QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Great, another Twins reliever that will likely kick our ass for years to come. Why don't they ever pitch someone like Kevin Walker? Hed own us then. -

Ever since he pitched vs the Yanks hes been lights out. Maybe we should add a game to our schedule for Freddy to face Seattle, maybe that will get him back...errr nvm. He will just get outpitched by Joel Piniero... -

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) KC has kept it close, as they trail 6-4 now. Again, I'd like to take the time to say FU to Mike Sweeney. The sox are gonna have to start winning and keep that lead by themselves for the WC and the division, no ones going to help them. -

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Jose Contreras is god...Where would we be without him? Wow... Hes filling in Loaiza's shoes pretty good, just like Loaiza if it weren't for him in 03 we wouldn't even had thought about the playoffs. Keep mowing em down Count. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Another else find it ironic that this team can't even hit a "sac" fly now? Their experts at infield flys though oh and also foul outs. -

QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) I cant believe Rowand has 115 Strikeouts I almost think hes the biggest offensive problem in this second half In the first half he was so good with runners in scoring position..... now he K's and doesnt even have the long ball This team has a problem with getting guys in when most needed unless a pitcher gives it to them right there, even then sometimes they just foul it straight back. :headshake -

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) If I'm Ozzie I don't take count out of this game period, no matter how many pitches he has in the ninth You can count on him to do that, he won't let you down. -

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) Thats a good idea. We obviously dont have a #3 hitter, so why not use whoever's hot at the time?? Because Ozzie can't hurt Carl's feelings. -
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 03:04 PM) Every game in recent weeks, when we win, I hear this: "YES! I have the faith back! They will make the playoffs! They have a shot! Great baseball! That was great! I love this team! GO SOX!" And every game we LOSE, I hear this: "NO! I have lost all faith in this team! They SUCK! They are OUT! They are NOT going to make the playoffs! I hate this team!" Can someone make up their mind? I realize YES, we SHOULD have won that game. The game was tied when Santana left. But jeez, we still have a slight lead and 10 games left, including 4 with Detroit. If you want to go on with the pessimism, fine, and IF the Sox ultimately choke, sure, go ahead and say "I told you so" as much as you want. But I still have the faith, and I'm keeping it to the end. I prolly also won't be posting here much the next 10 days since all I'll be hearing is what I mentioned above. Be confident. We took 2 out of 3 against the Twinkies last time, we can win or split this series just as well. And Detroit should be easy(knock on wood). Yeah, I said that in the game thread last night but people will be in and out the rest of the way no matter what anyone says...but yeah I know exactly what you mean. Either way, if we make it and actually win the first game of the playoffs everyones going to hop back on so whats the use. Only one thing I have to say...Go Sox!

Cleveland vs. Chicago 09/21/05 7:05PM CT
Whitewashed in '05 replied to S720's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 21, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) I have always respected your insight and I respect it even more after this post. I will say that IMO lots of guys have underachieved ... Uribe is still undisciplined but improving to an extent. Konerko has underperformed in the clutch. Crede has certainly underperformed. Iguchi, for a supposed contact hitter, has struck out over 110 times. Podsednik has underperformed on defense. Guys like Dye, Rowand, Pierzynski have had bad stretches, and Dye has had some bad defensive plays. One key element in this slide was the loss of Thomas. Certainly they weren't counting on him for 500 AB's but he was still dangerous at the plate and made other hitters around him better. And players counted on to pick up the slack have not done so to the level everyone hoped. IMO Carl Everett will not be here next year no matter what. Coaching? Who knows, maybe someone will be a scapegoat, maybe not. Lots of hitters hated Hriniak and some couldn't do s*** with him as hitting coach. Von Joshua, that other guy they had ... when does it end? Get more contact hitters and wear the other team down. If you are stuck with contracts or some guy has an overriding skill which enhances his value, then fill in elsewhere. Every team in the league faces these same dilemnas every year, all year long. Well you are right, you can only blame the coaches for so much but when Uribe has to go outside of the team for Hriniak to improve his swing, isn't that saying something?
