  1. Konerko is killing the ball right now. Come on, Pauly, straighten it out...
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 01:11 AM) I believe the White Sox also lit him up, back when they used to score runs. My f***ing goodness. Soft grounder hit to Alex Gonzalez, and he bobbles it. 4-3 Rays.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) I just think there are a lot of other players available, who aren't superstars, that could really add to this offense. ...Like who?
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:54 AM) I was going to mention this in one of the many threads on this site dealing with this. When Ozzie and KW say they're comfortable with what we have, that's a problem to me. It just seems like we're a little complacent. Instead of just going with what we have in order to try and make a run in the playoffs, I like the attitude a lot more of adding on to what you have in order to be a better team. Oh well, there's no point of b****ing about it too much. What do you except them to say? "Yeah, we suck offensively, and we're looking to add a bat, preferably a DH type." Be a little more realistic than that. You and I both know that Kenny Williams is doing anything to bring offensive help to this team...
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) I actually didn't see the pitch. Rather, I just saw the throw to 2nd base. Judging by the conversation on here, it sounded like a blown hit-and-run. It was a blown hit-and-run. But it really wasn't Iguchi's fault. The ball, like I said, hit about a foot in front of the plate. The last pitch, which he struck out on, however -- it was hittable, and he's had a chance to do some good here early on, and has failed twice.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) He blew the hit-and-run. Ozuna should have been out by 5 feet if the throw was good. What was he supposed to do, pull a pitching-wedge out of his ass to hit it? The ball hit a foot in front of the plate. But damnit... could've used a big hit there. Tadahito with two of the bigger AB's so far in this game, and has failed.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) This opens the door for Anton to make the team.. i love his shot, and I hope he makes it. Babchuk, by most accounts, had a pretty poor season at the Norfolk. At least, that's what most of the people who see the Norfolk games said at BHZ.
  8. I'm not quite sure I get your point, SS71. Yes, Carrillo is doing well so far, but you can't really say that Broadway has done worse -- he hasn't gotten the same chance that Carrillo has gotten. I don't think the plan for Gio was to be up at Birmingham this year, anyways. He's only 19. I'd like to see him dominate high-A a little more. But, as for our pitching prospects as a whole, it's better than it's been in a while. You got McCarthy at AAA who's been awesome in the second half, Haigwood who's having a brilliant season at AA, Haeger and Tracey who are doing decently at Birmingham, and then Liotta, Gio, and Broadway at high-A. Now, obviously none of them are locks, but that's seven good prospects are having good-to-great-to-spectacular seasons this year.
  9. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) how is Lance Broadway doing anyways? About as well, if not better, than Carrillo did in his stint at high-A. It's just, San Diego seems to want Carrillo on a fast track to the majors. They need arms. We, OTOH, don't. If we drafted Carrillo, I'd venture to say he'd still be with the big club.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 05:40 AM) No no no. I understand that some of you tried to help but it never should have gotten to that point in the 1st place. I stated my opinion to the original post and got attacked for it. Why? I'd love to know. Why? I never said I knew everything and in that post, I never told Tadahito15 what to do. I stated my opinion and made sure to add that in the end it was his decision not ours. But of course, instead of just responding positively, he had to question my opnion because of my age. Why? Was it necessary? Dude, we'd take you seriously, but you're what, five, six years old? Before you get all pissy, I'm just kidding. Pauly, speaking of parties and having a good time, I gotta go to one before school starts. I need to... uhh... "cleanse" myself... rather... heal the pain that is reading Jane Eyre.
  11. Who's going to take the third linebacker spot? I haven't payed nearly as much attention to the Bears in year's past, and that's odd, 'cause I'll be at the game on Friday. Are Joe Odom (sp?) and Hunter Hillenmyer going for the spot? Oh, and Chad Hutchinson may not be good on the football field, but his wife? DAMN!
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 22, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) We all know Anderson is due, and I think he take Timo's spot in the offseason, but we cant assume that AA players should be brought up right away. Maybe in 2007 they will be ready to step in and start, but right now, next year is a stretch. Replacing Timo's spot? Who are you kidding... :banghead Anderson will start somewhere next year. I happen to think (this all my opinion) that he'll be traded in the off-season. Milwaukee might be able in need for an outfielder, and of course, Overbay is probably going to get moved. Lots of possibilities this offseason...
  13. The things that I dislike about Hawk are... a.)The complaining. And, IMO, it's been worse this year than ever before. I can understand it once in a while, it's human reaction, but some of the pitches where he says "where was that pitch?" are like a foot off the plate. b.)The whole Griffey thing was pretty embarrassing. If he doesn't think Griffey has a place on this team, stop reading emails w/r/t KGJ. c.)Some of his Billy Beane tirades of earlier in the year and of years past were very annoying. and, finally, I don't like some of the subtle things he does during a broadcast. Like, today, in the latter part of the game, DJ was doing the play-by-play, and Crede makes the diving catch, and out of nowhere, Hawks goes, "YES!". I dunno, I don't like that very much. And, I would mute him and put on Rooney and Farmer, but the radio broadcast is ahead of the HDTV broadcast by about six-seven seconds.
  14. I, too, wonder why Matt Smith is still on the 40-man. Was he a high draft pick or something? I doubt Rogo gets a shot this year, I'm pretty sure they'd just give Gload a call, first. I'd probably go with Harris/Gload/B-Mac/Baj, and maybe even Munoz and/or Diaz.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) Oh boy, Marte? What more does Cotts have to do? Knock on wood, but Damaso has had much more confidence in his fastball lately, leading to more success. Hopefully he can keep it up, it would be nice to have someone on this team who we can be confident in getting lefties out.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) He has 7 homers this year in 283 AB. Last year, he has 17 homers in 523 AB. That's a significant decrease in homers/AB. And yes, from all the games I've seen him play with Cubs and Red Sox, he was a bad fielder. That would be about 12-13 homers over a full season, no? And he also had 20 doubles, 37 last year, so basically on pace for the same number. He's not bad defensively, either. I'd say average at second, slightly below average at third.
  17. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) I like Gload, but just because he can hit in Charlotte doesn't mean he could hit in the Majors, but don't get me wrong,it would be good to see him again. He hit .320 last year up here, with a 115 OPS+. He can hit major league pitching.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) Bellhorn sucks. Brutal on defense, and he hasn't proven he can be the same player once steroid testing took place. His HR numbers per AB have been about the same as last year, and same thing with his doubles. He's better than most of our bench players, too. And he's not brutal on defense. Slightly below average, but not brutal.
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) I am hoping we get Ibanez. He doesnt K and is a line drive doubles type hitter that this team needs. Plus he is left handed. Can play the OF and 1st. I wish they'd just call up Ross Gload. Him being at Charlotte is pointless.
