QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) Because...uh, he got paid for what he did last year, in which he had terrific numbers. Were they supposed to look into the crystal ball or something to see that he would be worse in those situations than his career would indicate? They paid him for clutch stats last year? All 68 ABs of his with RISP? It's a stupid reason to pay a guy because he's clutch. There has to be other reasons. 58 OPS+ doesn't equal seven figures.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:26 AM) Yep. He obviously hasn't been as good this year in those situations. Then why's he making a million bucks THIS year? Why's he still on THIS team, THIS year?
-
BTW -- why haven't Timo's clutch stats translated over to this year? Because he's sure been extremely bad in those 'clutch' situations this year.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:19 AM) Very scientific. Better than, "Oh, most of those came when he was on a team down by four in the ninth inning".
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:16 AM) What are his PH stats with RISP? I don't think you read one word he typed. I think you just sort of quoted for effect.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:13 AM) And you just stated the argument for why he shouldn't be an everyday player, but you've made no decent arguments about him as a first player off the bench to play once a week and pinch hit. HE hits in big situations. That's somebody I want off the bench. Not a good OBP guy. HE SUCKS AT PINCH HITTING, TOO!!!!!!
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:11 AM) But thats exactly my point. As I have stated numerous times he is useless as a leadoff hitter and regular player, but he is just fine as a first player off the bench. Wow, I'm glad you're not a GM. In his career as a PH, he's put up a .211/.245/.295 line. Definitely the player I want coming up as a PH.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:08 AM) LOL. Yah, lets just focus on the fact that he sucks with nobody on, and totally ignore than he is one of our best hitters with Runners on over the last 3 years. Because, man would I love him to get a single with 1 or 2 outs and nobody on instead of a single with bases loaded. Right. I sure would have liked for him to get a base hit ANY of the times he was up tonight. We would have scored another run in at least two more innings if he had gotten on before Carl Everett/Juan Uribe. But he didn't. And, since there was no RISP, it didn't matter -- to you. He could've been the one scoring, but no, 'cause he didn't get on base in the first place. Hard to get on-base when your OBP over the past two seasons is slipping below .275...

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) So what do you have to say about those three year splits with the most important situations in baseball? Three year splits? Ok, he's been good in your certain situations over the past three years. In your certain situations. Forget the fact that he's sucked the rest of the time, too, and has been terrible as a pinch hitter over his career, and has been an overall terrible player this year, too.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) I know you guys hate Timo, but cmon, you're looking a little foolish at this point. Pot, meet kettle.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) LOL. LOok at those numbers buddy. THOSE ARE THE EXACT SAME NUMBERS THAT YOU SPOUTED OFF AT THE BEGINNING OF ALL THIS. Anad now you are trying to talk about OBP. LOL. Nice try. LOL. I threw that right back in your face and now you try to change the subject. Like I said. Thanks for playing. Threw what back in my face? You said he's good in 'clutch' situations, and I gave you clutch situations. Now you want pinch hit numbers, and he sucks in those too? Let's see -- there's about five people backing me up, and one person backing you up -- yourself. Yet, the rest of us are wrong, and you're right.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) Exactly. Look at those three year splits. OBP is really important for pinch hitters trying to knock in runs with men on base. Right. Thanks for playing. By the way, you seem like a nice guy, so I don't mean to throw this in your face, but you just wouldn't let it alone, so I had to you put you in your place about it. Nothing personal. Put me in my place? LOL. Yep, OBP means nothing. Not important for pinch hitters? Ok, now I've heard it all. Keep rambling, though.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) Wow. For someone who spouts off numbers left and right, I didn't figure you'd be so ignorant. RISP .397 .419 .500 .919 RISP 2 out .412 .444 .500 .944 Men on , 2 out .296 .333 .352 .685 in 54 Abs Including numerous game winning or game saving plays. Three year splits Runners on .314 .338 .428 .766 in 428 ABs RISP .332 .359 .466 .825 in 277 ABs RISP with 2 out .323 .359 .468 .827 in 124 ABS. Anything else you'd like to say. 58 OPS+. .285 OBP. Not worth the money.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:49 AM) Tony, we never agree on anything. Would you agree with me that we've taken our proverbial foot off of the accelerator way too early? It starts at the top, and as much as Ozzie says we're not letting up, his actions sure seem like that of a manager who thinks we can coast the rest of the way. And judging by Hawk's statements tonight, the Griffey Jr. trades seem like a longshot. Hawk's thoughts have no bearing on what Williams is going to do. Where would he play? DH? LF? Rotate him and Everett? Sorry, Hawk, you make room for guys with .850 OPS'...

I Uribe's arm. And defense.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) It would be one thing if I just talked about last year, but I said both years. Why would we just analyze the year he hasn't done as well, just so you can bash another player and whine, whine whine He sucked last year, too.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Very rarely do PH numbers impress anybody. Many have said that it is incredibly difficult to pinch hit. Timo has a bunch of big hits, a couple game-winning. This is one situation where Hawk's "don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit it applies." "Tell me when you hit it." Ok, Timo, how about with RISP? .200/.276/.320 line. How about with RISP and two outs? .250/.308/.333. How about with men on and two outs? .192/.276/.269. Yep, certainly applies here.

This Idiot Makes Outs. Five, tonight.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:18 AM) You really dislike Timo. What's not to love about Timo? Time for Timo to spite me.
-
Finally, an ump gives Marte the outside edge. Wrong again, Fathom!
-
I don't think I've seen anyone better in the AL at going to his left than Juan Uribe.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) Where's all those people saying how great of a manager we have? How is Konerko not running out of the box Ozzie's fault? Yes, the lineup is 'the suck', but the players have done a real s***ty job of executing tonight.

Carlos Lee = Only one ever to stare down a long liner.

Jon Adkins time! Yaya!

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:56 AM) Timo can crush the ball all he wants, but he's still like 4 for his last 33. Sad thing is he'll be starting again tomorrow cause he's had success vs Radke in the past. And he doesn't see pitches. What is that, five pitches in two ABs? From your leadoff man?
