  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) Earlier you said it was bulls*** that throughout history, wars were fought by illigrants and the less advantaged. It is bulls***. It was bulls*** yesterday, today and will still be bulls*** tomorrow. When this nation goes to war there are young men and women from all walks of life who answer the call and go fight. This is true no matter what the moveon.orgs and the Michael Moore's will tell you.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) BTW, SS first posted that. Do you think the military is recruiting in Beverly Hills? Winnetka? Of the 8 people in my section, this is the socio-economic breakdown. 3 are from medium/large cities have parents who are really REALLY loaded. 4 are from small farming towns and their families do fairly well for themselves. 1 ( me ) grew up in a middle class neighborhood in Chicago. The military will recruit whoever wants to come in and wherever they can find them. Those who think that the military is nothing but a last resort for the poorest Americans or a dumping ground for the bottom of society's barrel is completely ignorant and doesn't know one damn thing about who we are and what we're made of. About the only people who actually believe that nonsense are leftist douchebags like Michael Moore, those who run moveon.org and the mindless sycophants who parrot their talking points word for word. Those assertions are every bit as insulting to us as they are wrong.
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) I'm thinking of joining. http://ronpaul.meetup.com/94/?gj=sj5 I don't know what this douche is doing with an "R" next to his name. He believes that the U.S. is to blame for 9/11 for chrissakes.
  4. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 10:48 AM) I have no idea what this really means for us, but for now I'd like to take an ignorant moment to thank Dubya. The President has very little to do with the rate of exchange our dollar fetches on the open market. Currency traders do.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) Do you think he is a God? No. I was thinking more along the lines of a race-baiting piece of s***.
  6. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) Classic some guy that works at the DMV puts up a chistmas decoration and the ACLU busts in there, tasers him, sues him and demands hate crime charges be leveled all in the name of separation of church and state.... oh, but a state funded muslim school is fine. lol Just another shining example of this leftist organizations hypocrisy. Just another example of how anything that fits their agenda to destroy Western Civilization is fine while anything that preserves it is bad and should be litigated out of existence.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 10:15 AM) If you were a middle eastern country how would you factor in the largest mega-power with nuclear weaspons and a track record of wiping governments off the map? I have a hard time equating "regime change" with the extermination of a whole nation of people.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) Then you'd best move to France, because right now, Europe is doing more to stop Iran than we are. I don't see how that's true when we're the ones applying the most pressure for sanctions against them at the U.N. Regardless, there will never be a nuclear armed Iran. Either Isreal, or the U.S. or both will bomb the ever living daylights out of them if it's found that their nukes are close to becoming operational.
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) Yikes. Moody's is now projecting a 7.7% average drop in home values nationally over the next few years. Drops will exceed 10% or more in 86 of the 379 major metros, according to their research. Some areas will see 25% drops or more. That's a lot. Good news: Chicago is not among the 100 areas with the biggest drops. If you look at the 100 list (bottom), Chicago isn't on it, and the bottom city (Memphis) is projected at 1.1%. So, I don't see the specific number, but I suppose that means Chicago is projected to do no worse than a 1% drop. In a perverse way I kinda hope that comes true. I may be in the market for a home in the Seattle area when I move to Ft. Lewis next year and that would help things greatly.
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) You are really stretching here. I don't think most Dems would want to be associated with Jesse or those comments, so he certainly isn't a shill for them. He represents a large fraction of the base of the Democrat party, black people, or at least he claims he does so it's not that much of a stretch at all.
  11. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) I'd rather have that than a bunch of meat heads running treating world affairs like it was a WWE match. I'll take the meat heads over a bunch of flower tossing leftist pussies who sing Koom Bah Ya and "Give peace a chance!" while a country that is on record as saying it wants to wipe nations off the map implements a crash program to develop nuclear weapons. /rolly
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) Yep, 'cause that's exactly what happens. Pssst - 9/11 was an inside job. Very well played. )
  13. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) He wants Obama to defend them because they are black and he is black. That is the same narrowminded bulls*** that has the radical Muslims up in arms, defending terrorists, because the are fellow Muslims. Flassox, those nooses were bad. very bad. but what they did wasn't any better. Catch the guys who hung the nooses and try them for the hate crimes the left loves so much. The black kids got caught. Kinda like in football, the one who retaliates always gets the penalty. Narrow minded bulls*** that is OH so typical of these so called black "leaders" who are nothing more than a bunch of leftist shills for the Democrat party. It doesn't matter how heinous the crime, there is no such thing as a guilty black person in their eyes.
  14. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) Hey Nuke, is there any way to tell where all of those weapons came from in your last post? Just wondering if you can look at something and say, "This was a British made such and such that came from Switzerland." (I'm just throwing some names of countries out there). Or, is it impossible to tell where they came from? It's REALLY difficult to figure out where this stuff came from. If it was crated and marked ( like so much stuff I found when I was there in 2003 ) then it would be that easy. This stuff, however, had no markings of any kind. Iraq was, and to a large extent still is, a massive weapons bazzar.
  15. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) This is similar to what some people have been saying Israel will do to Iran, if Isreal gets credible information and location of nuclear materials there. Not that I want to see another major conflict in that region, but, I'm glad Israel is keeping Syria in check on this one. SCORE!!! This is every bit as big as Osarik was back in 1981. You certainly can't say the Isrealies don't have balls.
  16. We had ourselves a big night here in sector tonight. Acting on a tip, we went into 2 separate houses and found 2 very large cache's of weapons and other ordnance. The first cache was found by my platoon. We went in and found a water tank that had a false bottom. Inside the bottom compartment we found several hundred rounds of ammunition, 2 submachine guns, 3 grenades, and several fuses for mortar rounds. One of our other platoons went into a house and found enough ordnance to invade Poland with. They found about a dozen AK's, 5 RPG rockets, 3 grenades, several fuses for mortars and about 5000 rounds of ammunition. We also took 4 insurgents into custody. Looks like someone was about to throw down against us or the locals and we stopped em cold with tonights raids. All in all I think we had a good night.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) Nuke, reading your post, what is the logical progression if the US troops keep seeing the Iraqis doing nothing to help themselves? i.e. sitting around watching MTV? Resentment? I can't quite phrase the question correctly. What tangible changes in behavior would we see in US forces 3 months, a year, or God forbid 4 years from now if the Iraqis continue down this path? I don't know. The behavior of U.S. forces wouldn't change much because we're always going to be professionals about it. I will say that there's already a great deal of resentment from us directed at the Iraqi security forces.
  18. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) I remember reading a statistic that said over 50% of the state budget will go towards paying state pensions by 2050. IIRC.. This system is flawed. Do not expect lawmakers to change the gravy train.. Why isn't there one pension system? Why can Beavers get a pension from CPD, then become an alderman, and get a city pension, then become a Cook Co. Board Member, and get a pension from the county. INSANE. How about George Ryan, he retired with four different pensions. Does anyone here think Cook County is efficient with 26000 employees? I remeber going to the county building to get a marriage license. There was a serpentine line with ropes. Nobody but me and my then fiancee in line. I walked up to the window to apply for the license and the woman told me I had to wait in line.( I was the only one there). After taking my application she told me to procede to another window to pay for the license. When i got to that window I had to wait for the woman to finish eating her food. As Beavers said, "The payroll is already cut to the bone". LMAO. Cut to the bone huh? LOL!! Unions, and the Democratic politicians who pander to them, are to blame for all of this. I have no sympathy when a governmental agency at any level cries poor and says they need money.
  19. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) OH BOY, so can I then... because I have my thermostat set on 80 every day, AND I work 5 minutes from home. I love following the Goracle! No. If you REALLY want to be like the "Goracle" then you'll go everywhere in a private jet that swallows more fuel in a 2 or 3 trips than my Cherokee does in a full year.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Just because it's a standard thing doesn't make it the right thing, nor does it mean that those folks actually deserve it or have actually earned it. Well, if you want top talent to stay then you have to pay them. Why would they want to stay on a sinking ship when they can quit and join a company that is actually doing well?
  21. The airline and auto industries served as a fine examples of what's to come for union members in the not too distant future. Simply put, companies and governmental agencies can no longer afford the lavish benefits given to its union workforces anymore. This will result in very painful reductions in benefits for those involved.
  22. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,296450,00.html It seems that nobody really gives a s*** in the world whether the islamo-fascist regime of Iran acquires nukes. That's the sentiment I got after reading that Germany is now refusing to go along with even economic sanctions against the criminal regime of Iran. Russia and China are only concerned about their own selfish economic interests so now it looks more and more likely that we're going to have to drop the hammer on Tehran. I say go for it. Better to rid ourselves of this problem now than in 5 years when they have the bomb and the means to deliver it.
  23. Wouldn't the title of this thread be more accurate if it read "Sherriff Joe Rode Again? Help me out here grammar nazis.
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 09:43 AM) Is that based on looking at the current Democrat field, or just an overall dislike of Dems? Both. Most of the people in the Democratic field make me sick to my stomach.
  25. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 09:35 AM) fixed, and I believe a rather important distinction. Three wives and a mistress. I am putting them on the same "Family Values" planet. He's certainly no champion of conservative values that's for sure. If he wins the nomination then I'll hold my nose and vote for him over ANY Democrat but I don't think he will win.......primarily because I don't think he can mobilize the religious right with his record.
