  1. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) @BNightengale The #WhiteSox insist they have no intention to flip Manny Machado if they land him, but also believe other teams have made better offers to #Orioles So, who made the best offer? Supposedly the Sox, now maybe not. This is becoming pretty aggravating.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:38 AM) Daryl Van Schouwen‏Verified account @CST_soxvan 23s24 seconds ago More Hahn: "We are not looking to make any sort of move that’s aimed at simply jumping up and perhaps contending for a Wild Card or maybe even the division for one year. The focus remains on the long term. "Now, we may take some calculated risks along the way." Trading for Machado is more than a calculated risk. Depending on the package, it could be a huge risk.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) https://mobile.twitter.com/scottmerkin/stat...329771035807744 Makes sense, but how would the Sox have the best offer for Machado if they're not "robbing Peter to pay Paul" at least a little?
  4. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:16 AM) Scot Gregor‏ @scotgregor 5m5 minutes ago More Would assume any #WhiteSox trade package offer to Orioles started with Carlos Rodon I'm okay with this. Rodon and Avi? Do they need outfielders? Or would they be looking for a prospect or two with Rodon?
  5. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) Scott Merkin‏Verified account @scottmerkin Following Following @scottmerkin More Hahn: "Over the last year or so, you guys know how many of our transactions actually leaked out in advance vs. how many were perhaps a surprise or announced on White Sox letterhead for the first time. You can respond accordingly. What's he saying exactly? I think we at least heard about most of the deals (the big ones anyway) ahead of time.
  6. Okay. Maybe I can step away for a while. Get some work done...
  7. Phillies #23 prospect. Performed pretty well at AA last season.
  8. QUOTE (ChicagoHeel @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:31 AM) Nightingale The #WhiteSox have no intention of flipping Manny Machado if they land him, they say, insisting he fits into their long-term plans And I'm sure he does, but do the Sox fit in his long term plans?
  9. I was planning on being productive at work today. Damn Sox and their sneaky ways. The worst part is that nothing may be resolved today, and I'll end up mentally exhausted from this.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:16 AM) You'd pretty much be paying for a 7-month negotiation window. He can bring back a top 100 prospect at the deadline. Other rentals have throughout the years. Which gives the Sox a better chance at getting the guy long term. And that's okay provided they don't give up a ton for a chance to sign him. I believe that the Sox would have a pretty tough time signing him as a free agent, so having him be a part of the Sox culture for a while might help. Regardless, the Sox will have to willing to pay around $30 million a year for a long time.
  11. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 07:02 AM) So what are you comfortable with the Sox trading? Who is off limits? Giolito, Lopez, Moncada (duh), Kopech, Collins, Eloy, Dunning off limits. I'd be okay with Anderson, Avi, and maybe even Rodon. A couple other arms in the minors would be okay, but I'm not as familiar with some as others on this board. I would hate any deal that includes Giolito, Lopez, Eloy, or Kopech, though.
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 06:46 AM) https://twitter.com/danclarksports/status/941278096354787328 I don't know about this. Would Baltimore be willing to trade him to the Sox knowing they would flip him to a division rival? I believe that if the Sox are going to trade for Machado he'll be playing for the Sox in 2018...and hopefully beyond.
  13. So one set of eyeballs means I can put my iPad down for a while, right?
  14. An extension for Machado would have to be 7/$200 at a minimum. I would think he'd want more years though.
  15. Plenty of scrubs on Twitter saying the Sox are one of five teams who have made a trade offer for Machado. I think they're all reposting some random post.
  16. I don’t see any team giving up players the caliber of Giolito and Lopez for a year of Machado. Hopefully the Sox don’t do something like that.
  17. I’d like to hear something from raBBit. WSDave knows something, but I need more!
  18. Started The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel last night. I'm sold after the pilot. The writing is great, and Rachel Brosnahan is fantastic in the lead role.
  19. The Terror is coming to AMC in March. Really looking forward to that.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Not trying to flame (you see I've been quiet lately), but your two sentences got me thinking. I wonder how many players you can say that about in terms of "regression." There will be regression? Hmmm. ... I'd say of all the players who hit over .320 and hit 25-35 home runs you can expect regression next season. Why do we rate our own so harshly? Anybody who had a GREAT season, expect regression. Give me a percentage. 80 percent of all guys expect regression? Don't eat your own. Regression with Garcia is expected because up until last season he did not perform nearly that well nor consistently. I wouldn't expect a big regression because I do think he's figured some things out and was in better shape. He could, however, surprise us all and have another great year building off last year's success.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 11:00 AM) Please tweet, please tweet.... I would imagine his phone has been taken away.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) In terms of full disclosure, I would love to see Jose be a lifetime White Sox. He represents everything that you want in a face of the franchise type of player. And he has expressed interest in playing for the White Sox for his career. I really like the idea of a 4-5 year extension, and I believe that he'd take a little less money to stay. I wouldn't argue against $20-$22 million a year average.
  23. Unless Hahn is blown away with a proposal for Abreu, he should remain with the Sox and be extended so he'd be around for the competitive years. I think Avi could be traded for a decent package now after last year's performance, and he doesn't fit as well with the plans going forward as Abreu does. I obviously voted for Avi, but if the Sox get a haul for Abreu I would understand.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) This explains my position pretty perfectly as it stands today. By trading Abreu and Avi, this thread is worthless. It means Hahn is pushing back the years of contention (in theory) as he waits for the kids to completely overhaul the everyday lineup and pitching rotation. Presumably add some vets through free agency to that 3-4 years down the road. I have a sneaky feeling they'll be bargain type veterans, taking a shot on some relievers who don't make a lot of cash. I'm assuming our payroll is going to be mighty low for some time to come. We shall see. I don't think trading Garcia affects anything the Sox have planned. They have quite a few promising outfield prospects that could be patrolling the outfield for years. They might have to look for a veteran to play a year or so, but that's about it. Trading Abreu has some effects, but if the right deal comes along I'm sure the Sox have a contingency plan for 1st base. As far as the payroll, I think you're going to be surprised. The Sox will spend next off season, and they will be pursuing the likes of Machado and Harper.
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 10:21 AM) I’d give Abreu something like 4/$80M with a 5th year team option and call it a day. He can anchor the middle of the lineup for a big chunk of our window, serve as mentor for Moncada, Robert, & other young LatAm players, improve our sales pitch to free agents next offseason, & further establish our status as the team to sign with for future Cuban amateurs (which becomes important with capped spending). All those factors combined make him worth more to us than other teams IMO. This is what I've been thinking, too. I'm not sure he'd take an offer like that, but he has expressed wanting to play for the Sox for many years. I could see boosting those numbers a bit, and if he agrees it's a great deal for the Sox and a pretty good deal for him. If not, then the Sox could look to trade for the best deal possible. Personally I'd feel better about having him anchoring the lineup for the years when we're contending while mentoring all the young 'uns.
