I do hope Sox come to their senses and toss out Shriffen like Jazz by Uncle Phil. But that would mean they'd eat money, which they won't do. add Shriff's hiring, and the Benetti debacle, to the list of dumb things Jerry has done thru the years. Steve Stone has some years left in him, he isn't done by a long shot. We need to keep him here, he's a true White Sock. Listen to his demands, cater to the guy if necessary, we are very lucky to have him too. Gotta value your prised assets like Stone and McKnight. Guillen too, I hope the org truly shows them how much they're valued. Shriff is crap, and Chuck is ok, but wouldn't be a big loss if he left. I'd prefer Tom Waddle in his spot, or even White Sox Dave tbh. Chuck can be a bit too nerdy sometimes. Brooke, of course, is a perfect 10 lookswise. Talent, however... no comment. -
Can you post numbers to back this up, pls. Last I saw, we only outdrew them in 91, but it was back to same ol from 92 onward. Meaning, since 83, we only outdrew them once. One single solitary year in 42 years. The cubs are 41-1 since 83 in the attendance battle, last I saw. Pls post the actual stats to refute this. Nonetheless, the die was cast by the 90s. Sure. Frank and Rockin Robin gave us a much needed resurgence, but we were already pigeonholed in the #2 slot by then. You can't say it was even neck n neck from 84 to 91. We were done. Ok, you wanna say 84 didn't break us, that's fine. It knocked us down. Then 85-90 was us flailing on the canvass, trying to beat the 10 count. In 1991, we were up, ready for the next round, behind on points. Got some good shots in in 93 and 94, then came the vicious uppercut. In 1999, we were officially broken. Never was a more shellshocked, apathetic, brain dead atmosphere than 1999 in Comiskey. We weren't even self effacing anymore. Just blank stares as far as the eye could see. I don't think even the Clippers hit such rock bottom.
-
lol what. No one's flexing nor saying what you should care about. Did you even read the post. It was an assessment of Jerry's ownership. Maybe he's been terrible, or maybe he made decisions the rest of us would have, so we shouldn't judge. Moon baseball is appealing to some, and it was the late 80s where everyone was obsessed with futuristic stuff. So maybe everyone else here would also have insisted on stratospheric seats. Like Trent Resnor said, they bring you closer to God. I don't know enough about JR's impact on the Strike, so I couldn't really comment on that. Re: the 1984 shift in Chicago culture. Yes, that definitely was the turning point we haven't recovered from. It was hard to compete with Ryno, the Deer, Sarge, Bull (thin version), Penguin, Red Baron, Rainbow Trout and Leaping Larry Bowa. Plus Jody, the king of the wild frontier. I was a huge fan of them back then, but when the playoffs arrived, I was glad SD won, which was the 1st time my allegiance started to shift. It started a slow burn where the cubs went from great heroes, to a bunch of idiots who deserved nothing but last place. Sadly, pca is the new Ryno. You can't help but respect the kid, and he'll probably lead them to the title this year. Gonna be a rough October, yall, buckle up.
