Chicago White Sox. Kansas City Royals. 7:10 PM CST
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) No boos. Manny is old news now and the team is close to being yesterday's news as well. If we don't sweep KC, as Minnie did with no problem, the yawns will continue. There will be plenty of boos for the team if we lose tonight, though. Minnie kicked the living s*** out of KC. If we play around with the Royals and lose, we will hear boos. But not for Manny. He's already been with the team for a week or so. He's old news. I almost completely agree, Greg. If tickets are going for 5 bucks on stubhub, not many people are interested in seeing Manny just to see Manny. And I would expect boos if they lay an egg against KC. I do think, however, there will be a mix of boos and cheers for Manny his first time up.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) I am not an AJ fan but who replaces him? Also Quentin has zero value as a trade option now so it is best to hang on to him. I think if AJ goes Danks is part of a deal for a catcher. I've been thinking about that, too. I mean, Castro is an option, but I don't know how well he'd do as an everyday starter. Flowers doesn't seem to be ready, and Lucy probably isn't starting catcher material. I would like VMart, but he would most likely cost too much for the Sox. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if AJ is signed again, but then we'd be having the same conversation in September, 2011. I'll have to poke around and see what other catchers are out there that could be had.

6-0 and 0-6
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) I'll start by saying that I already believe this season to be over. Even if I didn't, the White Sox would still NEED to sweep the Twins series to have a chance. Gaining one game against them wouldn't be enough. Even though failing to sweep wouldn't mathematically eliminate them, I can't see how anyone doesn't understand that a sweep is entirely necessary. I'm starting to believe that the season is over, too. That's not to say I won't watch the games and cheer them on. I will, and I won't say it's over until they are officially eliminated. Looking at this next week and a half, realistically, I don't see the Twins losing enough to allow the Sox to catch up. I think the Sox will win most of these games, but I don't feel good about the Twins series. I would not be surprised one bit if Minny takes 2 of 3. If the Sox go 7-2 over the next games, it won't mean much if the Twins do the same or even slightly worse. And I'm not sure the Twins are going to slow down. Who knows, maybe they will hit a wall like the Sox did in Detroit. Long story short, all we can do is cheer our team on and hope they win every game. All the while, we also have to cheer for Cleveland, Oakland, Detroit, KC, and Toronto. I still think the season will come down to the last 5 or 7 games...let's just hope the Sox are trying to eliminate the Twins at that point.

6-0 and 0-6
No matter how you slice it, the Sox need to sweep KC and hope Cleveland comes through and plays spoiler. Going into the series against the Twins 5 games or less out would be acceptable. Then they have to take at least 2 of 3, but we're almost to the point of needing the sweep. The next 9 games may tell the season. I think it's either going to be over or an extreme nailbiter come Monday the 20th.

Frightening Discovery
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 08:48 AM) But how many really important or high-leverage/pressure situations has Linebrink been in this year? Maybe 3 or 4? You could take DJ Carrasco's stats from 2 years ago and probably compare them favorably too, but it wouldn't mean very much in the overall scheme of things. I suppose you're right. But, I think Linebrink has been used more often as of late is higher pressure situations (as compared to earlier in the season). I'm not saying Linebrink is a good pitcher, but maybe he's not as bad as we may think...when compared to some of our other pitchers.

If anyone here still likes Teahen...
If nothing else, Mark Teahen could make the circuit as a Ray Liotta look-a-like.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) You were saying you didn't want to acquire the bum at all at the time! I was going to point that out, but I figured it would have been fruitless. Oh, and I fixed that for ya.

If anyone here still likes Teahen...
I'd be fine with Mark Teahen off the bench...much like Kotsay was last year. But the Sox way overpaid on his extension to make him a sub/PH. However, you have to wonder if KW would recognize that failure of a signing and either trade him away for nothing or be okay with him being a sub/PH.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 07:34 AM) Fangraphs is guessing he'd wind up in the 4/$48 range. Probably too much for the Sox to pay. Plus, is he still a full time catcher?

Frightening Discovery
Speaking of Bobby Jenks and frightening discoveries: Jenks 52.2 IP 54 hits 26 ER 61 K/18 BB 4.44 ERA 1.367 WHIP Linebrink 48 IP 46 hits 24 ER 45 K/13 BB 4.50 ERA 1.229 WHIP And I think Linebrink is more maligned here...especially by those who still love Bobby.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) I was not serious. I figured as much, but if they would have had 8 baserunners with 75% of them scoring, that'd be okay.

So Lillibridge is in at 2nd. Maybe he should have just hit instead of Kotsay.
