QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) It's just a general rule. Every single goalie would rather take the shooter in an isolated situation and not have to worry about stopping a one time shot off of a pass. There's no clear definition or trick to it, and every situation is different. But my original claim holds true. Every goalie Ive ever heard talk about it said that they'd rather the D-Man play the pass and not mess with the puck carrier in a 2 on 1. A lot of times what happens is that if the D-Man goes for the puck carrier he ends up either screening the shot or a pass gets through to the wide open other guy and it ends up in the net.

Who would you rather see win the NLCS?
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to Takatsufan's topic in The Diamond Club
I picked Houston because I believe they'd be the easier opponent if we make it past Anahiem. Personally though I think a really kickass battle royale of a WS would be a White Sox/Cards series. That would be one for the ages. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) We probably are getting somewhere in Afghanistan, although it's still disconcerting that our casualty rates keep going up there as well. Somehow though, considering they're talking about us withdrawing from Iraq...I don't think that they believe they're losing there. They dont think so certainly but then it could fairly be said that Iraq is Al Quada's last stand. Naturally they're gonna fight like hell there.

Riddle me this Trent Yawney

QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 11:30 PM) In related news... Yawney will probably be seeing this by December. Another yes man hired by the organ-i-zation to toe the party line. The last guy the Slackhawks had working for them that had a mind of his own was Mike Kennan and we all saw what happened to him. Its also no co-incidence that it was under his leadership that they came within sniffing distance of the Stanley Cup. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) They were "Defeated" in Afghanistan a long time ago, in the sense that they lost their main base of operations and training there. The only other "Defeat" that I think they can really suffer there is the capture/death of Zawahiri and Bin Laden. That may be true but you know you're getting somewhere when even THEY admit they are losing.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) By the way...is this same umpiring crew with the ALCS throughout the playoffs? I really hope not. That strike zone that Washburn got was insane.
-
QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) This series has been all Crede. From giving them the 3rd run in game 1, to hitting the game winning double in game 2, Crede has won a game for both teams. Time to update that siggy there killer.
-
How do you get blown out 4-1 and play s***ty defense and say it was your best game of the year? If thats the best they can play...................... :rolly
-
QUOTE(Reddy @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:50 PM) two words from a guy who watched it, and these words are what i was muttering to myself during his at bat: RALLY CREDE!!!! it lives you f***ing haters! Thats a kickass siggy picture you got there.

QUOTE(black jack @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) Yeah they were swinging at s***, but I can't count the number of low and outside pitches that were called for strikes. They were almost forced to swing at the garbage. The zone Washburn got was HUGE. I was staring at disbelief at pitches chest high getting called for strikes and there were a couple that got called below the knees.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) I think Garland is gonna step up big time. I expect the offense to be much better on the road. The pitching staff has just ROCKED so far this post-season...........as I expected them to.......now the hitters gotta step it up a couple of notches and give em some help.
-
They need to stop practicing their golf swing on every damn piece of crap thrown in the dirt. That absolutely killed us tonight.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) I had visions of a strikeout on a ball in the dirt just like how every one of our other hitters did against Escobar. I'm glad I was wrong. Escobar left his splitter up. Our guys were swinging away at crap in the dirt all night long. I was talking to one of my friends and I called the AJ k on the pitch in the dirt. Fortunately it turned out ok.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) It might have been the right call, its still hard to tell, but he signaled out. That's the problem. I am so happy he did call it a trap.I think Buerhle was going back out in the 10th and I had visions of Britt Burns and Tito Landrum back in 1983. That game featured a baserunning blunder just like this one. What did the replay show when Crede was doubled up? It really didn't matter, Pods would have had to drive him in, and I think we all know that wasn't happening. The replay on Crede getting doubled off showed he was clearly out.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) I prefer a swift kick to the nuts Since when did Flubbs fans have nuts.............aside from in their mouths?

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) It will be funny to see how the Cubune spins this, I'm sure they'll focus on the call about 98% and call it bad and wrong and largely ignore MB's awesome outing. if it was the Cubs they would shrug it off and say it's part of the game and it shows how the team is magical. Thats the entire media dude. MBs outing will get little or no mention whatsoever and thats sad.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) I LUV JOSH PAUL That doesn't need to be in green. LOL!
-
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) At least Kruk and Reynolds on Sportscenter initially are saying roughly the same thing. They're saying that Josh Paul handled the situation poorly and that the ump probably never called A.J. out because of how he reacted that's their initial reactions, I won't be suprised if they change once the higher ups at ESPN talk to them. I gotta hand it to them. For the 1st time all season long they showed some integrity and some brain power. We'll see if it lasts.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) Where'd you see that from?? Just wondering cause I still have not seen it. They only ran it on ESPN about 20 times since the end of the game.

QUOTE(S720 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:17 PM) NUKE, LET THEM BE! All season long we have been disrespected by everyone outside of the White Sox Army. The rest of the major league baseball is just waiting for any kind of opportunity to tear us down. I don't give a damn who criticizes us now. People criticized us when they thought we would forfeit the rained-out game against Boston. People criticized us when they thought we would not want to move this series' first game back to Tuesday. People criticized us for our lacking of perfect attendance. Now people are criticizing us for cheating with the umpire. To all of the people who made these accusations, I will take upon Pierzynski's attitude and say, "The HELL with all of you. All I care about is my White Sox and the RING!" This year is so special. I want to take every chance I can to stick it to these motherf***ers. To make em eat s*** for all the disrespect they gave us, for all the snubs we got, for all the bulls*** in the press about how we couldn't do this that and the other thing. -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) Did you see the zoomed-in frame-by-frame replay? Obviously not.
-
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) Nuke they are exactly right. Had Paul saw the ump make the alleged "out" call, then they would have a valid argument that they relied on it. But Paul threw the ball out when the only call the ump had made was the "swing and miss" call. With out audio it is impossible to tell the whole story, but I think that AJ heard something that indicated he was not out yet. And by the time that indication came, Paul had already thrown the ball so the Angels were committed to the "he caught the ball" story. I think the replay shows that AJ started running after the ball was already out of Paul's hand. SB AJ evidentely never heard the ump call him out so he ran with it. I gotta give him props for the heads up play. Whats the worst that could happen? They call him out again? NICE WORK AJ!

We finally got a call to go our way and we got the win cause of it. We need to go in there and capitalize on this now. We need to go play with some balls out on the West Coast. Garland........Its all up to you now. RIP EM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
