Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
Sox guy replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Can you name names. That's heartbreaking to hear. I always see Comiskey as a happy place, win or lose. It's surprising to hear that players can get so bummed despite being part of such a legacy organisation. -
What the hell is this f'in insane take right here. Shohei literally cried when he won it. it's a pretty big deal, it will be lit if they use my idea. Kind of meh if it ends in spring training. Disagree, i think the summertime atmosphere, plus the fact they're all in midseason form, would rock the house. The 4 nations tourney was a success in NHL. I see nothing wrong with doing something similar in MLB. Having games of that magnitude in March cheapens it, IMO. But alas, MLB always does the wrong thing, so expect an anticlimactic WBC that is completely overshadowed by March Madness, then a boring asg no one cares about.

It seems like there are 2 camps here: 1 that is furious at our incompetence, and the other who just doesn't care. Finds it funny, even. I'm in the latter. I have no problem with a 3rd straight 100L season, with 2026 possibly being 4 in a row. It's funny to see how Chuck and Guillen deal with it, and also the rest of the staff. Will Shriff become more obnoxious. Will Steve become more fed up with him. What kind of giveaways and red herrings will the club do to ease the pain. Will "Sell the Team" chants return loud and clear. Do yall remember when we botched a popup against the angels when we had 120 losses so far. The Sell the Team chants were as loud as the Paulie chants from the good days. It was epic, loved it. People rag on JR, but let's take a closer look at his ownership. Where have the Sox ranked when it comes to payroll as a percentage of revenue. Has he really been as cheap as the Pirates owner. Is the ROI worth it. Was the albert belle contract worth it. The White Flag Trade was, it gave us the 2000 div title. What decisions do you feel were dumb, and which were gold. I'll list what I feel were asinine by JR, IMO: 1)Sportsvision. Now, hindsight is 20/20, so in a way, I do understand why he thought that renting a clunky box to put on your TV, then paying a monthly fee, was the wave of the future. It's easy to say he was dumb after the fact, but imagine being in that board room when the presentation was made. Remember, the 80s were all about being futuristic. I could see how they were convinced this was a new, cool, slick, hip way to watch sports, and the cash would flow in. There was so much failed new tech in the 80s, but everyone was addicted to futurism and making life more hi tech by any means, even if we got weird things like the Olympics Triplecast. But hey, gotta try something. 2)Not continuing the 7th inning stretch after Harry left. Harry doesn't own the song, it started all in Comiskey, why not have Drysdale, Hawk, Nancy or even Honda sing it instead. Gary Thorne and Wimpy too. The tradition should have continued rather than have the cubs usurp it as if it was their idea. It wasn't. 3)Ditching the 83 uniforms for the bland crap from 87-90. How did yall react to that nonsense. The 83s went perfect with the old park, then all of a sudden, we're a little league team. He might as well have renamed us the Wildcats, the new unis were so generic, I was furious at the time. Its only redemption is its association with Thiggy. Other than that, crap. 4)Hiring Hawk as GM, plus marketing the season around that. "The Hawk wants you!". For someone who also rooted for the flubs at the time, marketing this odd old southerner as the face of the franchise did not entice me to make the full switch. It was kind of cringe tbh. 5)Putting the upperdeck at new Comiskey on the literal moon. He did this to add more suites, do those suites ever even get sold. Then he lopped off 6 rows from it, which made matters worse. What a colossal waste of time and funds, mercy. The cash should have been spent on talent, not lopping off seats you'll eventually need. Ugh. 6)Making New Comisk, "the ballmall", as blue as a tidy bowl cleaner. Blue is not our color, this was a dumb decision that fans did not like. I'll never forget the underwhelming reaction to the new park on opening day. I was in school, and the teacher put on the game because everyone wanted to see what the new yard looked like. Then when he did, the reaction was "Oh. Ok.". Like a Simpsons ep where a big reveal turns out to be nothing, then Nelson punches who he thinks is to blame. 7)Not having the outfield face the Sears Tower, plus redoing both bullpens. Unwise, imo. So, imo, he needs to reap what he sowed. The city was there for the taking, the flubs were hopeless, Harry's skills were diminishing, we had the coolest logo in sports, plus a new park with the potential to catapult us to #1. and instead we stayed at #2. Despite beating the north to the title, and winning it in a much better way. We are half as popular as the flubs, which is very hard to admit. Painful, even. Bad choices catch up with you.

Bob is right. This was a colossal waste of time. BOOOOOOOOO!!!!! WBC semifinals next year instead. Then, the Final Tuesday night. DO IT, MLB!!!

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
Sox guy replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How many of the most recent division-winning team remain. It's sad that they dwindled down so soon. The last 83er was Fisk, who stayed till 93. The last 93er was Hurt, who stayed till 2005. The last 2000 and 2005 player was Paulie, right. I think the last 2008 member was alexei ramirez. -
You guessed right. Gen X Haven't watched the derby since they juiced the balls to gain interest, then bobby abreu went ham. That was just a few years ago, right I have an idea to spice this up, since the constant tweaking doesn't seem to increase ratings: Make it a 9 inning game where only HRs count. anything else in fair territory is an out. No fielders, you still use your own BP pitcher. Every taken pitch is a strike, so you gotta swing eventually. What yall think, it's something different and might be neat. But the current format just isn't appealing. Maybe they should do other things with asg eve, like an also-ran game for those who just missed the cut. Next year, IMO, asg eve should be the WBC semis, with the Final substituting for the asg. Which means the tourney pauses after 1/4 finals

DJ is better than Shriff imo We put one of the worst PBP guys on TV, yet put one of the best PBP vets on radio. It's good for me since I no longer get CHSN, but still, bad business imo. Len doesn't have to be barred from doing postseason games, there's nothing stopping them from returning him to radio if we make October. Len and Steve is an a1 pairing, it's foolish to keep them apart. Plus, I think Shrif and DJ would have more rapport, imo. But w/e, not my company, not my problem if they lose fans. I don't buy Len's reason for leaving the flubs, I sincerely believe he did so because of Ricketts' views. Idk if we can talk about that here, even tho there'd be no bias. But I wonder if others here believe Len's ostensive reason. I think he's lying, plus he acts weird about it every time he's confronted on it on X. He's deleted so many tweets for no reason, too, just strange behavior. Granted, he can never admit it if that's the case, so he's definitely in a bind. Does anyone else here feel he left the North because of his personal views and principles, rather than his "playoffs" reason

Was the Meter stored in the ballpark, or did they have to bring it everyday They were fast to compute his new avg every time he got a hit. Did they dial it up during the at bat just in case he'd get a hit, then dial it back down in case he got out

First cub manager I remember, I remember when he bumped an ump, then flicked him off. Or maybe those were 2 separate instances. I was cub fan that 83 season, even cried when Reds hit a granny against them, which got me in trouble. That's right, I got yelled at for taking baseball too seriously, then my sis thought it was so hilarious, she invited a friend over to join in at laughing at my "pain". RIP to a real one, him and Torborg are now gone. Popeye too. We still have Frey, Tony, Fregosi, Gene Michael, Jim Essian, Gene Lamont, Bevington and Treblehorn. The good ol days.

Tribe at Sox, Friday makeup DH 2:10 PM Start
Sox guy replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Hope you're not a betting type Wdym by arrived, I thought it was on the premium tier this whole time. So, why is the game rescheduled to 2pm instead of the usual 1pm. Is the transition between games always smooth. at a recent NY crosstown split DH, the first game was delayed and went into extras, so then when it was time to start game 2, fans from the 1st game weren't all corralled out of there yet, so it became a whole disaster. They had to delay game 2 IIRC because of the fan jam. Total mess. I take it if any fans from game 1 are bold enough to stay in the park until game 2, security will just let them. Has anyone ever tried this. Would like to know what it's like to loiter in there that long What was the yacht rock promotion about, I love that genre. Were they gonna play songs between innings. Did they play YR music during the rain delay. Can last night's tickets be redeemed for another game, or do clubs not do that anymore once a rescheduled date is set. Ugh, with this daytime reschedule, it looks like our day games this year still outnumber our night games. This season might have the latest date where night games finally outnumber day, since olden days. What was the Rain Delay Theatre last night. Was it Top Prospects again, or the WS Podcast. I miss the days of TWIB during delays -
Which row of suites

Gosh, so many Negative Nancies, Debbie Downers, Pessimistic Petes, and Gray Sky Gregs. Have faith, yall. Colson will lead us there.
-
There's still baseball on channel 62.2. But it's bananaball. It was faux baseball for kids, hardly appealing to us. Music plays during the whole game, tthey sing don't stop believing, which was cool. Talent level seem a-ball at best. It was meh. Commentator was annoying, a temu joey styles.

By winning the 2027 WS
-
Which is why the Dodgers are at just 2-1 to win that title, while we are 50-1. So what, didn't we start 2005 at like 19-1 to win it all. The cubs had better odds than us at the start. The Sox will shock the world. I hope.

I do wanna admit those things, r/whitesox is a good sub, and the Sox do have potential for greatness this decade. There's a guy named sandman in the reddit sub who's a wealth of info, plus each game thread automatically posts game highlights. as far as the Palehose go, once all our prospects develop, watch out. So, I'll stick to my prediction that we will be Team of the Decade, like Giants were for 2010s, or NYY for 2000s and 90s. See you here in 2029 to see if I was right. *hits bookmark*

Rice boys are nice boys, we play with Fisher Price toys. I have a request for the admins here: Please preserve the archives forever, even if this site goes under, which it hopefully won't. I asked this at WSI, but they nuked the archives anyway, which was dumb of them. Lots of valuable stuff, especially for a forum this old. Do yall have a link to the 9/11 thread Was this ever run on vbulletin. It was better, because it had easy accessible low-fi archives, in chronological order even if you necrobumped a thread. Do you guys have a similar way to view historic threads I posted at southsiders.net till I discovered WSI, then stayed there till it all of a sudden disappeared. I found out about its new site, but my handle didn't work, and I'm not gonna make a new account just for those clowns. If they're dumb enough to destroy the most popular Sox site, and one of th most popular fan forums period, then screw them. They deserve no traffic. So again, please preserve Soxtalk history, and make it easily accessible if you can. I can't believe old forum admins dont care about living history, Somethingawful forums also screwed up with their archiving. Their threads go back to the 90s, but now they're either nuked too, or behind some kind of paywall. I cant sift thru them like I used to. Reading candid 90s conversations is fascinating, people don't understand what a slice of history and humanity message boards are. doublem23, I knew i'd run into you again.

Looks like any anger or sadness over the rug pull has subsided. Maybe Jerry did this because he cares about us. He didn't want us to watch wimpy baseball, so he replaced it with manly mma. He wants to toughen us up, which is better for us. In mma, they wear gloves to hit each other with, in an unforgiving octagon. In baseball, they wear a cap! at the park! In mma, the goal is to pummel your opponent into submission. In baseball, the goal is to go home! To be safe, at home! I don't know bout yall, but I'm enjoying all the cool stuff on Stadium. They even have bananaball, which was interesting. We should thank Jerry for replacing Sox with sockem. There've been great fights so far, the women's division has been lit too.

Of course. If their 3 straight 100L seasons led to 2 titles, then the same will happen to us. Seriously, tho, I'm optimistic for the future. Gray skies will clear up, no doubt. I predicted on reddit in 2021 that the Sox will be the Team of the 2020s. It's still possible.

Is “The 78” Dead? Or even more alive? Fire announce plans for SSS
Sox guy replied to soxfan18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is he also "redpilled" I can't believe some here are suggesting a retractable dome in our town. WTH. Do you also want astroturf. Hell yeah, let's do it, 80s style turf, not the grassy kind of today. also, we need to change our team names to singular abstract nouns, that's what's cool. The Chicago Roar, the Chicago Bravery, the Chicago Stampede, The Chicago Purchase, the Chicago Cuteness. Hell, yeah, with more teal and purple for all of them. Come on, yall, outdoor sports are meant to be played in the elements. Drink hot cocoa and wear layers in april, drink lots of water and use the CF shower in the heat. You can do it. Whatever happened to Chitown Tough. Plus, rain delays are a chance to watch Top Prospects or Don't Stop Believing: a 2005 reunion. Doubleheaders are a chance to wear the blacktop at home, which has only been done once this year, which is baffling. They were worn way more often previously, does anyone know why it's only been once so far. This really bothers me, we've worn them at home at least 20x per year since 91. Brooks probably fears it would impede cityconnect sales, which it won't. -
I predict 61 wins. 3 straight 100L seasons like the 2010s Stros. Who then proceeded to have 3 straight 100W seasons a few years later
-
We are currently in the longest Chicago sports championship drought in most of our lifetimes. 86-91 was 5 years, then 1,1,3,1,1, then 7, which ended in 2005. Then 5, 3, 2, 1, and now almost 9 years. also cray is that the mighty Bears have the current longest, they were once the pinnacle of success here. Our lead was 2.5 going into that game, right, which was the smallest it ever got. It was surreal when we lost the series opener, cutting it down to a flimsy 2.5. It put me in space out mode. Like Marge when Bart got caught stealing a video game. Bad luck is inevitable too, it balances out. Losing the Hurt was monstrous bad luck, we were more unlucky in 2005 than lucky. The bottom line is that it's poor sportsmanship to call a champion lucky. No title came easy. Because of our 11-1 run, I'd match us up against any legendary team, 84 Tigers, 98 NYY, etc. , any of them. It could very well be that the 2005 Sox were the goat. 11-1 can't be chuffed, best record since 1976, better than 1999 NYY since their one loss was way worse than ours. Tigers couldn't sweep the series, 98 NYY lost 2 alcs games. The 05 champs might be the goat. Wasn't our peak lead 17.5 games. Looking forward (or as Guillen says, "looking for") to the rest of the series, but Sox editors, please, stop cropping footage FFS. No one will be bothered by black sidebars. Original aspect ratio, please, it looks so amateur when it's cropped.

So, this teacher brings a gun to Comiskey because she thinks Sox fans are insane, or did her students make her feel everyone is insane, so she's strapped everywhere, not just at the game.

are you guys ok with these 3:10 Saturday starts. Used to be 6pm every Saturday, followed by fireworks. I know fireworks was moved to Fridays, but that's no reason for moving up Saturday times. Should be night games IMO. We've had more day games this season than night so far, which is weird. I don't think they're being forced to by FOX, are they On that note, weeknight games should be 7pm, no need for 6:40 anymore now with the pitch clock. If 7:10 is too late, 7 on the dot would be fine.
