  1. Anyone just see the three that this kid from OK-State hit? Talk about range.
  2. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 03:06 AM) Very classy Kenny. Did Kenny seriously say that? Can you post a link? Yikes... :banghead BTW, why, again, was the .217 BA thing brought up? I can't believe he's being bashed about that. The offense was CLEARLY better when he was in the lineup, scoring something like a full run more per game with him in the lineup. Damnit... I told myself I'd stop posting in this thread.
  3. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) What I think you fail to understand that I am just sitting here laughing while others are probably slamming their keyboards and in some cases maybe even headbutting their children because they are so angry. How many times do I have to say that Frank is the greatest Sox player ever. Just a damn shame he has to go out on such a sour note. Fair enough. I can end on that, and respect that. BTW -- I'm not headbutting my keyboard. I may punch lockers when certain people get traded, but I don't headbutt.
  4. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) Here's what Frank could have said: Oh, PLEASE don't even go the Jay Marrioti route of trying to invoke that it's been Frank's fault that the team hasn't won a Series in his time here. Please don't do that...
  5. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) What I would like to know is how people can defend anything Frank has said over the past month and then just totally say KW was wrong in everything he said. Who exactly are these people that have 'defended what Frank has said' (besides White Sox Josh, of course)? I've said multiple times that Frank shouldn't have said what he said. Same goes for Steff. Same goes for Greasy. Same goes for witesoxfan. Same goes for J4Life. Same goes for Jackie Hayes.
  6. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) Again, this was well known for the last couple years, hell, Bruce Levine made fun of the fact. Kenny brought it to everyone's attention again in the heat of the moment..... Bruce Levine made fun of the fact? What does that say of Bruce Levine? Sorry, but citing Bruce Levine lends no credence to anything in your argument.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:49 PM) That's one person. I'm sure there are mixed feelings on Frank as a person, and even Paul in a recent article kind of took a little jab at Frank. That's what I want to know more about. How Frank is regarded as a teammate. I certainly never heard Frank being called the clubhouse leader, yet, I've never really heard or seen him badmouthed. In fact, there's guys like Uribe (and Rowand, too, correct?), who have been helped immensely by Thomas, and seemed to have been pretty close friends.
  8. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) Anyone who actually gets pissed about a post on a message board needs to step away from the keyboard. Well, it's a message board. We can't tell if it's good natured ripping when you say "Frank Nation", or if you're serious. Obviously, I think you stirred up some emotion in saying that people are just blinded by Frank's on-field performance. Not me, of course, as I don't think I've referred to Frank's stats as part of my argument -- but others (rightly or wrongly).
  9. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) Oh no i can't state my opinion and say i support a team over a player because i disagree with you? Good stuff. I think he's more pissed about the "Frank Nation" quotes, which are pretty stupid in the first place. Of course, JMO.
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) Exactly. This OBVIOUSLY isn't just about the Southtown interview. Find me, what exactly Thomas said (in any interview) that deserves being called an idiot, and going public with the "dirty laundry". This quote gets to me the most (from KW): Seems very hypocritical to me.
  11. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) We're actually making valid points, not sitting here saying "frank sucks." That's a better argument that what most people are putting up here, which is "he hit the ball well in the mid 90's" I'm not "defending Frank", per se, in that context. I'm really not trying to take sides. I wish that Frank wouldn't have said anything after he had left. But, come on -- he's been with this same organization for 16 years, has been the best player to ever don the White Sox uni, and isn't leaving on his own terms. Did anyone expect a 'storybook' ending? Should you/we have expected one? I'm just pissed that KW took it to a whole new level by getting personal. He's supposed to be above these things, and he let his bad side get to him.
  12. I'd say it's definitely worth it. I live in the Chicago market, so I already get the Sox games as it is, but it's nice turning on MLB EI after a Sox 7:00 game, and being able to watch the Athletics play, or the Dodgers, or any one of the West Coast teams. Plus, you can usually catch the first couple innings of the Red Sox/Yankees games, as they start at 6:00 (Central) time. Then again, it probably depends on the person. I can watch baseball all day and all night long, and I love being able to pick and choose between one of five-ten games that night. It's also nice to keep track of certain players. For example, I try not to miss many of Felix Hernandez' starts, as, he's just a joy to watch. And I know this is a big bonus for the fantasy players (though I'm not one).
  13. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) I'm in Boston. Nobody here gives two s***s about the fact that the White Sox won the 2005 World Series (that's still fun to say ). Everybody I've heard from, besides some on this site, are happy with what KW said. Hmm... Totally the opposite for me, except for a few Cub fans who are blinded by their Sox hatred. I don't know what "everybody" you're talking about -- have these people ever heard of the word 'professionalism'? And, it goes both ways, BTW -- Frank isn't perfect in this. I've said it, and will keep saying it. But he's not the one who started getting personal -- that was the GM.
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) How many times did Bengie Molina say those things? Was it repeatedly? Frank Thomas started throwing the s***, KW finally answered back, and now Thomas is the bigger man because he's not going to respond. Frank didn't call anyone an idiot. And, through every article, he reitterated how much respect he still has for the organization, for the fans, and for the city. Kenny is supposed to be above all these things. IMO, and in the mind of fans of other teams, it doesn't reflect well.
  15. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) I love how ESPN fraims it that he took the High Road responce when his comments that SPARKED Williams were very LOW Road in bashing the organization. Thomas wasn't the one who threw around the personal attacks. That was KW, not Frank. Honestly, his comments weren't a whole lot different than from what Benjie Molina said of the Anahiem organization a month or two ago. I didn't see comments from Bill Stoneman calling him a selfish idiot... Good to see those comments today. Hopefully this thing will just die.
  16. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 03:59 AM) However, all of that aside, his behavior towards the organization is unnecessary and insulting. He is acting like a child. Insulting? Really? Part of me has a pride that is happy that Thomas has this much of an uproar just because he wanted to stay with this team. Apparently, he loved this team, this city, it's fans, a lot. And it hurts him to leave here. I'm not insulted by that at all. A little dissappointed in some of his comments, yes, but not insulted at all. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And, he wasn't part of the World Series run? Well, I'm not going to get into the hypothetical 'what ifs', but I'm sure glad that we had #35 for that month -- the team played great while he was here, and the offense received a much needed boost. I don't want to think what might have happened if he wasn't here for that time...
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 02:16 AM) It's as simple as it sounds. Playground rules. Frank started all the negative talk about the Sox, how he's still better than Thome and less of an injury risk. He keeps saying things about his "mistreatment," and KW kept his mouth shut the whole time. Frank started it. He kept prodding until KW broke. Some people see it this way, the rest of you don't. It's all a matter of opinion. LOL -- playground rules, huh? Not surprising, seeing as who posted it, but still funny.
  18. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 02:05 AM) And one thing that's really pissing me off is that it seems people are gonna side with Kenny no matter what because he helped bring us a World Series title and Frank never did. That's the most retarded logic I've ever heard. Half this board wanted Kenny fired when it looked like we might blow a 15 game lead. Ahh, so is the life of Soxtalk. You should know this by know, J4L. Remember back in April? Jermaine Dye was the worst player on the face of the planet. He was, Jermaine "Dead" (ahh, the cleverness of the nickname!). In 2004, Jon Garland was the worst pitcher ever. He should have been traded "for a bag of balls". Hell, we lose on Opening Day, it's over. Don't even watch the rest of the season.
  19. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 11:37 PM) I think that too. Frank's stuff reads like whining, sure, but he sure as hell doesn't call anyone an idiot. He's careful to say he still respects everyone involved, including Jerry. Btw, since when does Reinsdorf need KW to speak for him? Since, of course, that's what Kenny was most upset about... If Reinsdorf wants to go to the press about it, let's hear it from him. Frank: I think things should have been handled differently. Kenny: Frank's a f***ing idiot. Those look similar to you? Ozzie says that Frank never mentioned his name. But Frank did -- in mentioning Ozzie's similar statements when he left. So Kenny, is Ozzie a selfish idiot too? Great post, Jackie. Funny, where was all this, "He's a bad teammate" stuff when he came in here and was a breath of fresh air over Carl Everett (for that month)? That's fine that you don't care if he never hits another home run. I'll have a little more respect for the best player ever to don a White Sox uniform, even if he has some off the field issues. (Let me close by repeating, again, that Frank is no saint, and even getting into that interview with Arvia was, most likely, foolish.)
  20. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) Boz, would you have really had a problem with when Kenny saying " We are focused on 2006, and Frank isnt a part of it. Next question" Take the high road for once guys. We are the Champs. Lets set an example for the rest of the league, instead of having countless distractions pop up for no reason. ^^^^ Not saying Frank is innocent in all this -- far from it -- but it's ironic how, in the days of big paychecks and guys not staying loyal to their teams, Frank is being (and will be) blasted for wanting to stay with the only MLB team he's ever known. He certainly hasn't gone about saying it the right way (and again, I'll use the expression, far from it), but this is dissappointing to see it end this way. In 2008-'09, I want to be celebrating having a new statue in/around US Cellular, along with a new jersey number on the outfield wall. This isn't a good start to that dream...
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 04:42 AM) Grieve is better in the outfield? HE'S SLOWER THAN PAUL KONERKO! Ben Grieve is not a good player, and Borchard would fit this team's needs much better. Grieve can hit a little bit... And, quick, Grieve's a lefty, I believe. Throws righty, hits left.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 10:11 PM) And that's why, unless he can show he is a solid OF defender (which would seem to be a big jump for him), he is not useful to the Sox. But I do agree with Qwerty, he's a solid player offensively and defensively (at 1B), and he's likely to get on somewhere. He's useful if he can hit like he's done for the past couple of years... He'd probably be the best bat off the bench if he were to make the team.
  23. I agree with everything qwerty said. Of course, I'm also hoping that they only go with 11 pitchers, allowing them to take Borchard. You go with a bench of Widger / Ozuna / Mackowiak / Gload / Borchard, and it's probably a heckuva lot better than last year's, as you actually have some good (for bench players, at least) hitters, as well as all of the positions covered.
