  1. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) I have no idea what PIT would ask for but it won't be insane like the Dunn price. Maybe Flowers would do the trick. I've thought about Jones as well, but I was thinking Pittsburgh would want to keep him around. He's getting paid next to nothing. I wonder what type of money he'd command.
  2. I'm starting to like the idea of LaRoche a lot more.
  3. Win tonight with another good outing by Peavy then roll into Texas with a head of steam. One game at a time, but a 4-2 (or better) road trip would be great.
  4. Uh...I don't know. Just looked him up. He hasn't had many opportunities this year, but a .277 OBP last year? Yikes.
  5. Let me throw a question out there for discussion. Do you think one of the considerations about who the Sox go after is the possibility of signing said player after this year? The three names that keep coming up are Dunn, LaRoche, and Fielder. All three are in their final year of their contract (although LaRoche has a mutual option). Is there any chance the Sox try to sign any of them, and if so who's most likely to actually sign? Fielder would be the most expensive, and I don't see that happening. Dunn and LaRoche may be about equal considering they are the same age. Thinking that Sox would want to sign one of them, if they were to try to keep Konerko as well, how much do you think the Sox would be willing to spend between the two? No more than $20 million? $18 million?
  6. Viciedo looked good. He was hitting the ball hard. He needs to be playing more.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) I could say a team of former Sox wouldn't be bad. I'll start with Maggs, Carlos Lee, Garland, Swisher (god I hated him on our team), Olivo, Pods, Thome, Aardsma, Gio, Young. I'm sure there are a ton more. Well, that's fine, but you've got Carlos Lee and Pods both listed, and Lee was traded for Pods. So, you can't null a trade and get them both back. I know what you're getting at, but like someone else said, the Sox have done well with most trades.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) We'll assume that Dunn signs a 3/$36 mill extension ($10 in '11, $12 in '12, $14 in '13). This is not an argument by any means, but do you think Dunn would sign for "only" $36 million? If so, I'd have no problem with your hypothesis.
  9. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) Hell, I'd be willing to take 11-8 in the postseason this year, but I'm an easier sell. Yeah, 11 wins in the post season will be fine.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) TIFWIW, but a family member of Kenny's confirms that talks are taking place and at this point a deal is likely. Interesting. I wonder who is part of the potential deal?
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) But not talked actively about them going to the White Sox. Really? Peavy was almost traded earlier in the year, and there were those who believed (correctly) that the deal would eventually happen. And once Rios was placed on waivers, it was highly suspected that the Sox had claimed him.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) Chase Blackwood for Prince Fielder, would you do it? Well, we could also throw in Jones. Then I think it's a done deal.
  13. Buehrle didn't have his best stuff last night for sure, but the offense certainly could have tried a bit harder. Last night the offensive problem we knew was there was glaring. A big bat is needed along with a big strong lefty to swing it.
  14. And if the Sox were to actually sign Dunn after this year, you can say goodbye to several players we already figured on being gone for sure. The only way Konerko would remain was if he signed to a big discount. But having Dunn and Konerko available for 1B and DH would be nice.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 08:17 AM) Which is why his price for any team trading for him will be high...the team acquiring him needs to give up something worth substantially more than 2 draft picks. If I were the Nats, I wouldn't trade him straight up for Hudson. It'd have to be Hudson + Flowers + some A-baller that I like. That's a lot to give up. How would the picks work...what rounds, etc.?
  16. I'm not sure what the Nationals would be looking for in return, but it seems many teams covet young pitching. That said, I agree about Hudson. Are we willing to give up Flowers, though? Would they be interested in a catching prospect?
  17. I'm in the same mindset as others on this board that Dunn would be awesome in a Sox jersey, but I'd hesitate to give up very much for him considering he would be a 3 month rental. Unless the Sox could sign him to an extension...which seems unlikely considering the cash he would command.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 11:23 PM) That's my point. In a game of streaks like baseball, that s*** means nothing. We won 11 in a row and Twins were moderately s***ty and we caught up. Now if we don't start playing good ball against the AL, it'll revert back. But that math of how many we'd have to go over .500 to stand a chance was dumb. I suppose I see where you are coming from, but it's all statistics. The statistics of how many games a team must win in order to reach a certain goal change every day. It's like a production line that has a goal. In order to make a certain amount of product in a set amount of time, a line has to produce X amount a day. If they make 10% more of X one day, it'll take less per day for the rest of that time period to reach the goal. So, how many games the Sox must win over the next week, two weeks, whatever, changes depending on what happens today.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Unfortunately if you have an ideal part time player on Ozzie Guillen's roster then you have to prepare to see him play way more than he should. Good point. The Ozzie-factor.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) It's frustrating seeing anything that states the Sox might not want to add to their offense because Kotsay needs regular at bats to stay sharp. The whole point of having him on the roster is that he's a veteran pinch hitter. If anything, he's been better when he got sporadic playing time. Right. He's a career pinch hitter...one of the best at being a pinch hitter. I would have absolutely no problem keeping around in that capacity.
  21. Even Ozzie can't believe that the team can win the divsion with Kotsay and Jones at DH...can he?
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) I love the posts about math and what it takes to win 90, etc. Last week or so somebody posted what we would have to do and what the Twins would have to do for us to catch them. If they played .500 we'd have to have some incredible record. Those stats are nice but don't mean s*** in baseball as our 11-game win streak proved. Actually, those stats meant something back when they were posted. Now the stats are different. If someone had said (posted) that it would take an 11-game winning streak to get within 1.5 games, we'd have all laughed and chortled and pointed fingers.
  23. Just make sure you haven't been drinking before you ask for something to be changed. That's how you end up with a user name like mine.
