QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 12:56 PM) Lebron and his pr people aren't completely brain dead like they were in 2010. If he wasn't seriously considering the Cavs, that would get squashed as soon as possible. Today is 4 years ago from the decision. If he were going to announce his return to Cleveland, today would be a good day, basically open with 4 days ago I made a mistake and I am returning home to my beloved Cleveland to make it right.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) Why not? Would you pay Beckham a 3rd year arbitration level contract next year ($7 million ish +)? I would not, barring a massive improvement in his performance in the 2nd half. I'd non-tender him this offseason, flat out dumping the guy then. Given that choice, if I were offered the equivalent of Michael Dubee, a guy with a 5% chance of ever making the bigs, that's an upgrade over what Beckham would give me next year, and I'd save $1.5 million to sweeten the deal. He will not be a White Sox next year, unless of course we sign him after non-tendering him, and that is pretty unlikely. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) Just to say again, I disagree. We should see in a matter of weeks. The guy is an above league average outfielder (last year and this year), especially when you adjust for his defensive effectiveness (not to mention ability to play all three outfield positions). Put up a 3 WAR a year ago (and 24th best WAR of all outfielders in 2013). This season he ranks 35th in WAR of all outfielders. Note: Remember, there are 90 starting outfielders, so this puts him in the top 3rd. -
Some reports out there that OKC thinks Pau is a long-shot, which would then mean Bulls might be the front-runner. If that is the case, there could be some semblance to the thoughts that Melo wants Pau over Mirotic. It would mean Nikolai can be used as a very attractive trade chip to entice Knicks into going with a S&T. Bulls could also just stash him one more year (buy-out be damn). Clearly Melo / Pau / Taj gives you a nice front court and some depth in the case of injury.

It is truly amazing how quiet everything has been. Sounds really like the two teams leaking stuff are the Cavs and Lakers. No surprise about Lakers cause they probably know they are a long-shot but want the appearance that they did better then everyone expected to help with the public perception battle. A lot of people think the Lakers org is falling apart with Jim Buss running the show (everyone knows her sister, Jeannie, also Phils' fiance is the brains of the operation and family and should be running). However, Lakers tend to have lose lips as the Buss's have never really been known for their discretions. I don't think Gilbert is either and I'm sure they want the really good PR too. Seems like Bulls and Knicks have been extremely quite and clearly Melo's camp has been radio silent, which means he is keeping this decision very close to his chest. Presume Lebron is doing the exact same thing. He isn't telling anyone which very well could mean there is some truth to Melo / LBJ talking, however, no one but those guys know it, cause everyone else is silent. Bulls are also a notoriously quiet organization and while Knicks haven't historically been, I think Phil tends to keep things very quiet. There was no talk about the Chandler deal and then voila...it happens. To be frank, I don't really think anyone knows, with exception to fact that someone must have told the Rockets and Mavs they were out. Oh and I really hope it is the Bulls (not just cause I want it) but so people could laugh at Broussard since he laughs at the mere mention of the Bulls / Melo.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) I agree that on paper you're not going to get a deal that makes you go "Wow I can't believe we got that guy for Tank!" But I do think it is very feasible to make an initially disappointing deal where this time next year you go "Wow I can't believe we got that guy for Tank!" Most dissapointing trade I think we made last year, was the trade for Rios. That was just a garbage return for a very serviceable player. I know some would disagree but that was truly pathetic. Rangers will get much more for him this year. -
QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) So I have interviewed with a large corporation and a very good opportunity. I have taken time off of work to Skype interview twice and was just moved on to the next stage and once again was asked to interview with "a few more people." I have a 12 day honeymoon at the end of this year and it would be devastating to keep requesting this time off of work to be in a quiet place for a Skype interview and end up not getting the job. Anyone else ever have this issue? Ugh, when to say when... I know it costs money, time, etc. but things like this are much easier when it's one long day of interviews but I guess that's just how it works. Do you have to take full days off? Could you maybe just put a few hours here and there, thus minimizing the time? Do you have flexibility to make it up by getting in earlier and making hours up?

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) Kevin Milligan (whoever that is): Richards is the easy choice. 10 wins, an ERA under 3.00, and over 110 Ks. Come on people! Technically it is a joke that Richards is in the final vote too.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 12:37 PM) Yeah I agree with what you are saying but I just think Viciedo = DH, he's a lost cause defensively. It's amateur s***, it's mental mistakes, bad reads, just crap out there. LF is the baseball version of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, how in the world do you f*** up a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Give a jar of peanut butter, a jar of jelly, and a butter knife to Dayan and the knife will be sticking through the sandwich like it's an hors d'oeuvre and the jelly is on top of the thing and there's no peanut butter because he forgot it. He'll just f*** it up. Now I like the bat and I think targeting a LH version of a Viciedo as a DH would work, or also going after a talented true SS, true CF or RF, or a RHSP. You need lots of ability in exchange for Viciedo to make it worth the gamble IMO. But you make the move because Viciedo is getting more expensive, BorASS is his agent, and contractually we are in a spot where if we invest PA in the guy until he finally gets it, then we'll have his agent threatening to go to free agency if we don't fork over big dollars. There are a lot of issues to navigate here with Tank. That's why you move him but *only* if you get real upside in return. I think that Maurer kid is a great example of the ability you will need in return. If Coop likes him and thinks he can do some work there, make the deal. Arms like that don't grow on trees and if they get it right then they become high quality players. You will not get a player as good as Dayan for Dayan if you trade him. I really would be shocked if the Sox got much value out of Dayan. Best case scenario you get someone elses damaged goods with the hope of turning them around. I suppose you could absorb a contract if you wanted as well. That is why I presume Viciedo will not be traded. Danks and Ramirez are the two guys worth anything, potentially, and with Danks it depends on what statistics you are focused on, however, the reputation he has around the league probably helps his value a bit and maybe, you get something decent for him, especially since with the advent of the 2nd wild card, there are far fewer sellers, thus the Sox would be negotiating from a position of strength (with a limited supply). Ramirez clearly is one of the premiere shortstops in the game, who is getting older, but for a contender with a whole, there is no one better to acquire, and contract is more then fair. Should be able to get something good for him (at least 1 top 50-100 prospect + another spec or two). Beck's won't get you much, maybe you could pull a non toolsy guy with production at higher levels or pull a raw talent. Might also be able to pull a potential bust but just look at his numbers, he isn't very good. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 11:40 AM) Wait the Cardinals were willing to trade Wacha for Peavy?? If any of those names came up in talks for Peavy and Hahn didn't make it....shakes head is all I can say. I presume those reports are eronious. Names might have been requested by the Sox, but I am going to guess St. Louis wasn't offering back.

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"
Chisoxfn replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What a waste of posts. Why would the Sox trade Quintana. He is a staple for this rotation signed and cost-controlled, much like Sale. They are part of the future. Stupidest thing we could do is move Q right now. No one is going to offer anything near the astronomic cost it would take for it to be a smart move for the franchise. -
QUOTE (juddling @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) WTF happen to you Falling Skies????? You were never GREAT tv but you were something new to watch over the summers.......not amymore.......first two episodes were terrible.....I think I'm done with you I got a feeling it will get good. The last ship is really solid. Haven't watched this weeks episode yet.

The question is, whether the guy who broke the Kidd story has connections to people close to Melo or the Bulls.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 12:40 AM) As Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle explained in late June, Aiken would become a free agent if he failed his physical and the Astros did not make an offer of at least 40 percent of his slot value (roughly $3.17MM). Clearly, based on Heyman’s report, Houston is still comfortable enough with Aiken’s elbow that this scenario is unlikely. However, the Astros would also lose the value of Aiken’s slot from their bonus pool should he elect not to sign, which would be problematic. The Astros were set to save about $1.4MM on Aiken’s original $6.5MM bonus, and a great deal of those savings were reserved for the $1.5MM bonus they’ve agreed to with fifth-rounder Jacob Nix – a bonus that is $1.13MM over slot. It is in Houston’s best interest to get some form of deal worked out, as losing Aiken’s slot would drop Houston’s overall pool to roughly $5.44MM, leaving them unable to officially sign Nix at that figure without incurring penalties in future drafts (the maximum penalty, which is enforced if a team exceeds its draft pool by more than 15 percent, is the forfeiture of a team’s next two first-round picks and a 100 percent luxury tax on the overage). Also, reports from the Chronicle's Drellich that Flores (Aiken's personal trainer) says Brady is "absolutely healthy." Interesting to see how this one ends up. Maybe Aiken's camp is going to ask for some kind of addendum where if he doesn't go down to TJ surgery within 6-10 years they will have to pay back the $1.5 million they're subtracting for the physical results. 6-10 years; seriously; Probably 30% of pitchers are going to have some form of surgery during a 6-10 year window. If not, higher. How about 1 year.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 05:35 PM) Interesting the new Astros regime involved in two "controversies" in the first round already....Appel selected after not signing with the Pirates, and now the Aiken situation. How is drafting Appel after he didn't sign a controversy for the Astros?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 10:56 PM) That's assuming Parsons' going rate is $10 million. I think it's going to be higher. Stephenson's market value is about what he actually provides for you on the court right now. You're not really overpaying for him. Stephenson may be an idiot, but you can't overlook his efficiency numbers last year for an offensively challenged Indiana team. Not only did he shoot the ball fairly well (including the 3), he averaged almost 5 assists per game. He can be your second ball handler. He also plays defense, so there's that. He is a better basketball player long term then Parsons. It isn't really close, imo. Much better skill-set, etc, and you can get him at a better price. He might be crazy though.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) No idea who this is, but a friend texted me this and thought I would share I wouldn't get too excited but hopefully they are right.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) I'd do it. I would really like how young our team is. You have Rose, Noah, and Taj who we could call the "old" guard (the latter are 29 and Rose gets the "old" designation for knees). Dunleavy is clearly a veteran presence. Then you have McDermott, Butler, Mirotic, Snell, and Parsons? I love that young, projectable core. *cough* Melo *cough*.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) Will be hilarious though if Parsons agrees to offer sheet on day 1 of free agency to mavs (rumored to be hot on his heels) which severely restricts their cap space immediately. Also depends on dumping Lin. Likely to happen if this does in fact stall out.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 04:19 PM) I do not think those two events are connected in any way. I agree; Rodon is too far down the road to let him signing impact a decision on Danks. I don't think you plan 2 years out on a guy that hasn't yet thrown a pitch. I'm sure some will say, he'll be starting next year, however, I don't think that is all that realistic of expectations.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) The thing is, at that point, Rios still had $20 million remaining on his contract, plus the option year (which probably won't be exercised). It's sort of like the White Sox trying to trade John Danks right now and expecting much more than Leury Garcia in return. What makes you think the Rangers are capable of getting more? They look stupid these days, trading Kinsler for Fielder...causing so many bad feelings with Michael Young's position change/s and eventual departure, letting Nelson Cruz go only to see him return with a vengeance with the Orioles...overvaluing their middle infield prospects like Profar and Odor and promptly seeing their value fall substantially. I bet you the Rangers get more for Rios.

Wow. Great news...presuming of course he is healthy and risk for reinjury / non 100% recovery is non-existent.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 01:05 PM) They were hiding wait times. How does firing administrators who were hiding wait times fix the actual problem, which is high wait times? If the problem is a lack of resources, shuffling management isn't actually going to fix it. A doctor can only see so many people a day, so if you don't have enough capacity, you need more doctors. Turning the VA into the voucher system just means we can keep the same levels of under-resourcing as we currently do, but now it's not directly the responsibility of a single, democratically accountable government agency but is instead the responsibility of the larger healthcare system itself. Yeah, probably shouldn't have fired/jailed the responsible execs at enron for cooking the books? That wouldn't fix the actual problem, which was the fact that it was a sham business. -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) The longer it drags the more it would seem that everything wont be status quo next year. Bosh could easily take the Rockets money and turn the off-season on its head. Would make for a great NBA season if Melo went to Chicago, Bron to Cleveland, and Bosh to Houston. Would create a few more extremely interesting teams to watch. In theory, Melo going to Lakers would be interesting too. Both would be more interesting then Knicks and create quite a few teams who could be contending for the title.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) Would the Cavs be crazy enough to trade Wiggins for Love? I don't really find that all that crazy of a move.
