  1. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) On a side note: PODS back on th DL Glass boy does it again. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) You missed nothing. I said the same damn thing last week and I was laughed at. The offer to help Mark pack still stands. Doesn't seem so far fetched now, does it... Oh, sorry. Just laughing at you again.
  2. Uh huh. Except you KNOW that would blow up the already working overtime server.
  3. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) You apparently missed the point about him passing up 30 or 40 million. I completely agree with you. We offered him a contract, we extended our 3 year term to 4, we offered a limited no trade clause, i think we did very well, and i think it is a great deal for both sides, but it appears the whitesox management is too cheap. It appears they should just give MB what he wants. We did, except for a NTC. I can't remember what Zito's deal was, but in terms of $$ per year average, MB isn't too far behind with the offer on the table, so how is he leaving $30 - $40 Million on the table (except for length of contract)? I'm so confused.
  4. Romney is a piece of poo. This certainly hasn't changed my opinion of him.
  5. Mark will end up with a $14-16 million per year contract. Gee, we offered him one, supposedly. And that's not Zito money. So what point did I miss?
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) Good grief... not only was I crying from before the start of game 1... I think I was still a bit weapy at the parade. I'm with you. I don't think I will ever be over it. You don't say...? There were probably only 50,000,000 people who knew that, but, well, you know the rest.
  7. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 07:18 PM) I don't know, you may prove right, but Buster Olney and Ken Rosenthal have some pretty damn good sources around baseball. Maybe the Sox are fooling everyone, and trust me, I was in your camp just the other day saying that the NTC could not be it, but these reports have not been contradicted by a soul as of yet. There's two sides to this... *IF* the NTC is the only issue holding the contract up, then there was something MUCH bigger going to happen then we all realize anyway.
  8. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 07:10 PM) Here's what I don't get...MOST players would much rather waive their no-trade clause to be with a team that they can either, A) give them more money or B. actually wants them. While I understand the point of a NTC, they are more of a nice gesture than an actual stumbling block. That's most of the time, not all of the time. Want an example of what I mean? See: Jose Contreras. Limited NTCs are more damaging if you ask me. That way, you have already eliminated a percentage of the teams a player is willing to go to, but if you ask the player to waive it, they (or their agent) can always say, "Look, you've got x number of teams that we WILL go to, work those angles." All I'm saying is that the Sox should just bite the bullet and do it. Deal with the NTC later. I'm going to say it again. There's something more here. If it were as simple as the NTC, this would be done. That cannot be the only "block" to this deal. We all need to stop believing everything that's in the media.
  9. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) I wonder if these guys have anything to do with the Sox and their unwillingness to resign Buehrle: Fernandez, 79 wins with Sox, 28 wins after being traded at the age of 26 Alvarez, 67 wins with Sox, 35 wins after being traded at the age of 27 McDowell, 91 wins with Sox, 36 wins after being traded at the age of 28 Baldwin, 79 wins with Sox, 10 wins after being traded at the age of 29 These guys only had marginal success after leaving the Sox even though they all commanded larger contracts from their future teams. Are these guys next: Buehrle, 102 wins with Sox, 28 yrs old Garland, 88 wins with Sox, 27 yrs old Damn good post. That's the point, actually. Personally, I think MB will buck the trend. But, it sure gives you an idea what management is thinking.
  10. NSS: Hyperbole. I do, however, think that the extremes of both sides are being peddled. I need to get back to work... more later.
  11. http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/070630/books_madei....pf=family-home Interesting article/book review. If you think about it, what can we buy that's NOT made in China anymore?
  12. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) That's really not it at all. I don't talk down to anyone, I try to change misperceptions they have about the organization. My apologies if that comes off as rude. But I am tired of people firing off at the organization based on misperceptions they have. I don't blame the fanbase for this as much as I believe the Chicago journalists. If you check my record of posts on this forum, you will see that I have continually attacked the irresponsible journalism which occurs in this town far more than I have "talked down" to anyone. When I do, people tell me to ignore columnists such as Mariotti because I am contributing to his employer's bottom line. And yet, the net result is a large percentage of our fanbase continues to be misinformed about how the organization is run and the direction in which it is going. Then, when something like this Buehrle fiasco ensues, we see posts like "Reinsdorf is trying to build his retirement fund," or "the Sox are trying to spin this entire situation so they don't appear cheap." It's just simply not the case. Any diligent and accurate research into the way the organization has been run in the past 10-15 years will prove otherwise. And it just pains me to see fans frustrated or giving up on the organization because they have been mislead to believe the nonsense they have. So I try to correct that once in a while. We're definitely on the same page on this one. I'm not going to rehash some of the things that my perception has led me to regarding your posts. This sums up your thoughts pretty well. As an organization, I think the Sox have done pretty well - you never see me throwing out the blanket statements - JR and his group has been the best ownership group Chicago has seen, bar none, over its sports history. Have they made mistakes? Yep. Is the MB issue a "mistake"? Only time will tell. No matter what, I hope MB will be in a Sox uniform for years to come. I just don't think it is going to happen, and I think BOTH sides are playing the media like a fiddle. The truth, as always, is somewhere in the middle, and I also think that there's a lot more to this story then what's been leaked by both sides.
  13. I hope you're right, JD. Then I can have egg all over my face. iamshack, you're probably already firing away in response - but let's just cool it (all of us). It's silly to keep this going. I think we're all on the same page, and we're arguing over semantics. It's just annoying that it seems like the end of the road is near for MB. Casual fan, die hard, season ticket holder, whatever. I think all of us will hate to see that guy in another uniform if it happens.
  14. I'm clearly a bandwagon fan, because I don't live in or near Chicago. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) First of all, I wasn't asking you. Second of all, you've obviously misunderstood the entire point of the exercise. And by the way, speaking of mental gymnastics, you've been patting yourself on the back for the last 5 days now by claiming that you were correct in stating that these Buehrle negotiations were bs. And yet, you haven't made any explicit points or educated guesses about what the real story is, just that this whole thing is bs and the organization is trying to somehow fool the fanbase into thinking they have tried to sign Mark. It's very easy to claim something that is a longshot to happen is bs and that it won't happen, and then take credit for being correct in your original assertion as if you did anything other than take the side that had 75% of happening, and bucking the side that had 25% of happening. It's not very difficult. The insight you've given us is that this is the organization's effort to trick the fanbase and not look bad for not re-signing Mark. And yet, if they fail to re-sign Mark, the organization will look exponentially worse now than had Kenny just traded Mark a week ago when the Boston rumors were swirling. Why the organization would take the fanbase on some roller coaster ride all weekend which ends crashing and burning just makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. You're just so smart. I just can't keep up with you. I'm not even going to try. Go ahead, raise yourself above EVERYONE else on this board and keep talking down to the masses no matter what their opinions are, right or wrong, clear or not. You argue with everyone, no matter what their stance is, and I'm sick of it. If you want to carry on, that's your business. That was more my point, and now you have to go throwing out more s*** just to make yourself look better. For the record, I could care less if they sign Mark, or not - it's not about me or whether or not I was right or wrong. I hope they do, but I never saw it, and that's it. I am mocking the Sox, not anyone on this board or their opinion, unlike you. The last sentance of your post, I agree, and can respect. It's the other bantering that's getting old. Is that more clear for you?
  15. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) You sure as hell do imply that you are more knowledgable and that your opinion somehow matters more, Steff. And you know what, I absolutely believe that you do know more than most and I value your opinion more than most. I guess I just wish that you would not preface it so often in the fact that you have been a member of the "12k crowd" and just let your opinions rest on the fact that you are an intelligent, loyal, and dilligent fan of the team. Because while you certainly do understand this team and organization, there are plenty of people in that 12k crowd that don't know jack sh*t despite years and years of going to the Park. Wow, I think the post you quoted by Steff was pretty crystal clear, and you turn around and says that she implies she knows more then most? Well, it's because she does, she doesn't have to "imply it". You said it yourself later on in this post. Can we please stop with the mental gymnastics now? The semantics of this is starting to get silly.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) Buster Olney was on first take and basically said that every GM in the league are stunned at the White Sox unwillingness to sign Buehrle to the 4yr 56 million dollar deal. He claimed baseball insiders consider it a total bargain, especially considering the contract Zito had as well as other contracts that were given out to pitchers with far less success as Buehrle. Which is why I think the whole thing was bulls*** from the beginning.

Ah HA. Digital SLR... that's the feature. It basically allows the camera to act like it's a film camera but it's digital, or something or other. Not like you all care... but that's the feature.
  18. I read somewhere that the Dept of Homeland Security was hearing chatter of "something big" happening soon in the US. Who knows whether or not it's true?
  19. The history backs up JR in this case. That's partially why it's such a hard thing to watch for me. They (Sox mgmt) are almost always in the right on long term deals... but I like MB in a Sox uniform just like the rest of you. MB is the ultimate "feel good" story (drafted in the 38th round only to end up being an all-star), and I like the guy on our club. It's agonizing... yet, the facts say he's gawn.
  20. Yes. It's an LG phone with Verizon. I just ended up deciding that I really needed the email and IM capabilities and everything else I wouldn't need. The only issue I have at this point is trying to get it to sync - there's two different products and I'm almost certain that I don't have one or the other. The "email" program that Verizon has just started yesterday and the people at the store had just about no idea how it really worked. Today, I'm going to call and find out from the call center and hope that I have a better idea.

I can't remember for the life of me what the feature Mrs. Kap wanted, she's said it 100 times and I can't remember... (tuning out the wife is never a good thing, ). Of course, I can't ask... if I want to surprise her. I may at this point have to show her a "it's coming" receipt... I'm pretty sure that the feature she was thinking of jumped the camera into the next pricing range... but really some of the things that these cameras have looks good to me.
  22. As I contended on page three of this thread: there's a LOT more going on then the media has reported. This whole thing was bulls*** from the beginning and it was a giant smokescreen, IMO. My opinion never changed from day one of this season, and it still hasn't. MB will not pitch for the White Sox beyond this season. The only difference now is: it's more just a matter of when he's traded. KW's "slip-up" at Soxfest told us what to expect, and this "change of heart" crap that was talked about in the media last week was just a bunch of hooey to get Sox fans to think they were trying. I am really beginning to think that both sides were just posturing for the inevitable. I really now expect MB to make his last start at Comiskey (as a part of this ball club, anyway) tonight. Hey, if I'm wrong, I'll say so. Nothing in the past 10 days has told me anything different then what was said going into the season.
  23. I ended up getting a Envy - which I think will do everything I need it to. I accessed soxtalk on it this weekend and it came up pretty fast and just like it does on my blackberry service, so I can't complain.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) For Christmas, Brian got me the Panasonic DMC-FZ7. I researched it before telling him that was the one I wanted as it met the specs I wanted. We found it on Amazon for $259 - it was going for about $330-$350 on other sites. Here is a decent write up of it: http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/panasoni...iew/index.shtml Personally, I haven't bought any accesories for it, but I have looked around for them and found them with ease at decent prices. That looks pretty good, Queen! Question for you, though (I hope you see this soon...) - when you click the button to take a picture, how long does it take to reset until you can take another picture? Is it pretty quick? Also, when you go to take the picture, how long does the camera take to take the picture? Steff, is this more in line with what you have for a camera? I might have misunderstood what you were saying all the way up in the thread here. This seems like it's a decent camera?
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) After we released him because he "couldn't get loose" You knew that answer wasn't going to fly on this ballclub. Good riddance.
