Crede, a 35 homer hitter? If he got really, really hot and got lucky a bit, I could see him hitting 30. But he's hitting in one of the best hitters parks in all of baseball, and his career season high is only 22. He's also 27 -- already. He should be peaking within the next two years. Personally, I don't see that great of a peak.

Wait -- the NFC North isn't clinched yet? What does it go by, after W-L record? Divisional record, right? And, I can't imagine the Vikes having a better divisional record than us... (have the Bears even lost a divisional game yet?)

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:56 AM) It's all he has going for him. He better not. I really don't hate Orton. He did one helluva job for us. It's just -- Rex is the better QB. And who knows, Rex may break his ankle again, and we might need Orton yet again. But till that happens -- Rex is the guy.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:50 AM) Getz can't be traded for a while so I'm safe for a little bit atleast. Can I take a guess at your current sig? Liotta?

That's f'n beautiful...

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) You know those things where people get mad at you for being to optimistic? And you, that pessimist that you are. Those Sox sure proved you wrong, ehh?

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) Good point. I still think people here love Bajenaru way too much. I know it's a small sample size but everytime he pitches for us he gets shellacked. His stuff doesn't seem very impressive to me. He's certainly no Kevin Walker, ehh? Kolb isn't good. Even in his good year, he had 21 K's in 57 IP. His stuff isn't very good at all... Gil Meche seems like a possibility. Mariners fans seem to think he'd be a heckuva lot better in the bullpen (read his B-R page), and he might be a better option than a guy like Tracey. Oh, and any peak he's going to have will probably be in the next couple years (he's only 26).

Tom, what about Chris Getz as Barons starting 2B-man? I mean, he had a 10/35 K/BB ratio, which is absolutely sick, so it's pretty clear he's ready for high-A. And the Sox don't seem to have much hesitance skipping guys from Kanny to Birmingham.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) Well one team with a need for an innings eating starter, who has the money to re-sign Garland would be the LAAAAA Angels. Their top starter was injured, and they could really use a starter who could go over 200 innings. That could be Vaz, or Garland. And they have the money for both, and the prospects for us. I'm asking for Brandon Wood. I don't care if the LAAA GM hangs up on you, doesn't hurt to ask. If, of course, the scenario came up with a trade to the Halos...

Caught this snippet at the end of the organizational reports. Anyone have any more information on this kid? Sorry if there's any typos, I'm typing it myself, not cut-and-paste... Apparently, he's 24, so I probably shouldn't expect a whole lot, but why exactly did he go to the minors first, then to football? And then back to baseball? That seems to me to be an odd route...

Is this the whining and pouting thread? Cool, I'm down. I want my Chris Young back! And my Gio, too! And my guess is that for the first time, a prospect that KW traded this offseason will be very good -- be it Haigwood, Gio, or Young. Gosh, does it hurt losing Young...

QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) People on this board are worried about prospects and our payroll going up, turning us into the yankees! Whitesox fans are oppressed. We win the world series and are setting up for a repeat, and people are worried about some guy in double A who may be good in 2008. We obviously have been granted more money to spend. We should celebrate, but no we must worry, we must think small. We start thinking big like tejeda and god forbid we give up a prospect. This reminds me of my youth when I fell in love with players and looked at there pictures or baseball cards. Pathetic I'd like to note that neither Jim Thome nor Javy Vazquez are as sure a thing going into the 2006 season as Miggy Tejada is. I would've been all for sending a top prospect Baltimore's way in order to land Tejada. It makes me sad, losing a guy who went from low-A to double-A and didn't have a whole lot of trouble dominating the competition, in hitting something like 60 x-tra basehits in one of the best pitching parks in the minor leagues, all while playing one of the most important defensive positions at an extremely high level. That said, I'm (somewhat) reserving judgement on this trade. I fully expect KW to cash in big time if and when he trades Garland. My hope is that it's in a package to land Miguel Tejada; which, if I may dream for a moment, would give the White Sox a top five offense, to go along with a top five pitching staff and a top five defense.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Just look what Beane got for Mulder is all I have to say about that. If KW could get a Barton / Haren / Calero package for Garland, I'd kiss his feet.

QUOTE(captain video @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) OK.......call me crazy.....but with all the good moves Kenny keeps making, I'm getting a bit delirious........the Rangers need pitching.....how about Uribe and Garland to Texas for Mike Young and a reliever. He'd be a far better hitter from the 2 hole! And I like that .380+ OBP Michael Young is an awful defensive shortstop. That's why the Tejada thing makes sense. He's right up there with Uribe defensively, and he's such a star hitter -- pretty much, he's worth his contract. Garland + Uribe + Sweeney? I'd do it, don't know if the O's would.

Lots of people in sabremetric community like Vazquez to rebound. His K/9 and K/BB ratio's are spectacular, and he was really unlucky last year in that a bigger percentage of his flyballs went for homers than the average pitcher, and that he had a really bad defense. Being a flyball pitcher isn't necessarily a bad thing. Especially when you have a good-to-great defense behind you, which is exactly what Vazquez will have. I'm having visions of Vazquez repeating his 2003, 154 ERA+ season, and a whole year of New Jose. As for Garland... I think KW has his eyes on Tejada...

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) Jay Payton then goes..... Trade, maybe? New York could use a CFer who has lots of range. I'm sure there's a decent offer out there somewhere for an OFer with very good defense and a decent stick. He's making something like $4 million this year, so it's not a huge contract. I'm just thinking they want to keep the DH spot open for a guy like Thomas.

Nice deal for Oakland. Almost makes up for giving Loiaza three years... That's one helluva defensive OF there. Kotsay - Bradley - Swisher.

Anyone catch that Hawks overtime win?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) I watched about half of the Bears game, and half of the Hawks game. I really dont like the shootout. For me, it just throws out what each team did the last 65 min, and it comes down to 5 or 6 breakaways. Its exciting, but just really isnt justice to me when there is a good 1-1 game going on. I agree with this. The announcers on Sportscenter are always saying, "the most exciting event in hockey, the shootout". Hell no. A breakaway, when in the context of the game, is a very exciting play. But doing it to finish a game is like having a slam dunk contest in the NBA to decide the game. I'll take a heart-pounding, 5v5 OT over a shootout anyday. That's why playoff hockey is the best. -
The lefties that are available suck. Truthfully, if they're going for another reliever, I'd like to see them grab Octavio Dotel. He's coming off of a fairly serious injury, but he's always had filthy stuff -- 10.87 Ks/9 in his career. In fact, every year he's been in the majors (save 1999), he's had more K's than IP. He seems like a good candidate for a first year, incentive laden deal with a team option for a second year. He wouldn't have to close, either -- or, at least, he'd be the third option, if not way behind that. I'd much prefer Dotel to Vizcaino, or to some crappy lefthander who's only on the team 'cause he throws left-handed (cough:kevinwalker).

I know this is unrealistic, but if I could give ANY gift, it'd be guaranteed health for my granparents and mom, dad, and brother. I believe there's cancer on the mom's side of my family, with some other problems on my dad's side of the family (though not as serious -- high blood pressure, hernias), so I'd just ask that none of this afflicts any of my family members. And, if I could be selfish for a moment and ASK for a gift, it'd be to be successful in getting a substantial scholarship. If I could get something like $5-10K payed for my first year, I'd be very, very happy...

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) $3 million a year for Myers? Not even close: $2.4 million "isn't even close" to $3 million? One.... two... three... ???
-
Oh, yippee, let's pay $3 million bucks to a guy who'll barely pitch 40 innings in Mike Myers! Hooray! This move... meh. Whatever. I'm not a huge fan of it, but it won't keep me up at night. Speaking of the bullpen, I hope Baj gets a shot this year...

Alrighty, let's switch up some names here. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5148464 I'm wondering what Toronto is going to do with all it's 3B/1B types -- Hinske, Koskie, Overbay... Am I missing someone?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 04:52 AM) I think Bowden totally lucked out last year. He hasn't made any good moves since taking over and he's continually making moves that make me shake my head. Soriano is definately a bat (and they could use a bat) but they dealt a pretty good bat themselves and one that actually fit into there lineup (so really I see this as a wash for the Nats) unless they plan on moving Soriano. This is just a puzzling move by Bowden. Kind of like him offering up that big ass contract for Christian Guzman. Is the phrase 'teh suck' in the urban-dictionary? 'Cause if it is, Jim Bowden's picture should be right next to it...
