  1. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:36 PM) i know it is, but IAN SCOTT!!?????? WITH 2 MONTHS TIL A MEANINGFUL GAME??? wait, i forgot its the bears, they dont play any meaningful games............................... on a side not i am a die hard bears fan and by know way does my belittling of them have anything to do with me not being a true fan I'm with you man. I'd rather have them talking about the Sox. But the fact of the matter is, there is only one football team in town, and at least 95% of the sports fans in this town root for them. And in this town, even seemingly meaningless news is big news when it comes to the Bears. For me personally, I don't start caring about the Bears until the Sox games don't matter any more. Unfortunately for the Bears fan in me, this season it looks like the Bears will have to take a back seat until at least the middle of October.
  2. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) IS ANYONE AS SICK AS ME OF HEARING BEARS TALK ON THE RADIO!? ITS THE HEAT OF THE DEADLINE WITH A FIRST PLACE TEAM TALKING ABOUT ACQUIRING THE TOP STARTER ON THE MARKET, AND THESE ASSHOLES ON THE RADIO ARE TALKING ABOUT GODDAMN IAN SCOTT AND HOW GOOD OF A RUN STUFFER HE WILL BE. AHHHHH IM GETTING PISSED In 4 words: It's a Bears town.
  3. I'm gonna start a Bobby Jenks Drinking Game.
  4. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) hey dont knock ozuna. pablo is the man Where's Jabroni when you need him?
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) Well, that guy is an idiot. Uuum, he really has no right to say that the BoSox are better. 1.) We have a better record. 2.) We spilt the series. 3.) Our division is arguably a tougher division. 4.) We have a better record. 5.) Our defense is better. 6.) Our pitching is better. 7.) Other than Ortiz and Ramirez. They really have nobody offensively. I agree with most of this, but you might want to rethink #7. They do have a guy by the name of Johnny Damon. Varitek ain't bad either.
  6. All I know is that Contreras has troubles with the strike zone. That's usually not a very good sign for a closer. Think of how irritating it was watching Marte walk two guys in the 9th yesterday. I'd rather save Contreras for long relief.
  7. QUOTE(thelatinoheat_30 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) i don't know if i'm making too much out of it, but what does mckeon mean by he didn't think anything was bothering burnett? I'm pretty sure he was referring to how Burnett was handling the trade rumors. Basically saying that Burnett wasn't concerned with all the talk.
  8. Fact of the matter is, we haven't won anything yet. And until we at least win a playoff series, you'll continue to see articles like this. I believe that we're at least as good as the Red Sox, Angels, Yankees, etc. But I can't blame some people for having doubts. Either way, it would sure be nice if we can prove these guys wrong in the playoffs.
  9. Well, the Rogers column doesn't say that Contreras is all the sudden involved. He only mentioned the possibility of Florida wanting him included. Sounds like he was just speculating. I'd have to believe that a deal that would include both McCarthy and Contreras would be a deal breaker. But from the tone of this quote, it doesn't sound like Rogers knows for sure that Contreras is involved.
  10. Bobby f***in' Jenks! Did that guy look unhittable up there or what? I know he only faced 2 batters, but he looked impressive. Nothing like following up a 99 mph heater with a deadly hook. I'm starting to become a big fan.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) Yes, I agree. The $$ is almost always an issue with these trades. I've been very vocal about not giving up too much for Burnett, mostly cause I don't think he's that good. When I say he isn't that good, I mean he's not a guy who you'd give up what you'd trade for a front line starter. If the price comes down, I'm all for picking him up. He'd look nice in the back of the rotation. Like others have said, I suspect that Kenny is playing this the way he should. We are far from desperate, and if we are patient, we can possibly get him at a decent price. If we lose out on him because a team like Baltimore desperately throws everything and the kitchen sink to Florida, I'll be fine with that. Burnett certainly isn't worth a bidding war, at least in our position.

  13. Take it for what its worth, but on one of the recent scoreboard updates on WSCR, George Offman said that we are very much in the running again for A.J. Burnett. The big hangup with us is that, to no surprise, we want absolutely nothing to do with Mike Lowell and his fat ass contract. Once again, this is George Offman reporting this. Not sure what to believe anymore. If this has already been mentioned, then just ignore this post.
  14. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 04:47 PM) Well of course mathematically they have a chance, but the guy does nothing to show why it might probably happen. That is true. The guy who wrote it is actually Sox beat writer Scott Gregor. Not sure what the motive of this article was. If he wants us to root for both teams to make it to the series for the sake of Chicago, I think he's barking up the wrong tree. I think I speak for many when I say that I just want to win a World Series. I couldn't care less in what the Cubs do. "For the sake of a suffering city"? I'll settle for a suffering half of the city.
  15. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) i dont like the arguement that a players role should be determined by how much money they are paying him. it doesnt matter fi he makes 6 mil., he will make 6 mil if he starts, closes, hits, hands out gatorade in the dugout. put him where he gives you the best chance to win (im not necessarily sayin thats the bullpen btw), and dont let the players money dictate his role on teh team, let his capabilities. I agree with this, but I don't think its Jose's salary that would keep him from closing. The fact that he doesn't throw strikes and walks a lot of guys probably has a lot to do with it.
  16. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) Even before Brittle Boy Wood broke down (again) they had no chance. Who is the fkn writer and will he please pass the hydro? Well, I hate to say it, but they do have a chance. With Atlanta taking over the East, they'll be chasing Washington now, who are showing that they don't have a whole lot of staying power. I personally don't think they'll make it, but they certainly have a shot.
  17. Kerry Wood is hurt. That phrase has almost become cliche.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) 30 games over 500 yeah. So we lost 3 out of our last 5 series. The dance of the best record in baseball is here. We get it. Being happy with a 62-31 record is wrong. Being sarcastically told that it was twice got the point across. Having it done the third time is just annoying.
  19. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) The indians guy was much funnier. I was kinda hoping we'd bring Linda S. back. By the way, if you want some more Linda S. comedy, her work is littered all over the "from the cubicle" board on chicagosports.com today.
  20. QUOTE(Wolverine31 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:14 PM) GAME OVER!! The WHITE SUX lose!! Boy, I hope we keep this guy around.
  21. I was at peace with the loss. Why did they have to go and tease me? f***ing f***ers!!!
  22. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) How dare you not blame Ozzie... I'm sorry. I'm just a "blame the players" type of guy.
  23. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) Yes, Politte does deserve majority of the blame. However, Cotts layed a meatball for Young to kill which opened this game wide up. I blame Ozzie the most for even relieving Politte, our best reliever, in that situation. I blame Cotts, the guy who didn't get the job done.
  24. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Just an off day. It happens. On July 20th it might happen to us for only the 31st time... pretty damn good, IMO. Amen Steff. Of course, I don't like losing a series to the Tigers, but at 62-31, I ain't gonna lose any sleep over it. Help on offense would be welcome, but I'm willing to patiently wait for Kenny to make something happen.
  25. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Sometimes its going to be a slugfest, and we dont have the players to do that. Pure and simple Well, I wouldn't discount us. They are a good hitting team, but we have more HR's than them. I wouldn't like our chances in a slugfest, but I do think we have capable players if needed.
