Heres some info on Goodwin, a UNC committ, and a top 100 prospect. Oh and he was North Carolinas High School Baseball Player of the Year
-
Info on our 15th round prospect, Wagner, 2B, Belmont. http://belmontbruins.cstv.com/sports/m-bas...r_daniel00.html Pretty much sounds like the typical late round college pick. Solid player, maybe has the upside of a utility guy. More likely turns into an organizational guy.

A boras client too. What are the odds that this works out.
-
Oh f*** yes. f*** yes. I hope we plan on buying some of these guys. If we hit on a few of them, wowzers.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) Yeah, I get that. But at this point (after the 10th round), nobody cares who we draft. I sure as hell won't be yelling at the computer screen b/c of who we draft in the 13th round b/c I don't know who anyone is that's left in the draft. That passed long ago. I'd say people have a legitimate reason to be disappointed if we overdrafted guys in the early rounds (e.g. Anything before round 10). No, we don't have unlimited funds, but Thompson isn't a guy that's gonna get a $1M signing bonus. That's the kind of guy I wanted to see us take in the 4th-7th rounds. We didn't spend s*** this past offseason and are about to unload a ton of money this coming offseason. I think we could have afforded taking a guy like Scheppers, Bailey, etc and given them the money they want to sign. That's how you build a legit minor league system; not by overdrafting guys and taking average players. That's what the Red Sox, Angels, Dodgers, Yankees do and that's why they always have highly ranked systems and even if they don't seem like they're gonna fit in, then you can trade them b/c of their pedigree and usually can something pretty good in return. While we don't dominate a big market like those teams, I don't believe for 1 second we don't have the money to spend on these young guys. We may be Chicago's 2nd team, but we're still in better shape than a lot of teams like the Royals, who did go out and take some big money signs in Crow and Myers. Those two players' signing bonuses combined will be more than we spend on our first 5 picks. If they can do it, so can we. Just to point out, but Thompson is going to take a 6 figure bonus to sign. He was pretty much our only above slot selection (in terms of what it'll take to get him to go pro) of the first 7 or so rounds. We might have taken two-four guys today that would take above slot to sign, Dane being one of them. The others are Buch, Jones, and Ballinger. Jones because of a strong commit, Ballinger because he's a draft eligible sophmore with a chance to really improve his stock. I put Buch on the list, but he's a small college kid so I'd be surprised if it took above slot to get him to sign, despite the fact that he went far lower in the draft than expected. Either way I am a fan of all of the above selections.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) Dane reached 91 MPH on the scouting video, but also looks like he uses more arm than legs. Re-work his motion to use more legs, and let him develop, probably throw harder. Other report has him higher which is good. Definitely a tough sign, but I like the value here and the risk. Show him the $$. More on Dane It should be noted that this write-up was based upon his first non-rehab appearance.
-
Great selection. Hopefully we can get him sign. YOu sign him and the draft looks a lot better. Offer him low to mid 6 figures and see if he bites.

Bayne, RHP, Concordia (D3 I believe). School is actually located in Irvine where I live and is a christian private college that has a very good baseball program. He was a two way player in JC's. Was a 2007 selection of the Cincinatti Reds. Also the same JC that CJ Retherford (Sox farmhand) played for. One of the top Hawaiin Prospects out of high school, although that doesn't say a lot. Also, PG had him as the best out of state native hawaiin available in the draft.
-
Not bad, plus at this point, stuff is what it is. Seems to have a nice eye, maybe he pans out in the professional ranks.
-
Colligan doesn't sound bad. He's got some power potential and solid speed. Below are some excerts from an article I found His college page: http://www.aggieathletics.com/sports/m-bas...gan_kyle00.html He was heavily recruited out of high school. Chose the Aggies over Baylor and Notre Dame and would have been drafted last year but told teams he had zero interest in signing and wanted to come back for his senior year and get his degree. Batted leadoff for A&M.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) From BA on the 11th round pick... Good pick, he probably goes earlier in the draft a year from now. Hopefully we can get him inked.
-
QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Well I would for sure help you out in anyway possible, but those guys do not think so fond of me after I decided to quit, so an interview would probably be out of the question. I'll be able to put together a little scouting report after I get off work, but he's the definition of a baseball grinder. Haha, I guess we'll take care of a potential interview, you take care of the scouting report.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) MLB says his last name is Ciolli. Which is it? How I come up with the names I do, well, who the hell knows. We got a better shot at figuring out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop.
-
QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) Its Nick Cioli. I played with him at ISU before I decided I wanted to drink my scholarship away haha. Would you be interested in doing an interview for the site? Also, what can you tell us about him.

Another article on Pioli, who was the 2008 Alaskan Summer League player of the year. Sounds like we got ourselves a good baseball player here. Who knows if he makes it or not, but he should be able to rake short season ball. http://www.tribstar.com/ISU/local_story_214232837.html
-
http://goldpanners.com/blog/?p=307 Article on our 10th round selection. More about him playing in the Alaskan league than his baseball skills. Sounds like a pretty good pure average hitter.
-
f***....why isn't there any good tracker. BA is off by like 3 rounds and than I go to mlb's non flash version and its apparently off too.
-
So Dyson is the only one still available. Please find a way to take him Sox.
-
Actually maybe not...the feed I'm using isn't necessarily up to date.
-
Volz and Dyson are still on the board, correct? So is my boy Kris Davis.
-
Welcome aboard. Have a blast at the game!!!

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) Either were reaching on alot of these California kids (big possibility), or we are scouting it deeper and have better info on alot of the more unknown kids (not so likely). I'll say this, California is a good place to be scouting. We tend to draft a lot of guys out of here as well. And it is a breeding grounds for good baseball players. Texas and Florida as well.

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) Personally, I would have went with Tyler Skaggs or Everett Williams in the Comp A round. We probably could have gotten Phegley in the 3rd (maybe even the 4th). Phegley would have been long gone by the 3rd, most likely. Albeit a lot of catchers stayed on the boards for a while, at the same time, Phelgey wasn't a prep catcher so I think he'd have been gone sometime in the 2nd.

Hopps is older, but he wasn't converted to the mound until he was a sophmore in college and than missed most of the 2007 season due to injuries. Was healthy in 08 and 09 and pitched good. Huge build, a lot of raw potential and a big arm. Looks like a potential reliever. Awesome build, good raw stuff. Not overly excited, but nothing wrong with this pick.
