  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) That's probably fine with the McCain campaign, because Obama arguably has more of a judgement issue than an experience issue. Obama's section of Biden may have taken that issue off the table anyway. The Palin selection also erodes Obama's arguments that McCain has no identity with blue collar workers and that a McCain administration would be Bush, Part III. Palin ain't exactly Dick Cheney. McCain is basically trying to beat Obama at his own game. I'm not saying that it'll work, but his chances of winning are MUCH better today than they were last night. I think the jury's still out on that one.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) For those who asked, here is a link to watch the Obama speech. Danke, sir. I'll try to watch over the weekend.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) Link. So? What's wrong with that? The "evangelicals" will go ballistic? Screw them anyway.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) maybe I'm thinking of kap articles. I doubt it. I don't post any articles, I just ramble without factual basis.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) as much as people talk about FLA, it was Gore's loss in RI in 2000 that could've won him the election. Not to mention the Goracle couldn't even win his home state of Tennessee.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 07:21 AM) The melody is, not the lyrics though. I was watching the closing ceremonies of the Olympics and I saw them singing God Save the Queen, and I realized I'd never heard it before, but if I had I would've known that the melody of "My Country 'tis of Thee" comes straight from the British national anthem. Right, sorry... I was unclear.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) I would love to see ANY specifics from McCain on anything. The "Don't vote for Obama" routine is getting a bit old. How about a reason to "vote for me"? I agree, B.S.
  8. I was thinking the same thing, but for different reasons. They rent those buildings out so far in advance, and the hotels, etc. That's a logistical nightmare if they have to cancel and reschedule.
  9. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 07:22 AM) Given the ten minutes or so he gave personal responsibility, I actually thought you'd like the speech. I didn't get to watch it, I had to work late and then me and the fam went out to eat. Is it linked on his site or something or other? I'll watch it if someone can help me out.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 06:58 AM) I'm a stubborn traditionalist and personally would never want to change the national anthem, although I never considered the fact that is basically a song about war, and off the top of my head I can't think of any other country that makes direct references to war in their national anthem (although their could be). The old Soviet national anthem used to before they changed the lyrics to be more about the motherland (the newer one sounds a lot like America the Beautiful actually). Also I don't have a problem with God Bless America, or religious references for that matter, for me it's just the fact that it's simply not the national anthem. The "Star Spangled Banner" is actually an old "drinking song" in a time of war.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 01:36 AM) Do you know what attracts me to Obama and why I like him so much? It wasn't his line antagonizing McCain that he was ready to debate, it was his line about how politics don't make the man. Politics have gotten way too personal the past 8 years, with Rove marginalizing half of this country as unpatriotic. But the truth is I enjoy every poster on this board, alpha dog, mr genius, kap, so what if we disagree. There has been way too much emphasis that if you are x then you are unpatriotic or you are a fascist when that is not how we live. I'm hopeful in x years we can move to a much more central ground of understanding. I'll tell you - personally, you all can disagree with things but I would NEVER stoop so low and call you "unpatriotic". I will say that I think you're on the wrong side of opinion on Iraq - for example. But so what, that doesn't make you unpatriotic. The whole lapel thing (by the way, did RSO wear one last night? ) - I wouldn't say RSO is unpatriotic, but I'd say to make a big deal of something that is a symbol of what our country stands for is absurd. Just wear the damn thing and not make a big deal about NOT wearing it - again, it's a symbol, and people have died for that symbol. But it doesn't mean RSO's unpatriotic, it just means he's stubborn. I may totally disagree with where some of you get your deranged love for RSO, but hey, it's your choice, and I have to respect it, even if I think you're wrong.
  12. Usually we don't really care to go into all that, as you all well know, but LCR stepped away on his own accord. He'd be welcome back, if he'd want to be. But this thread was definitely hysterical.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 08:46 PM) It's a conspiracy. There's only about 400 people there. CGI. - Beijing - RSO's revenge...

    Soxtalk: A History

    well, I think everyone had to re-register because parts of the old board got nuke'd.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) TIFWIW UGH. What a dispicable ticket.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) If the Dems had this sort of run of weather related luck, wouldn't there be more than a few folks out there saying how those godless dems had pissed off a deity or two? Probably.

    The photoshop thread was a pretty funny one too.
  18. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) please elaborate I will... but right now, I need to get some work done.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) Rove On Hurricanes In August: "The Republicans Can't Seem To Get A Break" "The Republicans can't seem to get a break when it comes to August and when it comes to the weather," said Rove. Yea Carl. Nice analysis. Blame your administrations pathetic response to Katrina on... well... Katrina. Not your fault at all! Right, that's what he was saying, and I'm sure it's all not in context or anything.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) Have no health insurance? No Big Deal! McCain's Campaign the ER is a wonderful health care plan! Of course, the ER doesn't cover regular check-ups and preventative health care. But when you start having those sever headaches caused by undetected cancer, or you have the massive heart attack from high cholesterol.. no worries. Just go to the ER! If you understood why that was said the way it was said, you wouldn't mock it. The sad thing, it's truer then not (it's not completely true, but it has SOME merit).
  21. Funn,y it was mentioned in some blogs the day after the invasion - I think the LA Times had it. And just now they're (the Russians) saying this? Again,

    QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Yeah, Soxtalk has produced some classic threads. Going back off of the top of my head, some of my favorites include mutherf***ing, dips***ass.... by Heather back in 03 or 04 That bizzarre Ronald McDonald thread The Rally Crede thread incorgible's outing thread The thread from the Indians fan a couple of days before the 05 opener. I know I am missing some good ones too... I had forgotten about the ronald mcdonald thread, that was hilarious.
  23. 6.1 seems pretty strong to me, but what do I know? Edit: oh, so it was way out to sea. Nevermind.
  24. Haven't seen a thing, but someone just said there was a big earthquake in Vancouver? Weird thing is, a freind of mine is supposed to be there this week to buy a house. How weird is that?
  25. Here's the "uncompassionate" person who comes along and says, you built a f***ing city 30 feet below sea level and then wonder why it floods when a hurricane comes? New Orleans shouldn't even BE THERE anymore, but whatever.
