QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:51 PM) Dude, it wasn't all Cutler's fault, everyone on offense was bad, I agree...what pisses me off is Cutler idiotic decisions, throwing into double coverage. He forces throws too much and most of them get picked off vs the Packers secondary, he's talented but he's also a bit of a moron. If there's nothing tthere, throw the f***ing ball away, don't throw a stupid INT and give GB great field position...the D did their job. Jay and the offense cost the Bears this game. Unfortunately, he gave up in the 2nd half. Literally gave up. It is the one problem I have with him. He lets his attitude get in the way and as a result he makes stupid mistakes. I don't know if Tice will be able to get through to him the way Martz could (even though it pissed him off and led to him getting fired). Cutler basically had 1 awful pick today. The rest of the time, I really didn't care. He had another 2 that could have been picked though and held onto the ball way too long late in the game.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:49 PM) Someone made a great point earlier. The Packers are just an awful match-up for the Bears. I was stunned at how many people in the media were expecting the Bears to win tonight. Like you said, the Bears will be fine. Really, a different game plan and better execution and this is an entirely different game. A poor 12 man on the field call (one I disagreed with), leads to 3. Then the fake field goal turns into a gift TD. Next you have Carimi with a dumbass penalty (Bears were finally using Forte/Bush and moving the ball) and were in a position to get a field goal. All just brutal things. At the same time, Bears proved one thing all night, GB couldn't stop the run to save their lives. Same thing they showed last week against San Fran. We should have been running all day until it finally opened up some lanes. Make them bring the safeties into the box and then go with a play action. This line can run block and doing all that would have opened a lot more up. There was also zero mis-directioanl plays. Tice just isn't an experienced play-caller so I expect growing pains in this area. Really, watching this game, I feel relatively confident about many things, only real concern is the oline and that has been the same concern since day 1. The biggest thing I saw was that our defense looked pretty freaking good.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:44 PM) cutler is the same f***ing arrogant prick douchebag he has been for the past 10 years. He is so f***ing full of himself it makes me sick. the guy is so supremely talented, if he had an ounce of humility he'd be a hall of famer, and yet he gets so little out of his talent. Yes the O line sucked, but the last 3-4 sacks were because he didnt get rid of the ball. he threw multiple times off his back foot tonight - same dumbs*** mistakes he has made his entire career...i His mechanics today were brutal. Probably because he was hearing footsteps every time he was in the pocket. Last week he had poor mechanics early (when he was getting hit) and then finally, once he got some time, the mechanics settled down. I don't know if Bates really knows a damn thing about passing mechanics. The dude might have been a total moron, the reality is, Shanny is/was an offensive guru.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:33 PM) Do people like Mayock as an announcer? Personally, I think he's outstanding.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:09 PM) At some point we need to stop making excuses for Cutler the way he plays vs GB Garbage game, but what the hell happens when you get hit like that.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) On replay, that INT is more on Bennett but still a bad decision to throw that ball Not at all. That was an easy first down pass if Bennett does what he's supposed to.

QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) Part of the problem is the game plan this coaching staff has against Green Bay. 49ers ran the ball all over Green Bay last week and we come out with the pass happy Martz offense I thought we got rid of last year. Run the freaking football and maybe their pass rush eases up a little bit. IT was awful. They should have protected Jay and the pass game early by rushing. They could have ran it all day long against GB. The game plan and execution offensively were just brutal. Capers panced Tice/Cutler.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) Yes, but Bears meltdown sports radio is the worst. Beras fans are some of the only fans more reactionary and more terrible then White Sox fans. And yes, people who think this team is bad or not a playoff team are overreacting. This is a relatively new offense with new players and one that was overly cocky. It got smacked in the mouth and this team really struggled in many areas. They were overly cocky in pass protection (vs. running the ball early, something they did successfully all night; the Packers literally couldn't stop the run). They also really did a piss poor job executing. The bright side for me is the defense played pretty damn good against the Packers tonight. Bears have a long time to think about this game, but more importantly, they have time for Forte to get healthy (I hope) and have time to really work on the details as I think they got away from that. I can't even grade Cutler until the game was out of hand. He had zero time to do anything. However, he has to learn to control his emotions because once he lost control, he had no chance of recovering and that is a problem he's got to deal with. Just an awful awful game by the Bears. I can't even cal it a great game by the Packers. Packers played solid, but this game had a lot more to do with the Bears flat out playing like garbage.

Its a lucky thing I didn't close this thread. This whole site has been terrible to be on the past couple of days. That said, I know the importance of venting frustrations and the Sox play vs. the Tigers has been nothing short of incredibly frustrating.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) No one has said he's an ace. His salary is irrelevant. He had major surgery. Most on this board, even the people complaining about him would have to admit he's exceeded their expectations. DA. You are the MVP of this thread!!!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 11:27 PM) Peavy is an OK pitcher, nothing special. He's worth the going rate for No. 3 starters, whatever those guys get on the open market. I guess to be fair he's a 2 or 3 starter. I happen to think he's more a 3. I'll be shocked if he gets huge money, but I guess Boston has the money to give him now. LOL. Peavy has been one of the 20 best starters in baseball. Do the math. He may not be an ace, but he is a #1 starter and to be frank is this teams 2nd best starter behind Sale and one of the best #2's in all of baseball.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Hudson's not running into something to tie the game there, which is what you need, as you're probably not getting 3 consecutive hits. Those other 3 have a chance. You don't let another AAA player make your last out. I have more problem with tonight, where we ran out two AAA relievers in big games (Septimo and Omogrosso), then the use of Liriano the day before. Neither of Septimo/Omogrosso have shown me much anything. On the flip side, Liriano is a proven starter with good stuff and past success. Albeit, he's clearly in a funk right now and has lost a lot of money over these past couple of weeks.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) Don Cooper continues to support Septimo and his 3-6, 2 homers and 5 walks allowed in high leverage situations this year (stat taken from WSI) I absolutely can't stand Septimo. He is awful. I've been saying it all year. Omogrosso doesn't look like a mlb reliever either. The wheels seem to be coming off, but the good news is, after today, the White Sox can finally put Detroit in the rear-view mirror for good!!!! But lets end this series with a White Sox win and then play winning baseball the rest of the way.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Not necessarily. He's changed his eye position by squaring around from where he's used to seeing the ball to a different spot. Especially in the case of a guy who is very used to seeing a pitch from a certain, and let's say "Unique" perspective, changing the eye location will have a big impact on whether or not he thinks its a strike. Whether it's a pitch he thought he wanted to bunt at and whether it was a pitch he'd have taken/swung at normally are 2 different things. That pitch was middle in, just below the waist, which actually happens to be in one of Youk's hot zones if you believe Yahoo. Heck, if the pitcher thoguht he was swinging, he probably wouldn't have thrown that pitch. You tend to have a better eye when bunting then you do when hitting. Longer time to react to the pitch when you are bunting vs. trying to get a hit.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 07:59 AM) I doubt they're trying to bunt a splitter in practice and then a 95 mph inside fastball. Lost in the debate about the bunt was him swinging at a terrible 0-2 pitch. You would figure that if he was a good bunter, he would have had at least one sac bunt in Boston by fluke. Hell, I don't know. I'm not the manager. I would have used O-Dog. But there could be more to it then we know.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 12:19 AM) You're not an ace. Oh, and I have no problem with Peavy tonight. He gave up 3 f***ing runs and struck out 9 guys among those 17 outs. The only person who deserves blame tonight is Robin Ventura. How about Youk and Wise for striking out in key situations. Konerko for going down weak in another key situation. The players had piss-poor execution. Liriano pitched like ass too. There is plenty of blame to go around. Robin deserves some too, but this game wasn't on any one person.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) Statistically, he's been a top 10-20 pitcher for most of this season in all of the majors. Theoretically, that makes him a #1. All the evidence presented in this thread would tell you another story. MLB RANKS WAR 8th (TIE) WHIP 14th ERA 19th How dare you bring facts and common sense to an argument. Some of you all are pathetic.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) Youk is 2-32 vs the Tigers in a White Sox jersey. Fastballs in, offspeed pitches low and away every single AB. Since his hot start, he hasn't exactly been dominant. You can clearly see he's aged and isn't exactly a great option starting at 3B next year. Hopefully the Sox can make a move and come up with something better a year from now. That was why I had zero problem bunting with him. I'd just have rather used Odog or someone else to do it. However, I'm not the manager and for all I know, Youk is an outstanding bunter in practice (and to be frank, practice and the game shouldn't be any different when it comes to bunting). Just cause he hasn't done it in a game, doesn't mean he hasn't done it thousands of times in practice.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) ERA 4.00 against division rival = choking. This would apply to Chris Sale as well. The Peavy Kool-Aid should be empty by now. He would have made a better Cub. Also momentum doesn't exist in Sox vocabulary. Wow, you guys really think this game of baseball is easy and it truly is pathetic. The Tigers have a great offense and Peavy did a solid job. It was a quality start.

GT: Sox vs. Tigers...The Final Countdown Continues

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) That is beside the point! He asked a guy that has basically never bunted to bunt, instead of just bringing in Hudson. Now I'm sure he wanted the element of surprise and all, but that is simply not worth asking someone who will fail to get the job done. You cannot explain that decision, which is why I'm praying for our sake it was Youk's. Inserting Liriano in that situation when you don't even trust him enough to start tomorrow is absolutely ludicrous. If you don't trust him to start, you don't trust him in that situation, for damn sure. He's struggled out of the gate in his last several starts. Why would this be any different? RV says it was his decision (and I fully agree with you, a stupid decision). And I think not using Liriano has more to do with Floyd's track record vs. Detroit then Liriano. Albeit, Liriano clearly isn't a front of the rotation pitcher and should not ever be confused for one given his s*** command. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 08:35 PM) Because I don't mind losing because we get beat on the field. Peavy got beat by two great hitters. What I don't find acceptable is when the manager makes absolutely inexplicable decisions. There is absolutely no defending Ventura tonight. I'd be more pissed if it was Septimo. That POS shouldn't be involved in any close games. Liriano might not be a regular reliever but he's one of our starters and up until a couple weeks ago was one of the Sox better starters since coming to Chicago. His stuff projects to the pen. He just flat out sucked. The other alternatives are Thorton (whose been overused and I've seen everyone b**** whenever he comes into the game and Crain, who too many have griped about). Fact is. No matter what, if 3 runs were given up, most of the board would have complained. That said Shack, I know you aren't an overreactive guy and I definitely respect your opinion. I think the blown bunt was the big mistake RV made (vs. Liriano). -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) Poor crowd. Peavy choked in a big game yet again. Hitting approach was awful. Everything went 0-2 on us tonight. Bullpen wasn't great either though when you use 100 different pitchers someone is bound to screw up. And Robin Ventura...Oh boy. Can't wait to read through the gamethread's thoughts on him. 6 innings, 3 runs is not choking. Especially given the fact that the Tigers have a good offense (and Peavy has been used like a whore in amsterdamn). It isn't dominating but it certainly isn't choking. How about the offense for failing to deliver and the bullpen for really s***ting the bed in the 8th (plus Youk/RV for the failed bunt).

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) Seriously? You have zero problem with it except Hudson should have been doing it? That's like saying you have no problem having sex with a man, except you'd prefer it to be with a woman... That is a problem, but some of you are acting like it was the dumbest thing ever to bunt. The truth was, it was dumb to have a guy that doesn't bunt bunt (and many of you made that same argument, just not all). O-Dog should have been out there. All that said, I still don't know RV made that decision. And I still find it pathetic that MLB players don't practice the bunt. Whether you do it in the game or not, it should be practiced all the time.
