QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 03:35 AM) I agree with that. Chelios would be a signing that would just try and bring fans to the games. Yep -- really wouldn't help them win games one bit. If he came cheap, and would be willing to get #5/#6 d-man minutes, that's fine. I think he could be a good mentor for young kids coming up like Keith, Babchuk, Seabrook, etc etc. If he wants more minutes/lots of cash? No thanks. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) You know what's amazing to me is it seemed like Zito had lost it with last year and the beginning of this year, all the sudden it's like a switch just flipped and he's the old zito. I've heard that he's learned a slider. Or a two-seamer. I bet he's probably taken some exception to being pegged as the 'third guy' in the 'Big 3'. He's increased his K/9, IIRC, and my opinion has certainly changed on him.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) Oh you jerk. To be honest though, every night I check to see what Oakland did just cause I don't want them in the playoffs. That obviously has nothing to do with my bet with wite, just don't want the sox facing oakland. Agreed. I'd much rather have our offense face the Anahiem pitchers than our offense face Oakland pitchers. Zito/Harden are about as good a one-two punch in a short series as you're going to get... Hopefully Minny doesn't win the WC, either, 'cause I'd hate to face Santana/Radke in a short series, too. And before I get jumped all over, Buehrle/Garcia are just fine. I think we match up well against anyone's pitching staff, for that matter.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:38 AM) Getting a bit ahead of yourself, bud. Yep -- 'cause we all know you're gonna get dominated in that Oakland friendly bet with witesoxfan...

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) Is that bad thing?? I mean, I know there are many that hate Timo, but if he is doing the job...why is that bad? That's good. If Timo/Harris are preventing Gload from being on the big club for the rest of the year, then yes, it's a bad thing. Just, 'cause I think in the long run, having Gload up here will help the team more than having the former two.

Thanks, Jon...

I'm sorry, but Jack Skille is not going to fall to the 20's... I'll look at mock drafts when I see Red Line Report or The Hockey News or TSN release one -- not FSN. -
On a sidenote -- Soxbadger, if the Hawks draft Jack Skille, I expect you to give a full report after each home game. He is, afterall, going to be a Badger. I don't know if you follow hockey much, but it kind of sucks that Kessel is going to Minny. Ok -- sorry for the hijack. :banghead

Nice call, Rowand! URIBE!!!!

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 01:54 AM) PH for Uribe. He's hit the ball hard twice tonight. I think he's gonna come through here.

AJ!!!!! 4-1 SOX!!!

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Good point fathom, Ozuna has good control of the bat. Harris just overmatched every time. Ozuna at least can get them jam shots for base hits! ...didn't look overmatched in that last AB. But I agree with your main point about having Ozuna in the lineup tonight.
-
Harris can't buy a hit right now. He scalded that ball...
-
Uribe is 0-for-2, but he's hit the ball hard both times. He looks decent at the plate.

QUOTE(Pasqua's Mailman @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) I think much had to do with the fact that Timo Perez was in the on-deck circle... take a chance that Manny won't make the throw rather than Timo will get a hit. Which has the better odds? Honestly, the way Manny plays left... my money is on Paul scoring on that play (if I had a chose between the two of course). Who are you kidding? Manny had the ball and Konerko didn't even touch thirdbase yet. He took his time and still had Konerko by five feet. JON GARLAND!!!!

Good pitch, Jon. Come on, groundball right here...

Cora, what the f***?!?!?!?!!?! IT'S PAUL f***ING KONERKO!!!!!!!!

That's why it's gonna be one hell of an interesting offseason, Kap. I've heard/read that the Hawks might not give Thibault a qualifying offer. For some reason, I don't think that they really thinik much of Thibault as a goalie (Tallon). Crawford panning out means a whole lot to them, I bet. -
My lineup at Charlotte is f***ing awesome. It's not awesome 'cause there's a lot of good prospects, just, 'cause, look at all the names! C- Jamie Burke 1B- Brad Fullmer 2B- Donnie Sadler 3B- Greg Norton SS- Kelly Dransfeldt LF- Timo Perez CF- Brian Anderson RF-Joe Borchard DH- Ricky Gutierrez I love it.
-
Wow -- filthy sinker to Graff by Jon there. Oh, and Everett looked awful in his AB. Three pitches, three swings, three misses -- and on all three, he misses high. Seemed like he was swinging out of his shoes, too, but I'm not gonna debate that.

In case you're wondering about some of the other players besides Crosby, TSN has a Top 30 List. That Gilbert Brule kid intrigues me. I like player's like Peca, Ruutu, who are basically pegged as the 'total package' -- meaning, the physical part as well as a scoring touch. Of course, if Jack Johnson fell, I don't know how you can pass -- I realize they've drafted defense the past couple years, but at a point you gotta think of 'best overall player'. -
Can anyone speak from experience? Steve Stone said in an earler ESPN broadcast (a Wakefield game) that it's easier to hit a knuckleballer from the right side -- and, Victor Martinez, a switch hitter, batted as a righty. I wonder, then, why so many lefties in the lineup...? Why not Ozuna at 2B instead of Harris?

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) is there any evidence that Gload is a tool? I just wondered why he wasn't brought up sooner, and in an interview today he sounded like a bit of a smart ass. Just asking. I can't speak for everyone, but at Soxfest, he seemed like a really likeable guy. From a player standpoint and from a fan standpoint. JMO, though. Guys, quit b****ing. Good 1-2-3 inning. Be happy.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) Good God almighty. So you'd be willing to trade about $7 Million, our #4 starter, and our only mop up bullpen guy for half a season of Burnett (and his salary?) $7 million? I thought it was $6 million, and wouldn't it only be like $3 million, 'cause it's halfway through the season? At least, that's the line I was thinking along with. If paying $6 million this year meant getting Burnett, for just Contreras and Vizcaino, yes I'd do it. Of course, I'd reconsider if I knew that there was also interest in trading for a guy like Wagner/Guardado. But if that was the only move possible to make -- then I'd probably do it (moreso along the money lines of $3 million, though.). Vizcaino doesn't mean a whole lot to me. I think Jeff Bajenaru could come up and do equally as well as Vizcaino. In my mind, I think if given the shot, he could do a better job, but that's extremely debatable.
-
From reading everything, any deal that nets us Burnett would also have Contreras going back to Florida. Unless, like Beck suggests, Burnett was then dealt to another team. But I doubt that happens. A real interesting idea would be something like -- Contreras + Vizcaino for Burnett, with the Sox eating all of Viz/Contreras' contracts for this year, and half of Contreras' for next year. Contreras would have a chance to pitch in an extreme pitchers' park, closer to his home -- at a real discount, too. Of course, I'm doing a lot of speculating here -- moreso hoping that the $$$ would be enough to goad the Marlins into pulling a deal. Hopefully Florida starts to get a little desperate, forcing them to pull the trigger on a poor deal.
