  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) I very much hope so. And it's also likely they were usually behind due to their s***ty offense, and were not seeing too many passes. I agree, I think when you play the Jags you know their offense sucks so bad, that as long as you dont have a -4 turnover margin you are likely to win. And Tucker has been a guy who has been talked about for HC jobs, so if Trestman and Co are huge failures, at least you got a guy like Tucker to step in.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) I liked the Jags D, seemed like they got bogged down from a horrible offense. However, for being on the field that much they were not good at getting takeaways. They had 24 FF+INTs, the bears had 50. I loved that edge we had, and I'd hate to see it go away. http://www.jaguars.com/team/coaches/Mel-Tu...cf-aa28e61f09a7 The part that is exciting is that Tucker's defense has generally been very good against the pass and getting interceptions. You add that with the Bears ability to create fumbles, you could have something really good. http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/stats/_/type/t...i/chicago-bears The Bears had 24 picks this year, which is about what Tucker's defenses averaged in Cleveland. Its the 29 forced fumbles that really are a huge difference. I am willing to hope that the Jaguars lack of ints, turnovers was partially because the Jags suck so bad that no one takes risks.
  3. Damn you Kyle, you posted that while I was going back to get my quote about Mel Tucker being a name the Bears should look into. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel_Tucker Tucker has a pretty good pedigree. Played for Alvarez, GA for Saban, DB coach for Tressel and Co-DC. DB Coach/DC at Cleveland and DC at Jaguars. He probably will run a slightly more aggressive cover 2, less MLB deep drops.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) Sounds like Jags DC Mel Tucker may be available. Id like to see the bears look into him, he was a name rumored for the Wisconsin HC job and uses a cover 2 system. Then again anything that has Jaguars next to it scares me. http://www.rotoworld.com/sports/nfl/football Makes sense
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) If they were dating but trying to keep their relationship a secret, you somehow find that irrelevant? I think the gay cover up is the 2nd most plausible explanation. That being said, I think that the fact they were friends supports both arguments (con or cover-up) which is why its not relevant to which of those is more plausible. In both scenarios I would expect Te'o to be friends with the person. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) He brought it up himself in at least one instance. And also embellished. I think that its pretty clear Te'o did tell a few tall tales. Whether he was doing it to try and cover up that he had been conned, or whether he was doing it to try and get more attention, that is the question. Im pretty confident that there are many times Te'o implied something that did not happen. Whether he blatantly lied or was just embellishing is a matter of opinion, but I do not think there is any way you can break down the transcripts and come away thinking that Te'o was 100% honest. He was definitely letting people jump to conclusions, even when he knew they were false.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:22 PM) Were his phone records ever pulled out to prove this? Because I can say I stayed up and talked to a friend for 6 hours last night and adamently and vehemently defend it in the public eye, but it's not true. What person, let alone star football player, has 8 hours where they can talk? And for some reason, you seem to fail to acknowledge the fact that he knew Ronaiah Tuiasosopo BEFORE this all went down. That's a little fishy too, isn't it? Thats why I said that someone should pull his phone records. The problem is that this is not a criminal investigation, therefore I dont believe Deadspin, etc can get his records. They shouldnt be available under a FOIA (Freedom of information of act request). The part in bold (to me) isnt relevant. The only way Ronaiah Tuiasosopo was able to try and pull this con, was that he already knew Te'o. If they had no familiarity, Te'o wouldnt have trusted him about this girl. That is why the church/pastor con is so potent. People have a certain implicit trust of them, because they are "men of god". Look, Te'o could be behind it all. Im just saying with the limited information available, my conclusion is that it was a scam by Tui's father. I could be right, I could be wrong. Well find out.
  7. This article http://deadspin.com/5976762/manti-teos-tea...ut-lennay-kekua talks about his teammates. http://deadspin.com/5976762/manti-teos-tea...ut-lennay-kekua "That player believes Te'o initially fell for a hoax, but carried on with it for the publicity even after he discovered the truth." I think that it could be true, Te'o tried to use the hoax on him, to get better publicity. I just dont think Te'o created this from the start, that is my main point.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) So how come when Te'O is fitting the exact same behaviors you describe, you continue to just act like it was others who were the conmen. What was his motive? To be the Johnny Fairplay of NCAA? Someone would have to correct me if Im wrong, but he starts mentioning this girl before he was a Heisman candidate right? He didnt just mention her and then kill her off. From my understanding hed been talking about her to teammates etc for quite a while. I just dont think Te'o is smart enough or dedicated enough to run such a long con. I think a Pastor is. I could be wrong, but my instincts are telling me that Te'o was duped. (Now Ive also said Te'o at some point keeps the lie up, but that is something different.)
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) Why did Te'o tell reporters before the Heisman Trophy presentation on December 8 that he "lost both my grandparents and my girlfriend to cancer," when two days earlier the woman he thought was dead called him on his cellphone? Why? Because if he truly was conned, you just lie until the cows come home because you never want to admit that you were the dumbass who sent $50,000 to the beautiful model in Kenya so that she would come marry you in the US. Its just way easier to stick with, she is dead. There is an explanation for everything. I just havent heard a great motive for Te'o to do this from the start. There were plenty of other ways to get publicity, and trying to predict the "double death" would have been to speculative to really be a great plan.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) But they already had access, they were family friends before the GF hoax. But after the hoax, Te'o considered him "his family" and he was calling them every week to check on them. They were reading him letters from his dead GF. When it looks like a scam, smells like a scam, I call it a scam. It may not be, Te'o may have been involved. But I just dont think he is smart enough. I dont think he has what it takes. Well see, but Ive been involved in a lot of "pranks". I cant name 1 prank where I could find someone who would have been willing to stay up hours on the phone just for the fun of it. They would have had to be paid and that means there was some monetary motive. The worst part is, the answers can be found pretty easily. You can get phone records, you can find out if Te'o was really talking to someone. If he wasnt, hes guilty as sin. If he was talking, lets find out when those conversations started, stopped, etc.
  11. I really think its Tuiasosopo's father. If you go to his church website, http://mountzionsite.com/special_event_pho...2/dsc_0026.html youll notice some odd things: SPORTS VIDEOS, SPORTS PAGE, RELIGIOUS TALENT VIDEOS These guys were trying to use their religious access to Samoans to get them to hire them as agents, etc. Look at the father's comment today: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-01...page-manti-te-o (Edit) This was in response to Balta's post where it says Te'o want the first. The others I guarantee were Samoan's like the AZ Cardinals player, in an attempt to get money, access, whatever.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 11:40 AM) Well yea, that is how most if not all coaches roll. A lot of Lovies staff worked with him with the Rams and Tampa I agree. I just was saying thats why Trestman's coaches are guys from a few years ago, because he has not been in the NFL for a few years. For example if I had to guess DC, Jim Bates, Dave Wannstedt or Chuck Bresnahan would be guys in the running. (edit) Looks like Bresnahan was hired last week, so thats unlikely.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) I know, I'm just trying to figure out where his contacts are coming from. It doesn't seem like his dolphins days really held any long-standing relationships. But it looks like he was friends with a lot of people with Sean Payton and from his old Raiders and Niners days more than any others. There are no young bright minds coming in, these are people who have been in the NFL for a long time and rarely moved up. It'll be interesting to see. Well between Kromer and Cavanaugh, they are both guys Trestman actually coached with previously. Kromer and Trestman coached at the same time with the Raiders. Cavanaugh and Trestman coached at the same time with the 49ers. So it seems that Trestman really values actually having worked with the people.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 11:08 AM) He seems to come up a lot around Sean Paytons staff. And none of them are leaving. He just doesnt have the same contacts as a guy who has been in the NFL for the last 6 years. Hes just not familiar. That isnt necessarily a bad thing. Being a copycat isnt always the best.
  15. Trestman has basically no relationships with current NFL coaches. It makes perfect sense that he is hiring guys that he was familiar with in the 90s.
  16. The Bears were never going to hire any coach like Chip Kelly. Emery is a brand new GM. He is not going to hire a coach who is going to want almost complete control. This is why the names associated with the Bears were guys who did not have a lot of leverage. The only finalist who did, Arians, was hired by another team. And Kelly is going to be an interesting experiment in the NFL. I wouldnt have wanted him for the Bears, his system would make no sense with what the Bears have.

    Fringe finale tonight.
  18. Sounds like Jags DC Mel Tucker may be available. Id like to see the bears look into him, he was a name rumored for the Wisconsin HC job and uses a cover 2 system. Then again anything that has Jaguars next to it scares me.
  19. The worst part about most of those Illini guys is that a good amount of them had Wisconsin offers and they chose Illinois. They were the guys Bo Ryan wanted, so who knows what the hell happens to these kids.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) Yeah, that was what CTL says. Who knows what is true Yeah its impossible to speculate. Just would rather have not read that haha
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 06:18 PM) CTL just said if Arians was hired, Whisenhunt would have bee the OC and Russ Grimm the line coach. For the bears?
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) Badger you just love to argue. I envision you hitting post and saying to yourself, "boom, lawyered" I dont really like to argue. I just dont like people getting railroaded. Many of the most important issues to me I wont even discuss on the internet because I dont want to get involved in the year long argument that will ensue. My preference is that I make a point, people agree, and then I get to leave.
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 05:04 PM) The part in bold should be true regardless of how this plays out. At some point Te'o knew that the media was presenting an embellished story about his relationship. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) Yes, but it was clearly a false implication. An indirect lie, but a lie nevertheless. That's all that matters. I know its your thing to be contrarian, but whether he's a "victim" or not, he's still clearly a liar, which is the only thing those of us you seem to be challenging are really saying. Im not challenging that. You made a statement "That, and the meeting with her that he spoke of at the USC game the year before (in November 2010) makes at least two in person contacts he's acknowledged on the record." That I dont necessarily agree with. I think that someone could have jumped to the conclusion he had actually met her, but when you read the actual transcript he never actually said it. I know Thamel is a journalist, but a lot of his questions did not have a good follow up that would have shed light into the situation. What Im saying is that I dont know when Te'o began to lie. I think most can agree after December 6 he had to be lying. Its just a question of when he was being interviewed by Thamel, was he telling the truth but trying to avoid admitting to an online relationship, or was he completely fabricating. To me those are 2 different scenarios. And Im not a contrarian by choice. Sometimes I am surprised when I am in the minority.
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 05:52 PM) He just said that she saw him at the game. He probably hoped you would think they met up at that game, but all he said was she saw him. She probably direct messaged him on Twitter after that. Yeah, when I read the actual quotes of the transcript, I can not find 1 statement where he conclusively states that he actually met her or even saw her with his own eyes.
  25. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) My point was more that on the anniversary of their first "date," they presumably went on an actual date, which would be more likely to occur on a non-football Saturday. That, and the meeting with her that he spoke of at the USC game the year before (in November 2010) makes at least two in person contacts he's acknowledged on the record. He said they were acquaintenaces then friends before that (for a total of four years), which could suggest more meetings. However, Swarbrick said yesterday that their relationship was excludively an on-line one, so somebody is lying or seriously mistaken. What quotes do you read as conclusively stating he met her? When I read the thamel quotes, it seemed to be clear that Te'o was implying he met her, but going out of his way to never specifically refer to an actual meeting or what they actually did together. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-f...nd-hoax-quotes/ Notice he has no specific details for any meeting. She saw "him". And here is another odd part of the transcript: Notice Te'o didnt freak or even say anything when Thamel said hed look into it. And then the most specific information about him meeting her, was the Wake Forest game. And look at the timing "She was just cleared" meaning that as soon as ND said she could come, she dies so she cant come.
