Hmm -- I'd love to have any one of these guys on the Sox. Lilly would be a very nice pitcher to have, he could spot start and pitch in long-relief. Batista would help us in the later innings and push everyone down a peg, and Hillenbrand would give us a damn good right-handed bat off the bench. The million dollar question, though, is for what price?

Your reaching here. Your reaching a lot here. You want stats? You want facts? In a full season, Harris put up .262/.343/.323. And it was a decent season. He got on base at a good clip against righties, played excellent defense. But the fact is that if Iguchi was free for the season, free to swing at the pitch of his choice rather than swing at the pitch dictated by when Podsednik steals, or cutting the field in half by only letting him hit the ball to the right side -- I assure you his numbers would be much better than .269/.330/.410. I guarantee it. You're not gonna see anymore of a Harris fan than me on this board (Ok -- chisox14 too), but he is not a starter. Platoon role, maybe, but I don't think Iguchi needs to be platooned. Maybe benched when there's some 'good stuff' guys on the mound, but that's it.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 05:43 AM) Where are the Hawks projected to fall. Don't know. They have a 4.2% chance of getting first. Out of the thirty teams, sixteen of them have a 2.1% shot at first (one ball in the lotto), ten of them have a 4.2% chance (two balls in the lotto), and four teams have a 6.3%. Here's the way it works -- each team gets at least one ball in the lotto. The max is three. Take each team, and they get three balls -- subtract a ball for making the playoffs (each of the last three years), and subtract a ball for winning the lotto in the past three years. So, f*** you Mike Smith for putting together a garbage veteran-laiden team three years ago that got their asses beat by St. Louis in the first round... -
Big day today for hockey fans. Big day? No, huge day. Someone is about to get one of the best players ever to be drafted -- the total package of grit, speed, finish -- Crosby's a total stud. The Hawks... well, I would go nuts if somehow, someway, their name is the last to be announced. What I mean by that -- they're going to announce the teams from last to first (in order of the lottery), so 30th to 1st. For people in the Chicagoland area, Comcast is starting coverage at 3:00 EST. There's some other things, like rule changes, primarily taking out the red line (I like it -- I've watched some college hockey the past few weeks on FCN, and there isn't as much 'cherrypicking' as I'd thought), shootouts, and some other things that I'll be interested in hearing. But, for hockey fans -- especially the diehard here, this is the biggest day in a year, and I'm extremely pumped. This draft is supposed to be pretty decent, and I've heard that so long as you're in the Top 10, you'll have a shot at a good talent (meaning, if you get pick #8, it won't be all that different from pick #4). But, I don't think anyone has pick 8 or pick 4 on their mind -- it's number one... And, if the Hawks don't get him -- please, PLEASE -- he can't go to Detroit. Or Toronto.

I hate saying dumb s*** like this -- but tomorrow is probably the biggest game of the season up to date. They really need to bounce back after such a poor defensive effort...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:34 AM) Personally speaking...I grade Schnurstein over Fields (but I seem to be the only person who feels that way). Schnur is going to be a good one and if I were Kenny, Fields would be on the list of guys I'd trade. There's a couple of guys over at BTF who agree with you. In fact, that's why I brought Nanita's name up, 'cause one of the posters (when talking about our prospects) immediately brought up Nanita, Schnurstein, and Valido. I didn't think much of it, but wanted to see how the former two were doing, and was pleasantly surprised.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 04:14 AM) Snow, Hatteberg, Durazo, and Millar are the only ones I would even consider. Robin too. Kevin Millar? Kevin Millar of the .386 SLG% and terrible defense? That Kevin Millar? The one that just about every Red Sox fan is dying to rid themselves of? He's no upgrade. And Scott Hatteberg is in the same boat. He's slugging .372 and is on the wrong side of 30. If we're interested in either of these two guys, why not just give Ross Gload a shot. He's a better defender than both of 'em, and hasn't shown that he can't be an everyday player. Why not give him a shot? Or, there's Adam Dunn...

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 04:09 AM) Tomorrows game will be pretty key, otherwise there is a decent chance of a sweep and quite frankly, thats not a good time for this to happen. Could send Kenny or someone into panic mode. At the same time, Jon goes out and wins tomorrow, maybe Contreras or Duque come through and you can pull a split. Everyone goes home happy and in your minds you realize the team could of easily took 3 out of 4 if htey play some defense. I'm tellin' ya, Jason -- El Duque's best start of the year is coming Saturday. Just 'cause me, Brian, Steve, and Zach will be in attendence.

I'm sorry, but I'm not ready to start putting the blame on Thomas. He hasn't been great, but considering he hasn't been seeing too many baseballs the last year and a half, I'm not gonna b**** at him. He's still posting a .905 OPS and is slugging .590... So, since I'm really not doing anything by just disagreeing with you guys, here's my suggestions to a solution. Juan Uribe... while his defense is valuable -- 4.5 defensive Win Shares leads our team, if there's an upgrade that's within reasonable pricing -- like Julio Lugo or Omar Vizquel -- you gotta try and make a move. A .266 on-base percentage is brutal. I haven't been very "for" the idea of getting Vizquel, but something's gotta be done. Luis Vizcaino... Look -- if our team is built on pitching and defense, why the hell is he still on our team? He's bad -- extremely bad. He had some nice outings in mop-up, but I'm sorry, when he was brought over in the Podsednik trade, all I heard was people all gaga over his arm, and how electric his stuff was. His stuff sucks. He hangs sliders and is too much of a pussy to throw his 93 MPH fastball. He pisses me off more than Contreras -- almost. You don't pay $1.3 million bucks for a guy to do mop-up. Jeff Baj can do a s***load better job at a quarter of the f***ing price. What I'm saying, is we need a new f***ing reliever -- Chad Qualls, Billy Wagner, Eddie Guardado -- somebody to push everyone down in the pecking order. I'm probably just really pissed off right now, but Vizcaino sucks. At least Uribe does something to earn some of his money, even if none of it comes from his bat -- Viz is a joke. Unfortunate that Shingo was DFA'ed alone, 'cause Viz deserved to be every bit as much.

Fathom, that ball right there was about as hard hit as the one to Iguchi. Maybe the one to Iguchi was hit a little harder. Point being, play should have been made. Come on White Sox. One more run...

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:14 AM) It's great to have one right hander out of the bullpen ( not closer) that we can rely on. Get to f***ing work kenny williams. It would be really nice to know what we have in Jeff Bajenaru, but no, Kevin Walker needs his work. f***in' bum...
-
Where the hell is Neal Cotts? DJ, shut the f*** up. The pitch was belt high.
-
Vizcaino... just, a little tip. Stop hanging your f***ing slider to people. Jesus H, what the f*** does he expect?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) Everyone's going to blame Crede, but that was a f***ing meatball served up by the master himself. I agree. That ball was a BP fastball. A f***ing BP fastball...

That might be the prettiest swing I've ever seen from Joe Crede. That was absolutely beautiful. LET'S GO WHITE SOX!!!! CLAP CLAP CLAP-CLAP-CLAP LET'S GO WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JOE CREDE!!!! WAY TO f***ING GO OPPO!!!!

AJ looks every bit as bad at the plate as Uribe does. He's trying to pull just about every pitch he sees at this point...

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) How about this: Was the Iguchi error on Ortiz's grounder a play that should have been made? Farmer was saying it was a real tough play. Good catch by PK there. It was a tough play. A line drive one hop. But he's a major league secondbaseman... and he should make the play. It's not like it took a bad hop or anything, hit a stone or the lip of the grass -- it was just hit hard. Should've been a double play. He's a major leaguer (sorry for being repetitive), he should make that play.
-
Nice play, Konerko! If we can't score one friggin' run against the Boston bullpen, I'm sorry, we don't deserve to win. LET'S GO WHITE SOX!

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:42 AM) Did Iguchi have a legit chance at throwing Damon out at home on his error? Good throw, and in my vision, he's out. Close play, but a good, accurate throw, and he's out. Even if he doesn't make a quick throw, the runners don't advance. But because the throw was a one-hop, both runners advanced.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) I just got home from work, but by following the game online and on the radio, why did Ozzie leave Buehrle in so long? He seemed to be struggling against the top of the Red Sox order, and was lucky that he hadn't given up more runs against the Red Sox. I know Ozzie loves to leave his starters in for as long as possible, but sometimes, it's better to not let extremely good MLB hitters see a pitcher for the 4th time in that game. The decision to leave him in was fine. Buehrle didn't have much defense behind him tonight. Iguchi made two errors (three if you count the ball he couldn't quite get out of his mit on Damon), and Rowand dropped a ball in center (not counted as an error, but should've been). I thought Buehrle pitched damn well against a real good lineup.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:34 AM) I just wonder how much we're being paid to lay down for these losers... I bet Bug Selig threated to pull the entire season if we didn't lay down for them... Your posts are borderline trolling, if not over the line. Shut up already. Thanks.

Umm, Jeckle -- are you drunk? Nice job, Cliff!

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:07 AM) God I hate the Red Sux... Not only are they frauds but they suck too... No excuse to lose to them... Damn Red Sux...... and gosh their tv is boring... you'd think with all that money they steal from their "fans" they could afford announcers with personalities.... What the hell are you talking about...?

Nice AB, Timo...
