QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) Only 62 days until Christmas in Denver... http://www.beertown.org/events/gabf/index.htm Oh, thats the big one. They have to hold it in the middle of the f***ing playoffs?

QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) I'll throw in here since I happen to live in a haven for breweries that one of our local brewers at a place called Southern Sun just tapped a new IPA that is comparable to the Stone and Pizza Port IPAs. I think you'd be remissed if you didn't bring up the Rocky Mountain BrewFest, held in Estes Park, CO. I'm assuming that I missed that already, right?

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) Devil made me do it. Kid or KevHead, did you ever encounter a beer called Alimony Ale when it was still in production? It was a landmark beer from American micro pioneer Buffalo Bill Owens, who's brewery was as instrumental in the micro revolution as New Albion or Sierra Nevada or Anchor. It was way ahead of its time in that it was a massively high alpha hophead beer long before the days of the double IPA. At the time, only Bigfoot gave it a run for it's money in the bitterness category. The label had a great old Thomas Nast cartoon on it, and the beer's tagline was "bitterest beer in America," which explained why they called it Alimony Ale. Unfortunately, my beer drinking experience only extends back to 4 or 5 years ago. But from the sounds of it, I really missed out on the Alimony. Found the label you were talking about though.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) I'd have to say Arrogant Bastard is out of the running simply because it has SATAN on the label. Stone brews gorgeous stuff though. Funny you mentioned Arrogant Bastard. Satan or no satan, that stuff is heavenly. It was the drink of choice for my bro (Thomsonmi) and I after the games in Colorado over at the Falling Rock Tap House. http://www.fallingrocktaphouse.com/ Unfortunately, they didn't have the Double Bastard on tap during that series.

I guess you can interperet it in several ways. But my guess is that he's not complaining about playing time, but rather bashing himself for blowing a game in one of the few opportunities he gets to play.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan13 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) I agree, if we want to make and win in the playoffs, you need at least four solid, dependable pitchers, not three and a couple of maybes. Well, if history shows us anything, its that Burnett isn't really a solid, dependable pitcher. He's good, but he's kinda got the Contreras stigma of being good one start and bad the next. I mean, the guy has got a record under .500 in his career...and thats while playing on some damn good Florida teams. Can't remember who said it, but he was right: blame the situation. If Kenny can pull off a move that makes us better, then I will be the happiest guy here. Problem is, there really isn't an impact player on the market that is worth the asking price. Hell, the only two guys who are really available who I'd describe as "impact" players (Overbay and Wagner), nobody is really sure that they are available. There is no way for me to know what Kenny is thinking right now. All I know is that he's one of the most aggressive GM's in the league. He's also consistantly said over the years (and recently) that he's always looking to make this team better. If we don't land a guy at the deadline, I'm pretty sure that it won't be for a lack of trying.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:30 AM) What more is there to say? I'll believe it when every tv and radio station is confirming a DONE deal. I was just messing with ya. Actually, I agree with you.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) There will be a lot of pissed off fans if KW doesn't make a move. It's too early to tell if they're right or wrong....but with all the rumors that have been around lately, there will be a meltdown if we don't acquire anyone. I know I won't be pissed off. If people want us to make a move just to make a move, then whats the point? If Kenny doesn't see any moves that can make us better, then I'll trust his judgement. The fact of the matter is that there aren't many sellers out there. And the few that are, are probably asking for more than anybody would want to give up. I wish there was more on the market, but this is the reality. If we are able to pull off a move that helps us, great. If we can't, I'm sure we won't be alone when it comes to inactivity.

7-27-05 Game thread Sox @ KC
KevHead0881 replied to Tadahito Iguchi's topic in 2005 Season in Review
After seeing how he plays us, every time I see his stats at the end of the year I'm amazed he isn't batting .375 with 60 HR's and 180 RBI's. -

f*** all these rumors. I say we get Mike Sweeney, simply so we don't have to face him anymore. -

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) our need for someone who can contribute daily at 3B (not just the occasional clutch hit,0 far outweighs our need for a 1B this year. Give me Huff... Don't underestimate the importance of Crede's glove to this team. The guy is a possible gold glove candidate, and Huff is a below average 3rd baseman. As crazy as Crede makes me at the plate, he does just enough to justify keeping him in the line-up with his already steady fielding. This is not to mention that it would most likely cost less to get Overbay. If the asking price for Huff in previous years is any indication, it would be hard to pull off a trade for him without significantly hurting another area on the current team (most likely the bullpen). Figure that with the probability of Konerko being gone next year, we'd then have a reletively cheap 1st baseman for our future. Of course, this all depends on whether Overbay is indeed available, which none of us know. But I like Overbay enough to say that we should get him in the offseason if we can't land him by the trade deadline.

A Tourist from Scotland Looking For Advice

I'd tell him to go to Wrigley. After that long ass plane ride, it'll be a good place to sleep off his jet-lag. -
Tonight was a good thing............
KevHead0881 replied to Tadahito Iguchi's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well, the regulars have played a s***load of games together, so if they haven't "gelled" yet, they aren't going to. As far as getting rusty, I'd be more concerned of them getting tired. The regulars will still end the season playing a ton of games. A day off here and there can only do them good. Its not like they don't do anything on games they have off anyways. For the most part, they have the same pregame regimine as they do on games they start. I understand you're being concerned. I just find it hard to believe that giving your starters a game off once or twice a week would do much damage. -

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) Ozzie's got to play the bench players from time to time. He keeps the bench sharp and the regulars rested. I have no problem with him doing this. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Better to do it against the Royals too. With the 12 game lead, we can afford to throw our scrubs out there from time to time. Keeps the bench fresh, as well as the starters. Either way, I don't think Ozzie playing the B-team was the reason we lost last night. -
QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Seein burnett speaking very positive is just giving me feeling something getting done. I havent been able post much but I have good feeling like buerhle by monday something will be done Did I miss something?

I actually think that Overbay is at least as good as Huff. Not to mention that he'd probably cost less. Milwaukee's got Prince Fielder waiting in the wings, and I can see them being a lot more willing to trade Overbay then Tampa is to get rid of Huff. Every year, Huff's name seems to come up, and every year, the price tag appears to be too high for any team that is interested. I don't see Tampa taking Marte and McCarthy for Huff. But I could see Milwaukee taking the same for Overbay.
-
QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) Aubrey Huff would be a better pick up than Burnett or Schmidt IMO , Here's a question: would you give up the same amount for Huff as was proposed for Burnett (Marte & McCarthy)? And would that be enough in the minds of Tampa Bay? I say yes and no.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) The latest scoreboard update on the score said that they Sox wan't nothing to do with Lowell now. They still are working on a trade to acquire Burnett however. Right now the onlything that is preventing it is the longterm deal issue. KW doesn't want to make a trade for a rent-a-player. It also said that KW is scouting rboth Huff and Overbay- due to Frank's health issues. Is this a sign that Frank might be done for the year??? Regarding Burnett, I speculate that Kenny feels the way alot of us feel. A trade for Burnett ain't worth it if its only a rental. I think he took the same line of thought when he made the Garcia trade and that trade wouldn't have happened if Kenny wasn't confident that we'd sign him. The only thing that would justify bringing in Burnett as a rental would be a World Series ring. Anything short would make the trade a disaster. As for Huff or Overbay, I think we are scouting them for two reasons: 1. Lack of confidence in Frank's health, and 2. Lack of confidence in Pauly returning next year. They'd both be fine additions, although Overbay would probably be a lot cheaper.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) He just said that if the Sox win the world series, he will come to Chi-town to let the local media berate him. I think he's overestimating his celebrity. I doubt anyone would know who the f*** he is.

screw this "who do you want to win the WC" talk
KevHead0881 replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well, to Greg Hibbard's defense, this is a message board. As long as the content isn't in bad taste, I think he's entitled to start a thread like this, if he wants. If you don't like it, don't respond. If the thread is dumb enough, it will most likely fall to the bottom of the page.
