To reiterate, we aren't looking for a hunky doory attitude. Just look back to the middle of May where I made a post to blow this team up. I don't believe in the 2009 White Sox, but it is how you handle your belief. Don't be a constant b**** fest of nothing, make suggestions, point out the flaws in an articulate and non-obsessive manner (ie, don't post it 100 times or 1000 times, cause it will get old, we get the drift).

I want to put it out there, Ozzie is handling Poreda good. He let him know what Poreda needs to do to stick and thats a good thing. If you were going to a new job (in this case the bigs), wouldn't you want to know what is expected of you. I mean, sure, it is relatively obvious that you need to produce, but Ozzie telling Poreda that he's here to help the club win, etc, etc, basically lets him know that a the organization is confident in you (thus they called you up) and b lets you know that you need to make a pretty immediate impact. I'm excited to see Poreda pitch and wish him the best of luck. He's got a great arm.

Thunder, this is probably the easiest spot to go to get a quick update on our selections www.twitter.com/futuresox

We'd also like to here from you guys as to things you think could be done to make the discussion better (whether it is stuff we as mods/admins can implement or if it is more a comment on what they like, dont' like, etc). We really are always striving to be better and I'd like to point out our coverage of the Minor League draft and our user of Twitter to keep everyone that wants to be on top of the Sox selections. We'll be rolling out that feature on the Soxtalk end as well to ensure those that want to receive twitter updates regarding any major White Sox news

As the owner of the site I've long stood out on the fact that Soxtalk is one of the best, most unique forums of its kind. Nowhere can you get more up to the second news on the White Sox on the web. Not from the Tribune, White Sox Official Site, or any other White Sox Forum. Soxtalk has tons of great opinions and inside connections, both at the major league and minor league level. We have a community filled with die-hard fans and while that is the biggest positive the site has to offer, it can also become the biggest negative as we've seen recently where the diehard fans are all having a difficult time handling the teams poor performance on the field. We reiterate that it is very important to continue to handle yourself in an appropriate manner when posting on Soxtalk. I also personally ask that if you don't have something nice to add, please stay out of the conversation. Whether your jumping in just to say oh that guy sucks or your an idiot, or you've already given your opinion on the subject um-teen times, try to stay out as that sort of discussion can railroad not just the specific topics discussion but other Sox related discussions going on that day. It isnt' easy to watch this team play right now, but our posters aren't making it any easier to follow Soxtalk, where we should be talking about new ways to make this team a winner or discussing what is going wrong, not just making short-sighted one liner type of posts. Bottom line, we ask each and every member of our great community to take a look at there posts and make themselves better, whether you have 70,000 posts or 10 posts. And remember, no one, and I mean no one on this sites knows everything so everyone is entitled to their opinion.

One more pick is left right? Than draft restarts tomorrow?
-
Seastrunk is giong back to school. No one is going to give him big money since he has limited upside, imo. If you give big money to a guy later in the draft it has to be someone with a lot of upside, imo.
-
I thought there was one guy the sox took that people said would be converted to catcher or had the possibility of moving to catcher.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) Hopefully they'll just sign them both and Williams...I'm being way too optimistic there, right? Probably but they easily have the money to do so. Problem is the Sox don't go well over slot because you have to basically talk to MLB who frowns upon it.
-
I wonder if the Sox took Goodwin with the intent to make a hard push on him if they can't get Thompson signed?
-
Dexter Carter and Luke Hudson are two RHP prospects to get excited about. I wouldn't say overly excited because they are both still in A ball, but they both have big league arms and stuff and are progressing quite nicely. I woudln't be shocked if both end up in Bham by seasons end (AA).

23rd round pick Goldy Simmons, RHP, SDSU Simmons has been previously drafted two different times, both in the 40's (Round wise) by the Braves and A's and has a power right handed arm. Profiles as a reliever. Player Profile: http://goaztecs.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/m...ns_goldy00.html

22nd round selection, Zach Davidson, was a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, which goes out to the nations finest collegiate shortstop. Hits for average and played good defense in college. Below is a link to some video of him hitting a double off a 94MPH fastball. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=...ASQQndMFl-9QHSw College Profile: http://www.davidsonwildcats.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=130

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) Okay, then, followup question: Which do you feel is more of an organizational need given the current farm system, draft picks, and ML team? A front of the rotation pitcher is a big need but so is an athletic outfielder. Since prep outfielders have a high probability of striking (albeit lower) and the fact that Goodwin is the better talent, I'll still say it is a bigger need. Either way these guys are 3-5 years away from contributing.

Some info I saw on Stephen Sauer while digging through our current year selections: Sauer has been pitching great in his first full season. He got a 72K bonus last year as our 10th round selection. -
Heres the details on our 21st round selection, Jared McDonald. He was drafted previously by the Chicago Cubs (out of JC). It should be noted that he did end up going to Arizona State. Sounds like a solid pickup and he's another guy we'll be able to watch in the college world series. Below is a link to his player profile: http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-base...ld_jared00.html

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) Directed at someone with a lot of knowledge of the farm and such: if you had to choose one of Williams and Goodwin to sign, which would you pick? Goodwin. Williams will be a bit easier sign, however, both will take at 300K and my guess is you'd have to go close to a M to get Goodwin to sign.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) Why wasn't he eligible last year? He wasn't a draft eligible sophmore, usually (unless you are old for your level) you aren't eligible at a four year college until your junior season. Juco players can be drafted at any time. BA on our 8th round pick

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) Lefthander Nate Reed emerged as Pennsylvania's top prep prospect heading into the 2006 draft thanks largely to his arm strength and projection. But as one scout put it, he's been Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in three years at Pittsburgh, and he was wildly inconsistent as a junior this spring, going 4-6, 6.21. On good days, Reed pitches downhill with an 89-92 mph fastball, flashes an average curveball and shows feel for a changeup. Other times, he works in the 86-88 range with a below-average curveball and struggles to get hitters out. As a 6-foot-3, 180-pound lefthander with arm strength, Reed could be drafted in the 10-to-12-round range, or he could slip and return to Pitt for his senior year. He profiles as a reliever in pro ball. This is a good value pick. If he would have been eligible to go last year, he would have went in the top 10 rounds but he had a lot of command issues this past season and dropped. Good arm for a lefty, solid secondary stuff. Nice value righ there.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) Sox pick LHP Nathan Reed from Pitt (JR) He's been a 3 year starter which is pretty sweet.

My first look might have been wrong. Shoemaker is apparently a very good hitter. Not the greatest defensive tools though so he'll have to hit the hell out of the ball.
-
Shoemaker is a senior outfielder that looks more like an organizationl type of guy.
-
Thompson has to sign, otherwise that is a bad pick cause there was a lot of talent there. You don't take guys that early without the intent to sign em. The later picks you can take your chance on and hope to hit on em. Considering they went cheap most places in the draft, they better sign Thompson and than one of Bane/Goodwin. If they can sign both, phenomenal. Another Indiana State guy for the Sox, Brady Shoemaker, OF. HeGawn, looking your direction again.

Sox picked RHP Phillip Negus from Wake Forest. Out of high school he was a top 300 prep per BA. Below is a writeup on him from 2005 (High School). He was considered a very good pitcher and was said to have a live arm. Not sure what his current FB velocity is, but he was rated as having the best changeup on the Wake Forest Deamon Deacons by Alan Simpson (Perfect Game).
