  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) I would assume that he'd want bonus money similar to a mid-late 1st round pick. I'd say close to $700-800k minimum to an upwards amount of 1.25 mil. Mid to late 1st rounders get a million plus. He will not sniff 7 figures or at least i wouldn't expect him to. He'll get very close to slot.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) With his talent, he can go to UCLA and be a top 15 pick in 4 years. Plus, his dad is an ex-athlete. This is kind of like the Kyle Long situation last year. I think he wants to play pro and it won't be an overslot bonus. The guy was a pretty early pick. Danks got paid top 3 round money. Thompson went in the top 3 rounds and will get exactly that. Long was a much different story as he was drafted far later so the Sox were going to have to go well above slot to sign him. They still got close, reportedly, and I guarantee you that Long is regretting his decision to pass up on the Sox offer. It sounds as if Thompson to the Sox is a relatively done deal.
  3. f***ing vagina Brian. You ruined the show, at least you didn't tell me who won. I'm going to watch it tonight with the little lady.
  4. A lot of people are talking about Thompson and saying he has more upside than our #1 pick.
  5. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) The one thing I don't see in Grady Sizemore comparison is the home runs. Grady has way more power than Danks2 probably will ever have. If you ask scouts, they could easily see Danks developing 30HR type of power. People expecte him to do it throughout college and he's starting to show a lot more power in the minors as he continues and continues to learn to drive the inside pitches with much more authority. However, it is relatively unlikely that he will actaully turn into a 30 HR hitter. That said, 20Hr's is not at all a bad estimate and it does make him relatively comparable to sizemore in the sense that your talking about good defense a high average, some power, etc. So basically we are saying his upside is that of Sizemore, doesn't mean he makes it. I'd put his downside as that of a Mark Kotsay, which again, isn't a bad thing.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) This is usually a key to MLB success. You need to watch it. At the time of the Chris Young trade I said I didn't mind the trade due to his high stirke out rate. The reply from someone was "well you must be worried about Josh Fields as well, he strikes out alot." My reply was I'm very concerned about his MLB ability for that very reason." And boy was I torched by people on this board. My opinion of high strike out rate position players still hasn't changed. I'm worried about Danks and his high strike out rate and whether he will make enough contact in the MLB. Let's wait and see if it gets better before we annoint him "grady Sizemore" status. He has a good swing and hits the ball very hard when he squares it up. I'd compare him offensively a bit to someone like Jim Edmonds. Not fully but in the sense that Edmonds always had a high strikeout rate but he also hit the ball very hard whenever he made contract and it showed as he had a ridiculous BAPIP most of is career. Danks has a good swing and a good eye and I think he will settle in as a guy who strikes out 80-110 times which is completely acceptable if he's drawing walks, hitting for a good average (he should), good power (tons of doubles and 15-20HR's), all while stealing bases and playing gold glove defense. But you are definately right, strikeout rates are something you most definately have to look at, but I also believe you have to factor in other things. In Fields case I never was much of a fan because I didn't feel he offered good defense, a great eye or anything else and I felt those strikeouts would hinder him from becoming much of a player at 3rd. Especially since he was much more hit or miss than a guy like Danks. In addition, Fields struck out a lot because he flat out couldn't catch up to a good fastball and that is major sign of a guy that won't make it.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 11:47 AM) Richard Roeper on twitter: Woman who just missed taking the doomed Flight 447 was killed in car crash. Sounds like a scene from "Final Destination." That is truly insane.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) It is in fact meteorological summer (June-July-August). Just not official summer. Besides, ITS f***ING MID JUNE!!! IT SHOULDN'T BE 60 +/-5 AND RAINING EVERY DAMN DAY!!! It is that way out here too. We've had very few summer days and its been cloudy and very Seattlish all of June.
  9. It might also be Lillibridge as he could bunt and do some little things. That said, Konerko ain't going to the DL right now.
  10. Probably Andy Phillips. He can play multiple positions and there isn't any harm to his development if he doesn't play much at all. Allen and Viciedo would be mistakes since Fields will be the starter, not to mention the only reason you call up either of the Sox top prospects is if you plan on letting them get a fair shot and unless Konerko is going to be out for an extended period of time they won't get that shot. I'm not a fan of sending a guy back and forth as I think it can be a total mind f***.
  11. I don't buy the allegations, but there might be other stuff out there that is true.
  12. Nope, but I'll make sure to watch out for any of our guys slated to play. We'll also make sure that before the CWS starts that we have a list of guys still playing and when there teams are scheduled to play in the CWS. Obviously I'm rooting for my Titans. Afterall, I am an Alumni. Turns out Chad Ford is also an alumni.
  13. Jake Fox is most likely a AAAA player. I wouldn't at all make a trade for Jenks without getting at least two upper echelon prospects in return. We have no need to move Jenks and he's paid just fine and is still very young and under our control for a bit longer. Vitters would have to be part of the trade and there is no way the Cubs deal him. Plus the rest of the Cubs system is pretty piss poor so they aren't a good partner, imo.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) We're shooting a bit higher with Danks2. His upside appears to be that of Grady Sizemore. Completely agree. He has flaws to his game but defensively he has all the abilities and tools to be a great defensive outfielder (whether in CF or in RF, cause he's got a f***ing cannon). And offensively again the tools are all there, although as everyone knows he has a high strike out rate. I actually like Danks and Viciedo more than Beckham although Beckham is the safest bet to have a good major league career, imo. And I like Beckham a lot too. I think all three have a shot at being perennial all stars. Flowers does too, although I don't like him as much as the others. Flowers more so because a guy that can hit and for power at the catcher position is rare and with such a weak group of catchers it isn't that tough to eventually be an all star.
  15. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) If I'm wrong... Who's balls do I have to kiss again? Also, Gage, you were dead on about how we should have drafted Crawford. Still K's a ton, but he's been hitting this year, and his ability to play SS could also translate to 3B, 2B, or even maybe even somewhere in the OF. Morel, while he seems like a decent player, he's just meh. I think it was rocks. Morel seems like maybe a Bill Mueller type of ball player. He was a big over-draft though, plain and simple, as was Kenny Jr.
  16. You got to love the type of athletes we got in those two selections. I know I do. It is also why I like Lauman, he's a very toolsy type of guy.
  17. If Danks and Floyd prove themselves, than with Buehlre there the Sox are in a pretty good position to still compete while retooling the offense. And if Richard or Poreda look like solid starters than it means the Sox are in a great spot. My guess is we see one of richard/Poreda slide to the pen (or traded) and the Sox bring in one more really good starter and than we'll have a sick rotation and can deal with some of the growing pains on the offensive side of the ball.
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) I think I'm passed that stage. I was there a few weeks ago. At this point for me, it's about watching Beckham every day, and now hoping to see Poreda get some innings. On top of it, we are getting to see how Getz and Anderson handle starting every day, Ramirez dealing with playing short, and seeing who is going to be in the team picture for next year. It's certainly bad baseball, but there are some interesting reasons to watch. Plus we get to see Danks and Floyd battle through and hopefully get themselves ontrack. Floyd appears to have turned the corner and I'm hoping for his 4th straight good outing. Hopefully danks turned the page yesterday
  19. Fullerton is going to start there Saturday starter in game one of the CWS, Noe Ramirez, a true freshman. If it pays off it means we'll have our ace, Daniel Renken (true sophmore) in game two.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) BTW, regarding Viciedo and for that matter Ramirez, according to Rick Hahn, the White Sox still hold the 6 year rights to these guys, its not a situation like some Japanese players where arbitration is agreed to be waived, so the clock on Viciedo isn't running quite as fast as maybe we thought. Yep and it really is a great situation since Viciedo is quite the talent. That said he's gotten better and better each month in Bham and I fully believe we'll see him up in September to get a cup of coffee. He is going to be an incredible hitter, the only thing that might prevent him from being a perennial all star might be his lack of plate discipline, but the guy flat out can rake and uses all fields. He's going to be a special one. I love Viciedo.
  21. QUOTE (Seymizzle @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) The quote sounds similar to what Maurice Gartell's coach said about him the year he was drafted. And he was another guy who really fell as a senior in college. He was supposed to have really solid tools all around but playing at a school not known for baseball really hurt him. Might be the case here as well, plus, a lot of college seniors will fall because they don't have the dazzle of a prep player or maybe a juco guy that still has a bit more "upside" so to speak.
  22. Burnside missed a season in college after undergoing surgery, but as a sophmore he was pretty damn good for Auburn, even gained the role of Friday night starter. Burnside was horrendous in his senior season (first year back from injury, only made 4 appearances his junior year as he was recovering). Prior to undergoing Tommy John, Burnside was climbing up draft boards and was looked at as a guy who might be able to move into the top 4-5 rounds of the draft. Below is a scouting report on a healthy Burnside, it was based upon his performance in a collegiate summer league, the Valley League.
  23. QUOTE (Seymizzle @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) That's a quote from the U. Maryland website. Seems like a guy that might be able to beat the odds and become a backup Ofer in the bigs.
