The Official 7/17 Sox Withdrawal Relief Game Thread vs. Baltimore
Expect Quentin in the dugout but he's going to get a day off before playing on Saturday.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
Andrew, there are talks that the Hornets might have to trade Chris Paul due to the economy. This thing is bad and the NBA is hurting, especially with a looming lockout.

That was the 1st inning velocity. He pretty much pitches in the 92-94 range and can top out at 95-96 so I'd say the report we got was relatively consistent. Although I have read a lot of places about how he's pitching into the mid 90's more often. You also don't know the speed of the gun. Sometimes guns are fast, sometimes they are slow.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 08:44 PM) He wanted 5/50, and maybe he's disrespected by what the Lakers offfered, and he has played in Miami before. Looks like Utah are going to match the Milsap offer, so if I were them, I'd get in the Odom sweepstakes ASAP. Disrespected or not you don't go and take a lot less money to play in Miama or anywhere else. Especially when the team that is offering you the most is also the NBA CHamps. I buy zero into the fact that Miami is going to get Odom, not if the Lakers did in fact offer what has been reported.

Argh...I need baseball. Thank goodness I'm going to a happy hour today to take my mind off of no Sox baseball.

Ya, but I don't think at any point in time did the Rays turn down a Jackson for Dye deal, which is what I think people are leading at.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) He also cost $10 million per year less or more, which is a large consideration these days. But that trade I speak of was also never offered. Money is a factor yes, but they did go out and sign Burrell. The Edwin Jackson stuff was more or less speculation by Soxtalk.

Rosenthal says we could be interested in Rios.
Shelby fits better in there time-line. That wouldn't be a bad trade for the Royals as Shelby has some upside, although he's stalled a bit this season.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) It was talked about here over the winter. I think that was rumored. If the Sox offered Dye and we didn't get Jackson than the Rays GM is the dumbest GM alive. Because what they got was a lot less than Jermaine Dye for Edwin Jackson.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) Does he mean the price for Halladay or David Price for him? I didnt think the Rays were connected at all with him.Your probably right, but if the Rays were serious that would be a potentially smart move to make them the world series favorites for these next two years. Losing Price would hurt though.

Halladay Superthread
Per Heyman's twitter. If Joba or Price are being dangled than forget about it. Sox couldn't touch that package. Even with Price having his fair share of struggles this season.

Why would Odom take less money than what the Lakers offered him. The Lakers offer was a year less and still had more guaranteed money than the Heat offer of 5 years. Bulls*** Odom signs for the MLE when the Lakers are offering more than that.

FS Interview With Dan Hudson
QUOTE (ObamaKnowsBest @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) Just out of a curiousity is this a phone interview or something done through email? Depends on the interviews we do. Some are done via email, some are done via phone. Typically depends on the players preference.

Iphone
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 09:33 AM) Well, you can get the "Everything 450" plan through Sprint, which gives you 450 anytime minutes, and free nights starting after 7 and free weekends, as well as everything else for $79.99. Also, just tell them you work for GM or Blockbuster (they don't verify) and you can get 20% off every month. Or Deloitte and get 25% (but than again I worked for Deloitte).

Iphone
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 06:53 AM) All internet based phones will have some sort of data charge for them, but the PRE (Sprint) charges less than AT&T does. I pay 55 a month for my sprint data plan and phone and have 750 minutes and unlimited everything data (including texts) plus the standard unlimited nights and weekends. Therefor, there is no f***ing way I'll ever get an iphone and basically pay double what I currently do.

7-15 Games
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 05:47 AM) Sorry, I was more referring to the comment about his OPS being average-heavy (may have quoted the wrong post). I do understand BABIP, though I also think it is sometimes over-used as an analytical tool. My overall point is, he seems to be a high-AVG hitter in general. Plus good hitters will have a higher BABIP. Why because they hit the ball harder more often. Dar. Just like really good pitchers will put up a lower batting average on balls in play (most often). Why because they have plus stuff (well this is in the case of the typical front of the rotation starters) and by having that plus stuff, less guys probably square em up.

It sounds like what I was hearing was off base. Carter is still in Kanny.

Not sure which of the twitter crew was twittering about Gartrell but I saw the tweets from his agent and have reached out to try and get an interview set-up. Thanks to whomever it was that was doing the direct tweets. PM me and you obviously have dibs on doing the interview

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Koufax/Drysdale, Spahn/Sain, Maddux/Glavine, Johnson/Schilling, Buehrle/Halladay . . . oh yeah that sounds about right. Pair the formidable Roy Halladay with a reliable, mid-3 ERA lefty and you have one of if not the greatest starting pitching duo in baseball history. WB!!!!

Dex Carter
I don't know cause a week ago I had heard the Sox still had some things they wanted him to work on down in Kanny. The plan from what I understand was for Dex to spend a while longer in Kanny, than the rest of the season in Winston Salem and than open next year in Bham. But stuff obviously changes. Thats why I'm so skeptical.
-
Dex Carter
So like I say, I'm not at all sure if this is in fact a reality. Its coming from one person and I'm trying to get some verification out of Winston Salem.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Where did you hear that by the way? Got an email from an old source of mine down in Kanny. The only source I ever had in Kanny, but he had seen how all of us were constantly blabbing about Dex deserving a promotion. Literally haven't talked to him in a year or so and didn't think he was at all involved with the org anymore. I'm trying to get confirmation.

I'm hearing rumors of a promotion. Can anyone confirm or deny for me?
