  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) Love Bulin too much? Now that's rich. This guy could carry Eddie Belfour, have room for Joc TBo on the other shoulder while still making a glove save. I dunno, Mike, wasn't 'Bulin benched just a year or two ago in the playoffs? I thought I remember hearing/seeing that...
  2. QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 06:55 AM) Ya he's not gonna make any Pro Bowls but I'm excited about him because well, it's better than last year. Tom Thayer likes him a helluva lot, FWIW. He RAVED about grabbing Garza in the offseason...
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) If they don't make a trade, most likely the Hawks are going to have to sign one of these 6 guys; Eric Lindros Jason Allison Ziggy Palffy Teemu Selanne Paul Kariya (rumored to sign with Montreal IIRC this morning though) Peter Bondra I'd love either of the top two. I'd like Kariya. Selanne -- eh, he's getting up there in age. But, he's not the worst option. Don't know enough about Bondra to comment on him...
  4. Hmm... A trade in the works, maybe? They're bringing in an awful lot of third line/fourth line types... I agree with SFF and whoever else brought up his name, Zig Palffy would be a nice pickup. I think our defense is set. I can live if we land 'Bulin along with a top-line player. I can even live if we just get one or the other. But we need to land one of the two.
  5. To get this thread back on a good track, here's a free-agent tracker from TSN. http://www2.sportsnet.ca/nhl/free_agent_tracker.html
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) :rolly Go ahead, act dumb. I could care less... Why'd you respond then?
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:04 AM) Here's a though -- get off my back.
  8. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) LOL. His BB. Nice. Exactly. What's wrong with a walk?
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:02 AM) :headshake Somehow my words always get spun into s***... Here's a thought -- try less words.
  10. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) You don't know if that happens without Timo. Oh, Ok. The Sox would've just said, "Damn, Timo didn't get a hit, so we can't score now...!" I thought the BB against Anahiem was pretty important... Harris wasn't good this year. I'm not trying to argue that. But Timo isn't worth a million bucks.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) He's in a funk. Get off his back. We're losing. Wow. The world is over! Let's start Timo and Willie and Widge the rest of the year! :rolly
  12. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) But that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying just based on that alone he should be here over Willie, but he's done much more. He'd have much higher avg with RISP if every ball he hit in KC didn't line right at somebody. Game winning HR against Minny this year. Game tying hit against one of the best closers in the game with 2 outs. He was the only one to hit in the Oakland series at home. ... even though we scored like four runs after his homer...
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) What I saw in Willie was someone that when he started struggling on the field, he'd put his head down and would keep struggling. Don't forget that there are plenty of people that say he's not well liked off the field also. I'd heard that since his family member/friend had passed, that he'd been pretty quiet. So, Podsednik's 0-for-5 tonight. It's probably 'cause he had a negative attitude, right?
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) Screw who's better: Willie or Timo. I personally think both of them should have been off this team. At least Timo has produced lately. Willie was awful for far too long this season, and didn't seem to have a very positive attitude on the field. Oh come on, give me a f***ing break. So, now you can tell what their mentality is, fathom? So, what's El Duque thinking tonight, huh? How about Crede? Or Blum?
  15. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:49 AM) Hey, I gave him credit for stealing an occasional base. Perez has contributed 10x more than Willie this year. He contributed more than Willie had all year just by getting that clutch hit against LAA. ...yet again, he doesn't get that opportunity if Harris doesn't get on base, and steal a base. And Steve, weren't we at a game early in the year where the bases were loaded and one out in the ninth against Detroit, Timo was at the plate, and struck out? See, I can remember specific instances, too.
  16. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) Let's not go there... No, I don't think Harris is as good or better than Podsednik at stealing bases. I wasn't implying that. I just get tired of seeing people say, "he can't steal a base". He's 80% success rate on his career. He's doing something right...
  17. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) Because Willie can't bunt, hit, play defense for half of the year, move the runners over, come up with a big hit. He can steal an occasional base. Can't play defense? You're talking about Perez, not Harris, right? Can steal an occasional base? I hope you're talking about Podsednik, too, because over his career, he's been .3 percentage points better than Harris.
  18. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:42 AM) Easily. It's not even close. How so?
  19. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:35 AM) Yah, thats not good if you are a starter, but he's not. He's needed to OCCASIONALLY come in and get a big hit. And he's done that many times so far this year. His close and late numbers are .273 .333 .545 .878 Not too shabby for a pinch hitter. And I'm looking at individual circumstances, and he's won two BIG games by himselft and tied at least 3 other in the 8th or 9th inining. What, the Anahiem game? I can say Willie Harris did equally as well to win that game, as Timo doesn't get the opportunity if Harris doesn't draw a walk AND steal second. Name for me these other times. Funny... he's been bad with RISP, Ok (and I'm stretching Ok there -- a .308 OBP isn't that good), bad with runners on and two outs. But I forget -- a .280 OBP or whatever is definitely worth a million bucks.
  20. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:27 AM) Timo has easily earned his contract so far this year. He won a couple games for us and brought us back with big hits in a few others. That alone is worth that million along with what he has done int he clubhouse. .... Even though the stats show he hasn't been very good in 'clutch' situations. I'm sorry, sub-.300 OBP doesn't equal $1 million bucks.
  21. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) what are timo's stats pinch hitting? just from my memory, he's been pretty succesful there. As a PH this year, he has a .250 OBP in 15 ABs. With men on and two outs, he has a .250 OBP in 22 ABs. With RISP, he has a .276 OBP in 25 ABs. Link. But hey, he's a clubhouse favorite and worth every penny of his $1 million dollar contract.
  22. Does anyone here have faith in any of our pinch-hitters on the bench?
  23. So -- the Hawks, reportedly, offered more money than Philly did to Forsberg. That's kind of dissappointing, but good at the same time. Good to know that Tallon was given permission to offer the (or close to it) max to someone. But, until we actually prove that we can win -- there's going to be a small percentage of the best players who won't come here. Ah, well. They need to get an answer from Khabibulin, quick, 'cause all of the top-line forwards are being snatched up.
  24. DJ has been extremely un-funny tonight, while trying to crack jokes.
  25. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 01:47 AM) Stars official site says they've re-inked Modano to a 5 yr deal. That's Ok with me. Dallas might regret the last two years of that deal, especially if he's making five million. With the new salary cap, it's going to be hard to dump a 38 year old with another year left on his deal -- which might happen to the Stars.
