  1. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 05:27 AM) I would rather take one last crack at Manny before we go to other options. That "crack" will cost between 25 and 45mil.
  2. I have a feeling that some of us aren't local enough for our Comcast On Demand to have it.
  3. Out of curiosity, how do Kotsay's batting stats compare to most SPs in the National League? Are there any pitchers batting better than him?
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) Squat is putting up great numbers in Birmingham though. I hear he's a catcher.
  5. Papelbon rumored to be claimed by Detroit or Anaheim.
  6. Delgado is Bo Jackson, 17 years later?
  7. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) We deserve to lose this one, it's that simple
  8. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) Why, if she likes him too, can't she be the one to take the initiative to call him first? It would be just as easy for her to go through a mutual friend as it is for him. It's the "GGW Principle." Women are much more easy to hang with when they've had a few than when they are sober. She probably barely remembers everything.
  9. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) Gallaraga with Zambrano-like stomp on first base. I don't like the guy. It's his new habit. Blame Jim Joyce.

QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) yeah I thought it was bad too but I wasnt sure if it was because I went to that Hollywood Theatre in Woodridge for the first time and was distracted by all the waiters and food bulls***. So, they were having their own dinner there huh?
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) How do they know it's Brett Favre's dick? I would think John Madden's head would be in the way. Madden's been busy with Tom Brady lately.
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) It's not that there has to be a whipping boy. If there were no crappy players on this team, nobody would be complaining. We'd all be happy happy joy joy and I think almost everybody would want that. I don't know how you can't complain about Mark Kotsay. He sucks at hitting and he's is DHing the most games on this team. Chris Rongey brought this point up on the post game show, how there always seems to be one guy the Sox fans hate...well...let's run down this list. 2010 Mark Kotsay 2009 Dewayne Wise 2008 Javier Vazquez 2007 Darin Erstad 2006 Rob Mackowiak 3, if not 4, of the past 5 most hated people on this team are terrible baseball players. Kotsay is a even worse version of Darin Erstad. Ozzie keeps running this guy out there even though he hasn't proven he could hit in the past 4 months. Don't blame the fans for pointing weaknesses out, blame the players for not performing and blame Ozzie for trotting him out there. He probably read my thread.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) But for the purposes of the argument, it does not matter which team sweeps. I agree with and understand what you're saying if you want to bet on a specific result here. I made the same initial mistake. We are only concerned with splits or sweeps here though, irregardless of which teams do the sweeping. A Tigers sweep or a White Sox sweep is the same result! Math-wise I agree, sports betting/odds/percentages, I do not. Teams only sweep 25% of the time, because a split is easier to get. The starting pitchers are a larger contributing factor than an equation.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) But the Tigers losing game 1, and the Sox winning game 1 are the same things. Just as the Tigers winning game 1 and the Sox losing game 1 are the same things. Yes they are. As are Sox losing game 2 and Tigers winning game 2, Sox win 2, Det lose 2. Both #3 and #4 happening equal a split series between the same two teams. Two different types of splits remain a split, nonetheless. So, only one result - a split - can occur, no matter who wins what game. Whereas, #1 or #2 happening, while both being sweeps, they produce separate results. Tigers win 2, White Sox win 2. Of course, their balance is Sox lose 2, Det lose 2, however we are discussing odds, not math principles.
  15. Tigers sweep Tigers win game 1, lose game two Tigers lose game 1, win game two Sox sweep Sox win game 1, lose game two Sox win game 2, lose game one That's three different outcomes per team, two being a split (interchangeable).
  16. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) expectationally, 50% of the time a split should occur 50% of the time a sweep should occur it doesn't matter who is doing the sweeping - 26.2% of the time it is occuring. Seems like an anomaly. It can be argued that the anomaly is explained by the decisions regarding the second event being influenced by the outcome of the first event. True, but you're not factoring in that technically the odds are 25% sweep/50% split per team. Not both together.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) But that is canceled out by the Sox winning game one and losing game two, being the same as the Tigers losing game one and winning game two. No, they aren't canceled. They are just duplicated. The other result would be Tigers winning game 1 and Sox winning game 2. But both results are a same result, a split by two teams.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) He's not arguing for the purposes of which teams sweeps though. He's arguing that one would think there would be more sweeps (by either team) than the statistics show. There can only be a sweep or a split, irregardless of which teams do which, right? True. But splits are more likely. Twenty five percent is a fair percentage because a sweep produces two different results, while a split is one result, two times.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) I think it's the case for the sweeps too though, Jer. There are 4 possible outcomes. 1) Sox win game 1, lose game 2. 2)Tigers win game 1, lose game 2. 3) Sox win both games. 4) Tigers win both games. For the purposes of this argument, the splits are the same, as are the sweeps. 2/4 = 1/2. So it is really a 50% chance of a split or sweep. The sweeps produce two different results, though. A split is a split. But, if you want to split hairs (heh), I guess a game 1 win in a split or a game 2 win in a split, are two different things.
