GAME THREAD 7-26-2005 SOX vs ROYALS
CWSGuy406 replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:05 AM) Idiot Willie. When he starts running back to first throw to Paul and get hte force, then you have stais in a run down. I'm glad I'm not an English teacher... -
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) Anderson/Tracy for Overbay Yes? No? I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I doubt Milwaukee would. I don't see *Tracey* as a major piece to any deal. He's putting up a 4.03 ERA at a huge park, is walking almost a guy every two innings, and doesn't have a very good K/9 rate. I doubt he'd be half the deal for such a good player in Overbay.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) An FYI, Rowand is hitting in the .290s and climbing seemingly everyday, and Podsednik is at .302. And to get close to answering your little tidbit, the 2002 Minnesota Twins did not have a player hit over .300...but had 2 that hit exactly .300, AJ Pierzynski, and Jacque Jones. Interesting note about that team was that they did not have a 30 homer guy or a 100 RBI guy on that team. Well, off the top of my head, the Sox should have two 30 HR guys by the end of the year -- Dye and Konerko. And, the DH spot of Everett/Thomas should produce 30 HRs by the end of the year too.

QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) I don't know what's wrong with me, but I'm pretty excited to watch some Blackhawks hockey once things get underway. I've never been a huge diehard follower, but I got to go to a few games before the lockout, and live hockey is breathtaking. That was before I got my liscence, so now I definetly plan to drive up there to catch some games. IIRC, they also had student tickets in the upper level on weeknights for 8 bucks or something. That's a good deal to see any sporting event. And as far as no home games on TV, it sucks, but radio is not too bad on 670 with Foley, I think his name is. Whatever, I am probably crazy, but I'm still excited. Foley is part of the reason that I don't mind (as much) the home games not being on TV. I mean, of course, if you can choose TV or radio, you're gonna take watching 'em on TV. But Foley is the best P-B-P announcer in Chicago, bar none. And that's saying a lot, 'cause we're blessed to have some real good ones (Rooney, Joniak -- he's getting better every year, and he really does his homework, the Bulls guy whose name escapes me, and even Pat Hughes isn't bad).

Your sliders are good, Steve. I played Arizona State last night, and lost by 21. But it was back and forth, two touchdown lead the whole time. They play-actioned the s*** out of me, and while Jeff Backes is a decent #2, he can't hang with the big-time WRs. So, he got burned a lot. And, they got a playmaker TE, too, who made some real nice grabs over my LBs. Turn up WR catch a little bit. I understand dropping some passes, but they drop too many at 30%. I'm gonna try turning it up to 40%.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) And we don't miss second place all that much either I'm not saying that. But I took it as people making it seem like Melvin got raped in the deal -- and he didn't. Trade worked out for both clubs. Getting Lee's money off the books allowed us to get El Duque + AJ + Iguchi (or a combo of two out of the three), along with Pods. But Milwaukee still has a damn good leadoff man (Clark posting a .316/.378/.428 line), along with an OF'er who's currently posting an .856 OPS.

I really don't think that Melvin misses Podsednik or Vizcaino that much...

Official "Deliver us Sidney" Thread
CWSGuy406 replied to CWSGuy406's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
How about Miroshlav (sp -- know I f***ed that up) Satan? He's only 30 years old, and seems to have settled into a nice little niche of 25-35 goals a year, around 60 points. I don't have much of a recollection of seeing him play, but since '97, the least amount of games in a season he's played is 79. I think all of us hockey fans would chuckle a little bit inside if he signed with New Jersey... -
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) Geesh. I know Grossman is the hometown boy, but Smith is one of the most polished players to come out of the draft within past 5-8 years...especially at the quarterback position. Accuracy: Advantage Smith Arm: Scratch Leadership: Advantage Smith Football Intelligence: Advantage Smith Ability to Move In/Out of the Pocket: BIG Advantage Smith ...I mean, I could go on and on, but let's just watch things play out. Semi-serious question. How does one measure leadership?

Tony Amonte's contract bought out...
CWSGuy406 replied to NCsoxfan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 05:53 AM) If anything the Hawks need a first line center, not a 2nd line RW like Tony Amonte. I agree. As it looks now, our lines are... Calder - ??? - Ruutu Daze - Arny - ??? Bell - Brown - Barnaby Borque - Nichol - Thorton/Moen I'd like to think that they'll get at least one front line guy -- a center would be ideal. Then (if they only get one front-line forward), you can bump Bell up to the second line, Borque up to the third line, and let guys like Vorobiev/Ellison/Keith (Matt) battle for the last spot. -
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) So Fielder's service has started, correct? The only reason then to not keep him up for good is if he's not ready [hitting .264 with strong OBP and SLg numbers] or can't field well enough to stick. Seeing how his glove won't get much better from now until the start of 2006, the only question is if his bat is ready. I've heard from Brewer fans that he's actually very nimble for how big he is. They think that so long as he continues what he's doing hitting-wise (high OBP, high SLG%), that he'll be fine for a couple of years at 1B. Later down the road, who knows...
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) I thought Fielder was still up with MIL. I didn't know it was for only 1 game. But with MIL 2 games under .500, they have to know this yr it's unrealistic to fight for the wildcard. If Fielder is ready [which it seems he is--I don't know his stats in AAA], Overbay could be moved in the right deal for MIL. They brought up Fielder to basically get his feet wet. They had a couple series' against AL teams and thought it was a good time to get him up there as the DH. I think he played a couple games at 1B while he was up, too.

Roenick, Chelios, Amonte...

Steve -- you're comparing Gretzky to Paul Kariya? Oh my... I think I need to go puke. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) Didnt know Thome came up with our org?? Thats the only reason we keep bringing Frank back Yeah, Thomas has only been brought back for sentimental reasons. He isn't here because the lowest OPS he's posted over his career is .834, it's all because he came up with our organization... :rolly Jesus H, that's a really dumb comment.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) I disagree completely. That's exactly what Dollar Bill is planning. He's gonna bring in a bunch of old retread veterans who's best days are long since gone just so he can say he's doing something and pay them a typical lowball Wirtz contract. Its just another snowjob fans. Dont all for it. STAY HOME!!!!! Highly doubt it. Highly. JR a Top-5 Center? Boy, I didn't realize that this was 1994... Veteran presence? Yeah, maybe we should bring in Igor Korolev and Alexander Karpotsev to bring a good 'veteran presence'. GMAB. Kyle Calder and Mark Bell have been in the league long enough, this is their team -- they play the game the right way. Matt Barnaby is a vet, too. On D, Bryan Berard. We don't need a bunch of 35 year olds who can barely skate taking away time from our rooks... -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) Ya I think I do...lol Then again, I did not know then that Johan would have an ERA in the high 3's, and I didn't think that the Twins offense would be this bad. As of right now, they are sputtering badly, and need some sort of spark offensively...and his name is not Bret Boone. You also have to remember that I love how the A's and Beane go about structuring their ballclub, and I had said early on that I would not be surprised if they are a surprise team this year. What is scary to think about is that this A's team will probably be better next year. That, and you and I have that friendly bet. Shh... that's devil-talk. Everyone knows that they don't have Mulder/Hudson anymore so they can't win. Oops.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) Congrats. You can use photoshop.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) I'd deal them both, cause quite frankly, Griffey may be the only draw, but he still costs them more than he brings in, imo. They need to get from out of his contract. If I were to deal Dunn, I'd hurt his trade value a bit, but I'd try and tie Eric Milton to him. There's no way in hell that Cincy gets full value for Dunn. They've basically made him the scapegoat of the team, and any move to trade him will come off (in my mind) as Cincy trying to move a "clubhouse cancer". Which, is pretty stupid. They've alienated Dunn there, same with Kearns. Kearns has the chance to be a really good ballplayer -- if we weren't stacked at OF, I bet that Kenny would be doing his best to bring him over here.

Badmouthing Cellular and the Whitesox
CWSGuy406 replied to Steve Bartman's my idol's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 04:09 AM) I agree, but you don't base a whole year on a single game, and probably the worst game of the year for us, and it was Eric Castillias, or whatever his name is. Oh, I totally agree with you. I can care less if some dumbass who has watched about one White Sox game this year is going to tell us that we're bad. -

CWSGuy406 replied to Steve Bartman's my idol's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was there Saturday. And, was there really anything for the fans to get excited about? The Sox got behind early, and when they tried to mount a comeback in the ninth, the fans were really into it. I mean, there were moments, say El Duque vs. Ortiz or an in-game matchup like that, but other than subtle moments like that, the White Sox didn't really give us (the fans) anything to get excited about. -
Time to move Getz up, eh? Seems like he's two-fer every night (at least), as well as walking. Munoz got a little lucky tonight. Only gave up three runs, but allowed 13 baserunners. Eight hits, five BBs. Hopefully Gio can bounce back in his next start.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:38 AM) thanks for your input, but these are innings that Damaso could have used to get back in the strike zone. He usually warms up at least in this situation. But we bring on our long reliever???? hmmmmmm ...Or because Damaso has pitched the last three nights? I'm positive he pitched three out of the four Boston games. But keep talking. Just checked -- he pitched all four games in the Boston series. The first two he was decent, and, not so good the next two.
-
Well, I have the tale of three pitchers tonight on my fantasy team. Zack Greinke... well, not so good. Barry Zito... doing well (got him for Dontrelle Willis -- I also got Radke back too). and, Derek Lowe... doing well. I just hope that Greinke's suckiness doesn't bog down Zito and Lowe's good...ness.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) At this point and time, yes. I'm not worried about that. Look -- if this team can't put a little bulls*** "curse" -- or, excuse, is what I should say -- behind them, and beat Oakland -- then they don't deserve a shot at the ALCS.

Jenks' fastball is pretty straight. His 90 MPH sinker/slider, on the other hand, not so much. When he throws that pitch low in the zone, it's damn good. He's just gotta learn to harness it a little better. I can live with Jenks' growing pains. He's making the league minimum. Vizcaino, on the other hand...
