  1. A lot of people take the same attitude with the Slackhawks and since Reinsy wants to take the same tack with the Sox I can certainly see the logic of your post. Most Sox fans aren't at that point yet but with no end in sight to the mediocrity how far off can that be?
  2. Poor Krenzel. Getting his ass stomped week in and week out for nothing more than the derision of Chicago fans. Yeah he hasn't performed well but I think at least half of that is not his fault. I truly feel sorry for this guy.
  3. Same could be said for pro atheletes and rappers but thats just how supply and demand works.
  4. My buddy Charles Rangel LOL! One of 2 House of Representatives members who voted for bringing back the draft. Between him and Michael Moore you have every angle of stupid demagougic asshatness covered.
  5. Claims that most servicemembers are poor minorities are purely false. Just from personal experience most people I've known have been mostly middle class and white. You are correct that people with more choices in life are less likely to join the service though & that's just from applying the common sense test and no statistics. I think the reason that there are a lower percentage of black officers is that blacks are less likely to finish college.
  6. The store space is free cause the stores are all built and owned by the government. I guess the store has to kick in to help pay for power and the such but that isin't all that great an expense I would think. You mentioned military pay though, Military pay has shot up by a lot in the last 4 years. If I remember right we got a 7.5% pay hike in 2001, and like 4-5% a year since, save for the 2005 hike which is only 3.5% #$%&@#^@#$^!. One thing Id REALLY like to see is to have military pay exempted from Federal taxes. I dont pay any state tax from Illinois even though technically I'm still a resident because of such an exemption.
  7. 14.4 vs 20%? Overrepresented, yeah, sorta. Whats your point? Actually the majority of people I know from Chicago are not actually from Chicago but the burbs. Maybe you're on to something.
  8. I totally agree that NIMBY is a big problem when it comes to solving problems. Want more nuclear power plants, the most environmentally safe method of power generation? Ok, where to put the waste.......NIMBY. Lots of people talk about reducing consumption but a lot of them are the same ones that leave the AC on 65 in the summer and have the heat on at 80 in winter. Trust me Tex Id love for us to be able to tell the A-rabs to go to hell & look for some virgins but its not so simple. Right now there's nothing cost effective to replace oil with. Hydrogen? You need power to extract it. How do you make power...oil, coal, nuclear. BTW. The media lumped in money for hydrogen research with the rest of the pork barrel spending talked about in the last week. :rolly Electric Cars? Make one that can go more than 50 miles per all night charge and they'll sell like hotcakes. Looks to me like making hybrid cars is the best first step toward reducing oil dependence, make more of em and make them not look so damn wierd and they'll sell. Then we have to work on weaning ourselves off of our plastic habit...........
  9. Yeah but porn is not the same now as it was in the 16th century, Back then a woman would have been considered a slut if she raised her skirt above her knee.
  10. Even if they did the Johnson deal AND signed a Clement type pitcher to make a solid starting 5 and put away the roulette wheel for keeps........ Anyone who thinks this much will happen will cause me to bust out my Rick James picture and say that "Cocaine's a hell of a drug". .............they still would have to address the loss of Konerko's offensive production which would involve more money. The Johnson deal stinks.....period.
  11. I pretty much did it for him with my post that he quoted.
  12. We cant do that. They still have to win a couple more meaningless games to cement a mediocre draft pick that they'll waste on another s***ty running back. Call me a cynic but they do it all the time.
  13. Paul Konerko - 3 run bomb right before the rains came against the Flubbs. I know that wasn't the end of the game but it was still f***ing awesome. MJ .vs. Cleveland 1988. Nuff said.
  14. Actually AAFES ( Army Air Force Exchange Service ) is quite profitable without any subsidation from the government. The profits it generates are used to fund recreational and community activities throughout the 2 services. The Navy operates its own exchange service for itself and the Marine Corps in much the same manner. Minus the need to run up massive profits every year it can afford to provide somewhat cheaper prices than are commonly found in the private sector. The most tangible benefit, obviously, is the lack of sales tax. Technically military installations are not part of the states they reside in but are on "military reservations" which are federal land. Hence the lack of state sales taxes.
  15. I think Clement is a far more realistic choice and would leave us with a solid starting 5. MB Clement Garcia Contreras Garland To me the Johnson deal stinks. We'd lose PK and his offensive production and Garland. While I'm not a Garland cheerleader by any stretch of the imagination losing him would leave us with that same old hole in the 5th slot and we'd be playing 5th starter roulette all season long again.
  16. It amazes me the hypnotic power that Wal-Mart holds over rednecks and other assorted morons. No wonder they are so filthy stinking rich.
  17. Transportation infrastructure is maintained by the state DOT's. They are funded from the federal government but the states decide how to spend the money. The CTA........financed mostly by the state of ILL through the gas tax if I'm not mistaken. Power grid.......privately owned. Everytime they try to build new power plants their efforts are stalled in court by enviro-whackos who want us to return to riding bicycles to work and lighting candles for light in the house. Along the energy lines there are 2 reasons why fuel costs so much. Refining capacity to make distallates like heating oil, gasoline and the like is not near what it should be thanks to our enviro-whacko friends and their lawsuits and oil prices are driven up and down by speculators. I agree that we need to implement intelligence reform and thats gonna happen once they stop arguing with each other Congress and do it. Seaport and Airport security is being beefed up big time but we're playing catch-up big time after years and years of neglect. As for pork barrel spending it's nothing new. Stuff like this has been attached to big spending bills since George Washington was signing them and I find it really amusing that the media and the left SUDDENLY care about it and are making a big stink while the right has been complaining about it for years.
  18. David Terrell comes to mind here. That guy's dropped more passes in a quarter than he'll catch all season ( exaggerating I know but not by a lot ). If that isint bad enough he talks so much s*** to listen to him you'd think he was the next coming of Jerry Rice or something.
  19. Amtrack doesn't own any track, it piggybacks off of Union Pacific, BNSF and the like. Amtrack might work in a place like the northeast corridor but cross country Id much rather fly.
  20. Eliminating bill riders would be really, REALLY nice as it would force pork-barrel spending out into the open. Too bad that that'll never happen because thats how every single member of Congress brings home the bacon.
  21. I thought it was a nice thing to do for the troops and I posted as much & it got turned into a politicized mini-flamewar. Why dredge it up again? Hence the flamebait remark.
  22. I'm with the OT goal also and was trying to frame the argument along those lines but you did it for me.
  23. Last year your side called it a publicity stunt & now you're calling him out for not going. Please spare us the flamebait posts next time.
  24. I'm doing whatever shopping I need to do online. No lines, no hassle, no soccer moms that got turned into ferocious animals by the sight of a 10% off sale, no traffic. All that and my stuff gets brought to me. Nothing left to do but wrap it and thats easily done in an hour or 2.
