  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) Per ESPN White heat? According to the Daily Southtown, Rogers Clemens is one pitcher White Sox GM Ken Williams would put together almost any package to try to acquire. And source has said that Williams will try to see if prying Roger Clemens from Houston is nothing more than a pipe dream. Williams cannot discuss players on other teams because of tampering rules, but such a move would help the Sox and also keep Clemens from the Yankees and Red Sox, two teams that could make a run at Clemens because of their resources. The problem is that Clemens would have to approve a deal to Chicago, which is unlikely. Second, the Astros don't believe they're out of the NL wild-card race. What does everyone think about this?? I know this may cause a few backlashes, but I would be for it. Because I have said it many times, I think this is the year, and we need to do everything we can to try and win it all this year. Clemens is flat out dominating and could really give us the "real" Ace at the top of the rotation. This would be a rental and nothing more. I dont know if Clemens even wants to come here and I think the price would be too high even if he did. PASS
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) I think you're wrong, Nuke. China is no Japan, nor will they commit the same foolish mistakes. They are a patient people, and I GUARANTEE you they are the next superpower, and ready to pounce on our ass. I have a lot more thoughts behind this, but China will make Japan look like amateurs when they come and screw our economy. True that they can screw our economy over but we can screw theirs over twice as hard. Thee depend on us to buy their exported goods and without that they're really in the hurt locker. That's why they haven't been a lot more aggressive economically and over issues like Taiwan.
  3. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) Companies should be able to seek damages from the "victim" if the charges are found to be false. This would stop alot of people from claiming frivelous charges. Agreed. Hopefully the Bush Administration can get its tort reform pushed through and stop the jackpot like atmosphere that has been created in American courtrooms.
  4. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) fighting and too little scoring is not the problem, it is the little pussy europeans who dont hit anyone. people watch hockey because it was physical in the 80's. Hockey would be better off had the soviet union not collapsed Pussy Europeans like Alex Zhamnov. Watching him out on the ice made me want to vomit. I would have been better off at the Ice Capades. The day we traded Roenick for that soft ass slug was one of the saddest days in Chicago sports history.
  5. 15 years ago everyone was worried about Japan doing the same thing that China is doing now and they're in what their 10 straight year of recession or flat growth? China is having their moment in the sun now but they're gonna have their issues in the coming years.
  6. Position Players: Pods: A He is the leadoff hitter we've sorely lacked for some time now. His OBP is great, he delivers timely hits and his stealing capability totally messes with a pitchers head. People say he gets bad jumps on a lot of balls but despite that I still have no complaints about his defense Gooch: B+ Between him and Pods they carried the offense when the big boppers were all struggling. He's cooled off some but he's still capable of getting the clutch hit at any time. Defensively he's gotten it done without any issues. Carl: B+ Jurassic's production has been steady all season long so far and his versatility makes him valuable to the team. He can play DH to give Frank a rest or can play the outfield when needed. Frank: NA I really can't give Frank a grade cause he hasn't been back for very long but I give him MAJOR props though. His return provided a spark that got the offense back on track. Kong. A- On a pace to more or less equal his HR numbers from last season and his RBI's havent slipped either. His average could be better remember he was in a terrible slump for a good little while during May. Defensively he's doing just fine IMHO. Dye. B+ I did a double take when I saw he had just hit his 18th HR yesterday. I knew he had a good amount but I didn't think it was that many. On this pace he'd set a new career high. Like Kong he was in a terrible slump for the longest time but lately he's been on fire and helped spark a nice turnaround in the offense. Defensively he's as strong or better than Magg$ was out there and for about a fifth the price. Arow. A Power numbers aren't what they were last season but last time I looked he was hitting about .350-.370 ish with RISP. That's a lot more valuable to me than a meaningless solo shot here or there. Defensively I have no issues with him out there in CF. Crede. B- His power numbers are very decieving. Crede and his popups and Ks have killed more rallies this season than I care to remember. I will give him a lot of credit for his work defensively though. He's probably made up for about half of the rallies he's killed by saving runs with his defensive plays. Uribe. C Defensively he has done a fine job but I really have a problem with his offense, especially as of late. It seems every time he goes up there he just starts hacking away at everything as hard as he can hoping to maybe make contact. Me and some of my buds like to joke that he would swing at the ball as it was being thrown back to the pitcher. Exaggeration? Maybe. But not by much. AJP. A Cancer? I think not. His offense has been spotty at times but he brings so much more to this team than that. He has gotten this pitching staff into line. They trust and respect him and he's a big reason IMHO that guys like Garland and Cotts are having the years they are having. Ozuna. B+ He can play different positions, he can pinch run, he can deliver a clutch hit. All you want in a utility player. Timo. D Can't play defense, can't hit very well. Why is he still here? Widger. B So far as I can tell he calls a pretty good game and he's also provided some timely hitting in his limites action. Gload. Can't really give him a grade. PITCHERS: MB. A Stellar. Record would be better if the offense hadn't screwed him over a couple of times but no need to split hairs on that one. Garcia. A- Had a brief rough patch earlier on but he has been outstanding lately. Contreras. C- One of our 2 twin heart attacks. He'd probably be a lot better if he could ever learn to trust his fastball. He walks far too many batters and it's killing him. Additionally he can't ever seem to finish off anyone. Seems like he'll go up 0-2, 1-2 and wind up full and walking guys every time. That's why his pitch counts are always pushing 100 by the 6th inning every time. Duque. C Record is decieving. This guy is no better than Contereas. He walks too many batters and like his fellow Cuban he can't ever finish off batters when he does get em down in the count. Very frustrating to watch. Garland. A Stellar. Had a rough game or 2 but this is a totally different Jon Garland from last year. He has mastered the art of getting out of the big jam and that's why he has the record he does. Cotts. A Who kidnapped Cotts and replaced him with someone who can pitch? I dont know but I'm happy about it. He's been totally awesome in middle relief, which is where he should have been from the very beginning. Politte. A Stellar. He's been totally lights out all season long. BRAVO! Hermanson. A He was mediocre before he came here and nobody saw his scoreless innings streak coming. He came in here and established that he could close effectively and just in time too because Shingo clearly couldn't handle it anymore. Shingo. C Gotten a lot better as of late but he earned his derisive "Dingo" name. I still hold my breath when he goes in there. Viz. C Like Shingo he's gotten a lot better lately but he too can't stay away from the long ball. We all expected better of him and so far I've been dissappointed. Marte. B- His low ERA is decieving as he gives up a lot of inherited runners. This used to be the guy that you went to to get out of a jam late in the game but now its hard to trust him. I wonder exactly how long he's been hurt. Something tells me its been a lot longer than anyone knows about.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) Personally I want to know what statute she's trying to sue them under...did someone out there pass a law regarding interfering with the orbits of comets? Does she have some sort of property rights over the comet? Did the Comet sign some sort of document giving her control over the comet's lifespan? Something has to be done to do away with frivolus lawsuits like this. Yeah this is going to get dismissed post-haste but still it costs money for companies and various governments to defend against them.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 06:59 AM) Which is the only country to procecute people for their involvement in the illegal sales to Saddam? France. Russia.
  9. QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) for me: damaso marte jose contrareas I always expect the worst when they take the ball. Duque makes me nervous too when he goes out there. I find myself kinda hunkering down in my chair a bit when he takes the mound.
  10. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) I'm talking about Reagan's selling of WMD to Saddam which propped him up esp. in the war with Iran (despite Hussein's harboring of Abu Nidal) We had a lot more to fear from Iran then. They did, as I'm sure you're aware, sieze soverign U.S. proprety and take several dozen of our citizens hostage. It was in our interest to not have them win the war with Iraq.
  11. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) And before him, Reagan and Rumsfeld (not to mention US multinationals) Plus the US knew about many of the illicit oil sales -- so if they wanted to do something about that they could have. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/02/02/iraq.oil.smuggle/ Documents obtained by CNN reveal the United States knew about, and even condoned, embargo-breaking oil sales by Saddam Hussein's regime, and did so to shore up alliances with Iraq's neighbors. The oil trade with countries such as Turkey and Jordan appears to have been an open secret inside the U.S. government and the United Nations for years. The unclassified State Department documents sent to congressional committees with oversight of U.S. foreign policy divulge that the United States deemed such sales to be in the "national interest," even though they generated billions of dollars in unmonitored revenue for Saddam's regime. Tell me how oil sales during the Reagan Administration were illicit when the sanctions weren't placed on Iraq until 1990? Your timeline is a little off.
  12. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Jermaine Dye: .271, 18 HR, 44 RBI Lets not consider Dye to be a problem on this offense anymore. AGREED!!!
  13. EAT s*** FISH!!! Sox offense comes up big, ESPECIALLY DYE! Bravo Jermaine!!!! BMAC obviously isin't ready but thats another rant for another thread. Time to savor the win. GIMMIE A HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Cruddy on pace for a golden sombrero. He's looking very Jose Valentin-esque here.
  15. DYE = 6 RBI'S SO FAR TODAY. CAN YOU SAY MONSTER GAME?!?!? 8-5 NOW.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) Oh boy, a Kevin Walker sighting. Yup. This was seen on the pitchers rubber in the Sox Pen.
  17. That was merciful. BMAC needs to be on his way to Charlotte before this game is over.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) Our best chance of winning is getting Cotts, Cliff, and Dustin in this game as soon as possible. Our best chance to win this game is to keep scoring 2-3 runs an inning and try not to look back.
  19. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) BMac isn't ready. He's been rushed. Get his ass out of here before he gains negative confidence. With the way BMac is now, I believe that's attainable. Bring up Felix Diaz and don't fly him in 2 hours before his start either. I hoped it wouldn't come to this.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) We need 1 more piece; a backup first baseman, so that in late innings if Paulie gets on base we can afford to pinch run for him. Otherwise, we need to fill any holes created by injuries. That is all. Gload?
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) He is not locating well, nor is he using the changeup. He's throwing whatever Pierzynski is calling and hasn't shaken him off once. The location on his fastball is not good and the breaking ball location is worse. He is just a young green kid, our expectations are too high but here's the deal, this is the big leagues and this is a pennant race. He needs to settle in this next inning and try to give the team 6 innings and a lead. Even still, to my untrained eye he is not the answer for 2005. This is the sort of thing that happens when you have injuries. Some kid who probably isin't ready is gonna get the call and in that case we have to just hunker down and pray he doesn't get murdered too badly.
  22. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Why can't any of our prospects give us some consistent solid efforts?? Who was the last home grown prospect that panned out as a pitcher? Was it Buerhle?
  23. Just curious, what's Dye's career best for HR's? I just noticed that he had 18 on the season so far. I did a double take when I saw that cause I knew he had a decent amount but I didn't think it was that many.
