Not a fan of Civale, however, it's him or Clevinger, so I love the trade. If Elko is not the answer, and his pedigree does make that unlikely, the Sox have a ton of options starting with moving Vargas there and playing some mix of Rojas, Sosa, Colson, Baldwin, or eventually even Antonacci or Bonemer at 3rd. First Base, not a tough position to fill.

I wish Andrew the best and would not be surprised if the change of scenery plus the Miller Park effect really helps him.

I’m gonna sit on the side of “very surprised” if he turns it around

Isn’t Civales shoulder just kaput

I think he fits in a bucket of "plausible starting pitcher", which if you trade Vaughn's 5.5 million salary for his $8? million salary, you'd probably pay $2.5 million for that.

Tim Elko stinks but I would rather see him at 1B all year because they have nothing to lose by doing that.

I doubt that happens though, because with Sosa coming back soon and Colson looming there isn't going to be a spot to play Elko when everything gets shuffled around.

Very happy to see they finally cut bait on Vaughn and Civale offers more value to this team than Vaughn does. The more of these unathletic plodder type guys they can get rid of the better. This roster looks so much better athletically than the days of station to station statues the Sox use to throw out there.

If Civale can eat some innings and be better than Chubz Wilson, it's fine.  Vaughn is gone, and that's a plus.  I don't see him turning it around, at least not dramatically.

Elko doesn't seem to be the answer at 1B, but this move keeps him up with the club for a while at least.

Tim Elko is not going to get all year to strike out on pitches you need a golf club to hit.

Give Elko  the rest of the season. The mix and match options will always be available.
Rojas along with Slater et al should be DFAd in the near future (Slater today, really).

Yes but in the bullpen.

No, they were trying to move him to the bullpen which is why he demanded a trade. I think his ERA is 3.33, but you have to factor in Milwaukee's stellar defense.

I know, I just meant that if you were going to give someone an extended look right now is the time to do it. Either way, he will get squeezed out when some of these guys come back from injury or get called up.

He should be down when Sosa comes back. He's a AAA player.
