  1. Thumbs up to all my fellow tech geeks. thanks for the help.
  2. The push-back begins. I wont post the text of the article due to it's length.
  3. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) Exactly. They are probably running some sort of admission control program that does a few checks. This is not a technology issue of the Mac firewall versus another. Its a policy decision by the business to provide an audit trail for PCI compliance. They have to have the ability to prove that they have provided adequate security measures or get decked with fines. Their package is probably certified to run on X products, and X builds of software. thanks for the feed back. i sent the e-mail to one of the tech volunteers I work with and he said pretty much the same thing. It's a security policy thing, rather than a VPN thing... the e-mail is a bit misleading in that way. It's all starting to make sense now. I also had never heard of "PCI policies" before. so, this was a new one for me.
  4. Take a look at your local community college. They may offer some certifications (A+, Network+, Security+). I've considered going that route, but I just dont have the time or money to do it right now. Prices on certification classes and the required testing may vary.
  5. QUOTE (Nixon @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) What's with the week off? I thought LOST started late in the season so that we'd never have these breaks. I thought that too. Not sure what is going on. Maybe a production delay?
  6. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) "These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.'' I believe financial "experts" on CNBC said the same thing: .cc_box a:hover .cc_home{background:url('http://www.comedycentral.com/comedycentral/video/assets/syndicated-logo-over.png') !important;}.cc_links a{color:#b9b9b9;text-decoration:none;}.cc_show a{color:#707070;text-decoration:none;}.cc_title a{color:#868686;text-decoration:none;}.cc_links a:hover{color:#67bee2;text-decoration:underline;} The Daily Show With Jon StewartM - Th 11p / 10c CNBC Gives Financial Advice Daily Show Full Episodes Important Things With Demetri Martin Political Humor Joke of the Day

    Tech Help

While I myself am a tech guy. I have little experience with VPNs and I need some feedback. My wife recently got a promotion and as part of that, she has the ability to work from home when needed (sick daughter, snow day, etc...). As part of their solution, they offer a VPN login to their network with a remote desktop app so she can access her work computer form home. Today, she got this message: It was always my understanding that a VPN is a VPN. A firewall shouldn't be discriminating the operating system. Am I wrong?
  10. They are welcome to join the Lutheran Church... Sorry, I was just shown that video and it made my laugh... especially the Dana Carvey part. But in all seriousness, how irrational. No one ever said the Catholic church was a sane organization. Hypocritical in many ways.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 08:03 PM) Rachel Maddow with some excellently deserved scorn for the "Hoover wasn't even this dumb" spending freeze proposal. Economist: "This recession is broader, deeper and more complicated than virtually anything we have ever seen" GOP: laissez-faire... it'll fix itself
  12. I thought this was very interesting, it all seemed so futuristic in 1993... From 1993:
  13. WOW. maybe we need to revisit the "teams that will fold or move" thread. wow... that really stings.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) Rachel Maddow with some excellently deserved scorn for the "Hoover wasn't even this dumb" spending freeze proposal. My wife, who grew up in Hoovers home town.. and home to his presidential library... West Branch Iowa, actually is very adiment that Hoover is unfairly criticized for the depression. He actually had a lot of the ideas that Roosevelt ended up using, but it was too little too late. Ok, so the GOP idea to fix the economic crisis caused by a lack of demand and in which money is drying up and not being spent is to... not spend money. What a bunch of morons.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) In general, that's my stance too. I think that embryonic stem cell research allows certain types of cells to be researched that are not present at a full term baby forward. There's so much we don't know. As I said, where DO have a problem with it is if humans just make these embryos for testing purposes... I have a HUGE problem with that. If the government is going to fund that, I have serious issues. Agreed
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 04:20 PM) This is one I agree with Obama as well - ONLY if the research is being done in such a way that the embryos were not going to be used anyway (in other words, these embryos aren't "harvested" for research - and I think most people would agree with that). I have an interesting perspective on this and especially that last statement. As many of you know, I work for a church and school... a very conservative church and school. embryonic stem cell research is constantly demonized and spoken out against often from the pulpit (by often, i mean a few times a year). They constantly say that adult stem cells are better and embryonic stem research is the murder of innocent life... we believe life starts at conception (or artificial fertilization) For the longest time. I too was against embryonic stem cell research.... until i did a little digging. I got to thinking: "what is our stance on artificial insemination?" Because, if we are against embryonic stem cell research, then we clearly must be against artificial insemination because often the "leftovers" are stored until they degrade or thrown out. So, clearly that is the murder of innocent life. So, i did a little digging into what our church body stands for with regards to artificial insemination. Much to my surprise... we are in favor of it! But of course they warn about the "leftovers" and how they should be cared. So my thought was, if we are going to just let them die, shouldn't they be put to good use? People often donate their body to science after they die, or they take experimental drugs if they have little chance to live. How is this different? Every day, I get close and closer to saying it's ok. I wouldnt object.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) Ryan Sweeney would be our starting CF'er right now. Possibly, but he's not exactly lighting up Oakland. He's basically a singles hitter.
  18. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) But it is kind of funny for someone to always have to read what he is saying, don't ya think? I dont see anything wrong with that at all. You are comfortable with what you are comfortable with. I dont see people ripping Steve Jobs for having every single small detail worked out with his "Steve-notes". That's just how he is.
  19. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) I was just thinking this same thing the other day. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19663.html He's very disciplined in his message and wants every word to count. I cant fault a guy for using a script. I'm a horrible speaker off of just notes.
  20. Holy cow. i had no idea he was scheduled to make 10+ mill in 2012. DANG! I liked the trade at the time and i still do. Nick was a man without a position her.
  21. What a classy gentleman: Quick Editorial: I love Limbuagh's comments about how Obam is doing this to shift away from the economic mess that he hasnt solved yet. He dumbass, ever think Health care is PART of that problem? What else should he do? Another stimulus? You'd rip him for it. Remove every tax on every American and business? You'd rip him for the government spending money it didnt collect and raising our children's future taxes. Green Energy, HealthCare, Stimulus, Education... it's ALL tied together.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) Balta put that in the dem thread last week. oh... sorry about that. must have missed it.
  23. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) The biggest question is why are you getting married?? Run away ^^^^^^^^^ jk
