  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) This is his first bad game at the plate in a while. Always nice to hear Sammy getting the boo's. Meh, his OBP right now is creeping towards .275. He still sucks, and wasn't worth the million bucks. Harris sucked more. That's really bad. And Gload -- well, Gload got screwed. Our bench isn't very good, especially when Everett isn't on it.
  2. LOL! Five runs in the first. And, one person made two outs in the inning. I could have guessed...
  3. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) Adkins is up because he fills a specific role which is innings eater in blowout or injury situations in order to let guys like Viz,Cotts, Politte, and Marte pitch an inning then get out. Everyone better start realizing this is how a smart team prepares for the post season. When pitching is your strength , you better keep your arms fresh. The Sox will only go as far as their pitching takes them. Ok, fine. Arnie Munoz can eat innings. And he has a reason to be called up. He's actually, uhh, succeeding at AAA. As opposed to a 5.8 -- or whatever -- ERA that Adkins has.
  4. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) He hates everybody, especially me. LOL. I'm just mad because -- IMO -- our bench got worse, not better. So, basically Geoff Blum is Pablo Ozuna (can play every position sans a few) with some power. We lost our best bat off the bench in Gload. The Harris move, I'm over it. He didn't perform, he deserves the send-down. But, what's Luis Vizcaino for? He's supposed to be the mop-up guy, right? Plus, if we do make the playoffs (and yes, I will say 'if' until that magic number is zero), one of Contreras/El Duque will be in the 'pen anyways. Why couldn't they wait one month, then they can call-up whichever 15 guys they feel like calling up. It doesn't make much sense. At all.
  5. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) well this may go to show that our minor league pitching system also sucks. Not much to choose from. PS Munoz will never make it either nor will diaz. ...in your opinion. I'd like to see what you were saying about Cotts last year and early this year, but I'm too lazy to look.
  6. I wish I had something more to say than "Adkins sucks", but really, nothing more can be said. He's had one good year in his professional career (2000). Since then, the best he's done is a 3.69 ERA. Everything else has had his ERA above four. Calling up Adkins over Diaz/Fields/Baj/Munoz makes zero sense.
  7. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Give him a chance. You never know. Im sure 95% of you thought Cotts was the weak spot in our bullpen,at the beg of the year. The Cotts situation compared to Adkins is totally different. a.)Cotts gave me reason for hope, as even when he was struggling, he was still strking out a lot of guys. His stuff was there, just, he hadn't harnessed it yet. b.)Minor league stats. Cotts was good in the minors -- 3.14 career ERA, but 11.22 K's/9. Adkins has a career 4.41 ERA, with 6.08 K's/9. Am I supposed to believe that Adkins is going to get a boost of energy by getting called up and say, "Hey, I can pitch better!"? And, BTW, I've been defending Cotts since the beginning of the year, so that doesn't work for me.
  8. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) For the last time, Adkins is up because he has MLB expierence in the midst of a pennant chase. You do not want two rookie arms in your bullpen when you are trying to clinch an AL pennant. Adkins is up here because he is another bullpen arm that can eat up a lot of mop-up innings and preserve the pen arms we are going to need in the post-season. It's an excellent move and I think it's going to pay dividends. MLB Experience... Alrighty. We could do the same by giving guys who actually, you know, have performed well this year a shot, too? Felix Diaz? Arnie Munoz?
  9. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) Because gload isn't a bullpen arm? Why do we need a bullpen arm?
  10. Is Harris + Gload really worse than Blum + Adkins? I know Gload + Blum is better than Adkins + Harris... but why Gload getting sent down? It makes zero sense.
  11. f***ing sickening... Adkins is garbage. Extremely lucky pitcher last season, and now, 'cause he did decent in Spring Training, gets called up. Ahead of Felix Diaz. Ahead of Arnie Munoz. Ahead of Jeff Bajenaru. Ahead of Josh Fields. And Gload goes down. So we lose our best bat off the bench. f***ing sickening.
  12. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) if they screwed this up. Wow because i swear to god i heard White Sox. You said you didn't know if you heard Red or White. Which is it? First story or second?
  13. Bazardo.... M's got him. Wasn't he considered/still is a pretty decent prospect?
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Keith, take a breath. You are smarter than this. Bajenaru is not healthy right now. Some of their guys have their arms falling off, it is just a filler move for a short period of time, that's all. It has nothing to do with preference, it's just a role that needs filling temporarily. Fine, Jim, not Baj. What about Diaz or Munoz? Both doing much better than Adkins, and Diaz has been coming off an injury. Adkins isn't good. Not one bit.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Jason it's all about the role. The arms are taxed, they need a guy who can throw multiple innings if necessary. That guy is not Jeff B. What about Arnie Munoz? He's doing MUCH better than Adkins, pitching in the same tiny ballpark. Adkins has a f***ing 5.58 ERA. He sucks. He's giving up a homer every six innings. He doesn't strike a lot of guys out, showing he's not fooling anyone at AAA. I'm just pissed in general, so I hope you don't think I'm pissed at you.
  16. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) Keith, Baj has been having dizzy spells over the past week, he is not 100%, nor is he equipped to throw multiple innings. There is no conspiracy theory going on here. So, instead of having a guy who can throw one inning well, we call up a guy who can throw three s***ty innings? Alrighty then. It's bulls***. Good numbers don't mean squat. Baj deserves his shot. Adkins sucks.
  17. Adkins sucks. Jeff Bajenaru, along with killing innocent babies, kicks puppies too. And kittens. And then he spits on them. That's what I'm hearing.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) No offense but I don't trust bp at all. I doubt he's just gonna throw a name at the wall and hope it sticks. It was probably just something, the name came up, and neither side pursued it. Without looking at the stats, Young's OPS can't be higher than Everett's, can it?
  19. The latest from Will Carroll of BP....
  20. Kenny... what the f***? This from BP...
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:28 AM) Every game, when I complain about Ozzie and/or KW, I'm told to have faith in the people who've gotten us this far this year. Why is everyone freaking out now? If KW does trade one of our higher prospects for Blum, then we should be upset. However, for the time being, I'm going to sleep at night with the mindset that we just upgraded our back-up 2b and have a legit back-up 3b now. Who the heck is freaking out? You're the one who's 'freaking out' on dan. He just doesn't believe that this deal is going to go through. I certainly won't call that 'freaking out'... If this deal goes through, great, if not, whatever. It's not a big deal, so long as Williams doesn't make it one (by giving up pretty much anyone of value in the minors).
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:00 AM) He's hitting lefties better than he is righties this season. What some people don't realize is that this guy can play both 3b and 2b. His OPS is abouat 175 pts higher than Willie Harris. Assuming we don't give up too much, I don't have a problem with this trade. It's a definite boost to our bench (including a switch hitter who has some pop from the right side ). Huh? On MLB.com 'splits' page for Blum, I see him having about a .265 OBP vs. lefties (there's two rows for lefties, dunno why) in 75 ABs this year. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/indivi...0398&statType=1
  23. Yippee. Career line of .253/.317/.396. Pretty useless vs. lefties. So, another guy who can hit righties. Ross Gload says hi? I swear... if any of these prospects are remotely considered 'prospects', than Kenny deserves a beating.
  24. -Berard not offered a contract/qualifying offer. He's gonna be a free agent. -Thibault offered a qualifying offer. Seems like he's the goal-keep for another year, with Andy/Leighton taking the backup. -Travis Moen traded to Anahiem for Mikael Holmqvist. -Robidas not offered a contract/qualifying offer. So, our defense is, currently -- Cullimore, Mac, Vandermeer. I'm starting to believe that Seabrook has a real good chance to make the roster. The Admiral fans over at BHZ said that Seabrook easily became the best defenseman on the roster once he was called up from juniors. They'll grab a FA defenseman, but I don't know about two -- leaving the last spot open to Duncan Keith/Anton Babchuk/Cam Barker/.... (Matt, Michael?) Barinka. Maybe even James Wisniewski (sp?) and Lasse Kukkonen.
  25. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) Colin Fraser is the real deal... after leading Red Deer in scoring and PIM, he made his way to Norfolk last year for their playoff run. Maybe not this year, but soon he's gonna be a real good 3rd/4th line center. My brother and I saw Fraser play at a prospects camp last year. He's a real sonuvvab****, and I love the guy. He actually got in a fight with another one of the prospects, as he was being a real pain in the ass the whole scrimmage, so he and this other guy dropped the gloves. Of course, Pully came out of his 'skybox' thingy and said something to break it up. It was funny, 'cause everyone booed Pully. I think it was at Johnny's Ice House. Yeah, he's gonna be that AJ Pierzynski type player -- a b**** to play against, but if he's on your team, you love him. And I agree with you on Ruutu. He's a real nice, down-to-earth type of guy. As much as Sydney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin are hyped, I wouldn't trade Ruutu for the world... I'm getting all my hockey posts out now, while my internet is still working. It's been going off and on all day, it's pissing me off, I feel like I'm back on a '94 Gateway dial-up. And, CubsSuck, to answer your questions... -Basically, yes. They don't have him under contract, but they have his rights -- for at least three years, I think. Eventually you have to sign the kid before he can enter the draft. For Europeans/Russians, that time period is extended, more along the lines of 5-6 years. That's just off the top of my head. -Hawk prospects playing for Wisconsin -- Matt Ford, Jack Skille, Adam Burish (sp?), and ... s***. I can't think of the last kid's name. -I've heard 'Skill' and 'Skill-aayy'. I'm still looking for a clarification as well.
