  1. That is where you have to hope that Kenny can somehow find a way to get a nice piece. That said, the even tougher part is you also have Danks slated for CF so its going to be interesting. Hopefully Getz hits down the stretch and it allows a top of the order of Getz/Beckham and than the Sox can find a way to pick up another outfielder or something. It isn't going to be easy. I really hope the Sox kids pan out in a hurry cause we got a nice looking rotation long-term.
  2. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Freddy Sanchez has an $8 million option for next year. You figure PK and AJ come off that year also. He would help us with the rest of this year and be apart of a competitive younger team next year. I'm not willing to pay Sanchez 8 million in expense of Getz. I think that would be a long-term mistake and 8M should go to an impact bat or fill a major need position (ie, leadoff spot). We have enough guys that can slide into the 2 spot, imo (Ramirez, Slayer, Getz).
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) BTW, I would say that Contreras needs to be traded last Saturday. I'd also like to see the Sox acquire a solid righty bullpen arm that will be here next year. I think Count gets dealt with Poreda sliding into the rotation and we'll see the Sox go with that the rest of the way. They'll evaluate there guys and than make a decision as what to do in the off-season (ie, if they feel that Clayton and Poreda are starters or if they need to find some, plus whether Gavin and Danks are front of the rotation guys). I also think you'll see guys like Link and Omogrosso get there opportunity at the big league club but the Sox might also make a deal or two for arms that they like which are raw and need to be honed. Basically some projects that have failed at the major league level. Bottom line I see the Sox shedding some payroll in an effort to create roster spots for current season development as well as get a bit of a prospect return (although I expect us to get very few upper echelon prospects, if any), and of course more financial flexibility to acquire an every day player for this year and beyond as well as go out and make some free agent or international signings.
  4. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Freddy Sanchez has an $8 million option for next year. You figure PK and AJ come off that year also. He would help us with the rest of this year and be apart of a competitive younger team next year. Exept that he's going to be 32. Than again Figgins, the guy I figure we'll sign next year, is also getting up there in age. If the Sox buy, I expect them to be buying a leadoff hitter (as Fathom pointed out).
  5. We at Soxtalk just want to inform you that over the next week or so you might notice ocassional downtime, outages or just all around general slowness when you are on the site. Don't be concerned, the issues are related to some work we will be doing on the site. We are in the beginning stages of a server change, which will put the site on a server with double the ram and a bit more processing speed. In addition we'll be ugprading our database software to the latest and greatest version as well as our forums to the newest version. Most of the outages will be minor but in about 5 days we'll likely have a 24-48 hour outage where the site is completely down as the DNS will have to change to point to our new machine. Just wanted to give you all an update of whats going on and its all part of our constant effort to make sure we provide the best place on the net to talk about our Sox!!!
  6. I think were sellers but that doesn't mean we don't buy in some areas. Whatever Kenny does I think it will be geared more towards the long-term future of the club than the short-term. Freddy Sanchez doesn't sound bad and he's a good hitter, but he's going to be 32 years old next year and I believe he's owed a good chunk of money. That said, I think the Sox will trade some players but at the same time target another player or two and no matter what they do I still expect them to "contend" for the AL Central because of the strong rotation.

If there is one thing KDub Jr can do its flat out fly. He really is an impressive athlete on the field, I just don't know if he can figure out that whole hitting thing.
  8. I don't care if the women kept coming back. That makes her incredibly stupid but that doesn't mean she deserves to get beaten. And if she hits him, than marshall should walk the f*** away and never talk to her again. Yes, it really is that simple.
  9. If I can hit well over .400 in softball than so could Mauer. In all seriousness I think Mauer has a shot. But its such an amazingly difficult feat. He is the best hitter in the majors since Gwynn though, imo and I won't be shocked when Mauer makes at least a run at it a couple different times in his career (much like TGwynn did).

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) Seriously, why is he even on this team? Send him to AAA or AA and make room for him in the pen or in the rotation. Then call him up. Plenty of teams have had success developing starting pitchers through the bullpen. You can even look at certain starters that had failed initially who didn't end up succeeding until after they had stints in the pen (Earvin Santana being a recent example).

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) If you look at what I'm saying, you'd see I actually agree with you -- almost 100%. I'm not saying Linebrink doesn't share fault, but so does Getz, etc...it was a team effort is my point. I'm saying DO NOT play the typical Soxtalk scapegoat game -- which is what everyone here seems content in doing. Understood. I just hate the blame game. Unless a guy has constantly stunk for an extended period of time. Even Wise, I don't think its fair to boo him, but I understand if people want to, but I can't at all even rationalize why he's on the roster. Getz made an error, sure, but he also had a good offensive game and quite frankly he's pretty solid defensively so its not as if its a typical thing out of him. And maybe Coop has told Ozzie that they need to get Linebrink lots of work to get him into a rhythm or something. Hell, I don't know. I just think you should be able to turn a 4 run lead over to almost anyone when its the 8th inning of a game. And the only big mistake managerial wise was ozzie leaving Liney to face Soto.
  12. QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) So do you suggest trading Thome,Konerko,Aj and JD for .50 on the dollar? Depends on what the Sox plans are. I have no problem moving Thome now. Move him to a contender if he wants and use the money on other things. For example, take this money and put it on top of the money saved next year and make some impact moves. JD I would try and negotiate an extension for, one that is financially better because I don't think we'll get a great trade offer. I figure Paulie will stay and I have no problem with that cause we need some veterans but at the same time if a team made a great offer, I don't mind moving him as well. I'd love to keep AJ as long as he's willing to work with Flowers. He'd remain the starter next year with Flowers getting maybe 40% of the starts there and the ocassional start at 1B/DH or something along those lines to ensure he gets at bats. Oh and I should add, I would fully expect the Sox to than lose multiple draft picks when they spend some of that money in the off-season on other players to help fill in whatever holes we have. For example, there is this 19 year old Cuban out there. I would trade two of Dye/Thome/Paulie/Dotel/Linebrink (one of which) if we could use the money we'd have spent on them for the rest of the season on the 19 year old Cuban or on one of the top International Free Agents. I think the Sox should be smart and realize they have a great opportunity here to get a lot better in a hurry while still contending because they are in a poor division. We have the rotation to be where we can retool the offense quite quickly and be a big time contender next year thanks to getting rid of some poor contracts, etc.
  13. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:14 PM) Looking at the entire season so far, not just one game, Getz's defense has been mediocre. I'd say a little above average but he's getting used to playing at the major league level. Getz has nice defensive tools too. He'll be much better than Iguchi and Ray Ray were, imo, long term defensively. Not as good offensively as Ray Ray but very solid.
  14. The Sox are sellers. If we win and move onto the playoffs it will be because our young players play good. The team isn't going to win the world series and we'll be contenders as long as our starters pitch decently but that doesn't mean we should pretend and make short sighted moves. Kenny needs to be smart and now is the time to move some guys and get our youngsters some experience and who knows we'll still be able to compete and maybe make the playoffs and in that case, it'll be great experience for our youngsters.
  15. Chisoxfn replied to WCSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox aren't adding pieces, they are going to sell a few guys and still contend because the division sucks. Poreda should be pitching though and we can hopefully win some games and these young guys can get used to the majors as well as acclimated to a playoff race in a sense (albeit its just a race to get clocked in the first round). I want to see more of Poreda but I think we'll see him used a bit more in the pen and than we'll swing Count/Dotel/Linebrink in deals. We'll see what the team does with Dye, Jenks, AJ and Thome.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) Apparently Linebrink is today's Soxtalk ™ scapegoat, not the guy who actually caused it all -- Chris Getz. Typical Soxtalk is all I'll say. Yes, it's ALL Linebrink's fault -- Getz didn't have anything to do with it...nothing at all. You know why Errors are called Errors cause they are a part of the f***ing game. My god you people are ridiculous. They didn't execute, cased closed. How about we blame Pujols for games the Cards lose because he has an 0fer or doesn't deliver in a key situation. Its baseball, you win some you lose some and if you look at every darn microcosm well than quite frankly every player in baseball sucks cause they fail more than they succeed. Seriously, some of you people clearly haven't played sports at a remotely high level or you'd understand. When I played in competitive team sports we didn't go f*** we lost cause of that schmoe. Now there were games where I'd blame myself but my teammates weren't pointing at me. No, if you made an error, you made an error, someone else had to pick it up for you and in this case they (Scott) didn't.
  17. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Soxtalk: Lollipop-edition. We don't work hard to create and operate a site like this to sit around and get spit on all the time. You my friend can go have fun somewhere else and don't let the door hit you on the ass.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Chisox, Thornton had basically 0 margin for error, if Thornton does the exact same job starting the 8th, he retires 1 batter, 1 batter gets on base, and retires the next 2. Ozzie puts his bullpen in positions to fail. It was a 4 run lead, there is nothing wrong with going with Linebrink to start the inning. Thornton did have less of a margin for error but bottom line he didn't execute either. Linebrink had an error, etc. I realize the excuses being thrown out there and everyone wants to blame Ozzie but bottom line, the team failed to execute. Sure, I'd have went to Thornton after two were put on but the time to pull Linebrink was after two were put on or following Lee's homer. Him staying in and pitching to Soto, that was the terrible part. Prior to that I can't call any of what he (Oz) did "terrible".
  19. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) Matty still got 3 outs, didn't he? He shouldn't even have been in the 9th, if Ozzie was doing his job. And technically Linebrink got 3 outs, but there was an error. Thornton failed just like Linebrink failed. Linebrinks failure was much more massive though.
  20. Seriously, I raelize Ozzie made some bad calls, but you do realize the beloved savior all of you guys wanted to put in, Thornton, also failed to get the job done. His job was more difficult than Linebrinks but he too failed. Bottom line you win as a team and lose as a team and the Sox didn't execute on bit. I personally don't care, the club isn't going anywhere and I'm watching games to see how the future of the organization does. I hope we win, but I hope its because of our young guys developing and while Getz had a less than stellar defensive game thats okay because he's starting to hit and figure stuff out and defensively he is darn good.
  21. Chisoxfn replied to WCSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox need to move him if they can. I'm on board rebuilding because I dont' think the current team is going anywhere and its time to get things setup so the next crop of players can. That doesn't mean you give everyone away but it does mean goes who don't fit into the long-term plans should go. I want to see more of Getz/Beckham/BA (even if I don't think he'll ever hit with his defense you need to see if he can) and of course Poreda/Richard/Danksy/Floyd. Plus get Flowers/Danks2/Brandon Allen/Omogrosso/Link opportunities.
  22. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) situation? Soriano up, 2 outs, runner on 2nd.
  23. Whats the situation?
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) Linebrink has looked awful for the last few weeks, and everything hit against him has been hard. There's no way in the world he should have been left in to face Soto. Oh, clearly Ozzie should have pulled him, but I can't blame Ozzie for starting Liney and regardless I fault Linebrink for not getting the job done. Ozzie should have went to the pen though after Liney started to suck.
  25. I still think the Sox should move there relievers and go at this with a chunk of youth. I want Dotel and Linebrinks contracts off the books (more so Liney's since his has another year on it and Dotel, well he's gone at the end of the year and has been very very valuable).
