  1. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:21 AM) I would say they are moving sideways. Jesse Foppert also went in the deal. He had as much fan fare and upside as Mcarthy, and he hasn't turned out to be anything. That was an awful trade for SF. So, trade three of your best young pitchers (Williams + Foppert + Aarsdma) for Hawkins and Winn? Randy f***ing Winn? So, rather than keeping their young talent, they're going to make an attempt at that weak division by getting Randy f'n Winn? Mercy, Sabean is a f***ing moron.
  2. Alrighty then. My internet is finally working this morning. Gosh, I'd die if I didn't have computer access for a week... Anyways, can an admin move this to the... you know, the secret place where bad threads go?
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) Right now, Cotts is best pitcher involved in that trade. I don't think any of us were suggesting dealing Cotts in a package for Guardado. We were just lining up the bullpen with Guardado in it, and we got to talking about how Cotts is so awesome. Yeah, Bavasi asks for Cotts, and he'd hear a dial-tone immediately.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) He's been lights out. I've always had a lot of faith in Neal, like I've said before he's just a guy that I felt was going to be a very good pitcher. Cotts has become one of my favorite Sox players. Everyone wanted him to succeed. He's a local kid, so you know how that goes. And, even though he had poor (main) numbers last year, he was fooling hitters -- with one pitch. This year... man, he's been a joy to watch. I'm so amazed how no one -- and I mean no one -- can catch up to his fastball. And then he gets 'em looking fastball, and throws a slider/curve in the dirt. And then he goes up and in. It's beautiful, watching him pitch. I think that's one of the reasons why this team is so loveable -- 'cause the main cogs of this team have been here for two-three years or more. Sure, Pierzynski and Dye and Iguchi and Duque have been great additions, but it's Konerko, Buehrle, Garland, Cotts, Rowand, Crede (to an extend), those guys, who've been carrying us.
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) I agree with all this. And righties are hitting .183 against Guardado this season. Oops. I was reading the OBA line. Thanks for the correction.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) I'm sorry, just cause I have to. Hermy, Eddie, Cliff, Neal, Jenks, Damaso . That's just a deep and versatile bullpen. Obviously I'm getting way ahead of myself but that would be awesome. Yup. No need to upgrade the rotation when you can basically make each playoff game a (essentially) five inning game. Wow... has Neal Cotts been huge or what? He's bringing my sad-face from the Foulke trade to a straight face.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:39 AM) I agree. I'm not sure if you read the whole article or just saw the blurb from a site like rotoworld or prosportsdaily but that's a good read. It talks about how it looks like Eddie will be traded, the thing that I didn't know is that he has a partial no trade and teams included are: The Yanks, Bosox, and Mets, plus others. The sox aren't on that list so we're fine. Good stuff, I'd love Eddie on the southside. Yeah, I read the whole article. I don't know why I overlooked Guardado, but he makes a lot of sense. It seems that Bavasi is finally starting to realize that Texas/Anahiem/Oakland won't lose the rest of the games this year, thus giving the M's the AL West title. And, with Guardado, the Sox could play the matchups in the 9th, rather than just giving Hermy the ball. Lefties hit .250 off of him, as opposed to righties hitting .243. Really... it makes a lot of sense.
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:33 AM) To be honest, no I was thinking the 3rd baseman. All these rumors have just all come together now it seems, I've seen so much, just...blah, I think you know what I'm saying. I missed the /Baj part, if I saw that I would have known you were talking about the reliever. No problem. Truth be told, if Bavasi wanted 1st-round Josh Fields for Guardado, straight up... I'd probably do it. I dunno, I guess I'm not that high on Fields... BTW -- I think Guardado is a lot more realistic than Wagner, too. And, I think he'd be a better option, because I think you could get him for less, without giving up Mac or Marte.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Tracey could probably be a centerpiece for this deal. To be honest, I'd do either deal, all though Tracey and Fields are two pretty solid spects along with Viz who probably does have some trade value. Guardado is having a fantastic year, he's another guy I'd love to have. I'm pretty sure you know, but just to clarify -- by Fields, I mean the reliever. And I'd do that in a heartbeat. If Damaso Marte is the worst guy you have in your 'pen... wow. You got a good bullpen. Some people project Tracey as a reliever, anyways -- let's hope Bavasi doesn't know that.
  10. Sorry fellas, I hate to make a new thread when there's already 50 other threads out there, but I hadn't seen Guardado's name mentioned anywhere. So, here it is: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/234621_mbok30.html What would it take? Tracey + Vizcaino? Tracey + Fields/Baj + Vizcaino?
  11. Ah -- the one time a year Hawks fans get to be excited about. I like Brule a lot. Sounds like a hard-nosed forward who can put the puck in the net. But he might not fall. Basically, if any of Brule/Johnson/Kopitar/Ryan happen to fall to seven, I hope the Hawks grab 'em, even Johnson, the defenseman -- 'cause you can't pass on a defenseman so good, regardless of the Hawks situation. But I doubt that'll happen anyways. So, if everything plays out like it's supposed to, I hope the Hawks take Skille -- he's going to be attending Wisconsin. Here's a Top Ten report from Redline. Link.
  12. Young is back!!! Good first start for Liotta, too. Good to see.
  13. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 05:40 AM) What. Shoppach for Bigie? AND Stern? Wow, Theo's a dumbass. That's what I was thinking... Unless Bigbie is going to be dealt to Florida, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the Red Sox. Didn't they just get a AAAA OFer type in Hyzdu?
  14. Bigbie dealt to Boston for Catcher Kelly Shoppach and OFer Adam Stern. EDIT: I'll merge this once people see it with the other trades thread in a few.
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 04:08 AM) Is it really worth giving up those two just to upgrade Marte for three months? I don't think so. I just wish Ed Wade would accept the fact that his team sucks and they can still compete with Urbina as the closer. I would love to see us get Wagner, but if it costs Marte and McCarthy, count me out. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's leery on this. I'd hate to see McCarthy pull end up being like the Garland/Karchner deal... Yes, I realize that Wagner >>> Karchner, but I don't think the upgrade from Marte to Wagner is worth McCarthy.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 03:00 AM) A little over managing here by Oz, oh well get this thing over quick, Viz. Rooney and Farmer suggesting that someone might be here to see Luis (scouts -- as opposed to a girlfriend, or something).
  17. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) I don't like Marte being in for another inning. There's a chance he can lower his trade value. :rolly
  18. Has Soxtalk been crashing on anyone else a little bit more than normal as of late?
  19. Byrnes to Baltimore for Bigbie. Link.
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) They would get Mueller to play 3rd. He's pretty good with the glove. Manny would be unbelievable at the Urinal. I'd like the Sox to go after Mueller in the offseason. It'd be nice to have a bat like his batting 7th...
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) .391 career obp in the minors. Who cares about his homerun total when he's going to be a leadoff hitter? That OBP is pretty average heavy. If he can translate that to the majors, great, but I dunno. The Tampa Bay fans I talked to over at BTF don't think a lot of him. He's also a pretty bad OFer. Extremely bad reads on the ball...
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:52 AM) Marte has been able to overcome his wildness because another reliever cleans his mess up for him. Trading McCarthy doesn't mean we can't get another trade for a bat. If the Phillies are willing to do this deal, I'd run with it in a heartbeat. How so? Who becomes our main chip if we do a deal with McCarthy? Anderson -- meh. He's good, but I doubt he's going to net the bat we need. Tracey? Not a chance. Sweeney? Eh -- he's putting up decent numbers, albeit in a pitcher's park, but I'm sure the lack of power is pretty discouraging. I'm just thinking that overpaying for a bat would be a better option than overpaying for a bullpen arm. I'm not as against this as I seem to be, just more, unsure -- that's a better word.
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:38 AM) An unreliable reliever and a prospect for a top 5 closer in baseball? That's not so tough. For a guy who's going to pitch, at most, 40 innings down the stretch? Again... I'm not so sure. BTW, though Marte is still struggling, he's still striking out over ten per nine IP. He's been wild, but for the most part, has been able to overcome his wildness by his stuff. It's a tough call. I'm glad I'm not the GM. Personally, I'd rather overpay for a bat -- someone who's going to effect this team every day, rather than once every three nights...
  24. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:01 AM) Sanchez is a guy I don't know much about other than that Gammons raves about him in his columns. Petit has deceptive stuff but not overpowering from what I've read. That said, he has dominated all levels so far. Milledge is a VERy toolsy outfielder who could be special although he was smaller than I thought he'd be. He looks like a Jose Reyes with mildly more power to me in center. Shoppach is about as good of a prospect for a catcher you will find. They don't come around often and would be a big upgrade over Toby Hall in the longrun. Could be a Chuck Lamar homerun. Milledge isn't close to the bigs but it would make you wonder if Crawford, Baldelli, or Gathright isn't long for the team having Delmon, Gomes, and then Milledge all in the outfield glut too. How about spinning one of those guys for Ryan Howard in the offseason if you are the Rays? Gathright doesn't have much else except for speed. I mean, he can run, and it looks like he'll hit for a decent average, but offhand, I don't think he walks a lot. And, IIRC, he had something like one HR in his minor league career. Crawford will be there for awhile. At least, until he starts asking for big bucks. Delmon Young is tearing up the minors, too. I assume they'll stick with Young + Crawford, and then whoever did the best out of Baldelli/Gathright/Milledge -- if the trade did go through (which, I doubt it will -- so I don't even know why I just made a huge post about it... :banghead ).
