  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 09:55 AM) The chicken is usually added in with a ton of other things so I don't even taste it, it's just kind of there. Not ideal, but it works for a college student. Yea I may look into this more, I'm actually a pretty good cook as long as I have the time to mess around. Just gets tough balancing work/school/college life all while trying to workout more. I find it hard to believe you don't have time to cook/eat in a way more proper than boiling chicken and freezing it for a weeks supply at a time. I was in college at one time, taking 18-24 credit hours per tri-mester, while working 25 hours a week at an Internet company...and I found time to cook, not to mention a lot of other things... I have an idea...spend less time here and you'll have time to cook properly.
  2. Hahah, those videos were hilarious. "Two buttons or less, though...we don't want to end up looking like Steve Harvy" -- awesome. "Rainbow colored fear pellets", when referencing what Skittles are. -- awesome.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 09:00 AM) The Daily Show did a good job of making fun of the media over this. Is there a video of it online?
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 08:51 AM) Eh? I think maybe I used poor wording. What you quoted tells me that SCOTUS can and should be able to strike down ELEMENTS of the law, without striking down the whole thing. There is no clause like what you were hinting at before. The issue is the law is unsustainable and impossible to fund without the mandate.
  5. Not sure where to put this, but apparently advertisers are quietly returning to Rush. http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/st...EKhS_story.html Which is pretty much what I expected.
  6. Ok...I'm going to be the first "white guy" to say it aloud now...because it's reached the point of cliche. Regardless of your race, religion or tribal affiliation, if you weren't already wearing a "hoodie" and carrying an Ice Tea (like Lostfan), on twitter, on facebook, on the news, in public, or elsewhere in order to make a statement...stop and don't bother. It's a bandwagon of "look at me" now, and you missed your opportunity to be original. Thank you for your time. -The Cliche Police
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) Because honestly, it's not the responsibility of "journalists" to make sure that "Grainy security camera videos from the police garage" don't get released, its the police department's responsibility. If they're leaking it to you, you might as well assume they're leaking it to 17 other networks and get yours out there first, because you're probably right. Not a matter of journalistic standards to me, much more a matter of police practices. It's both, but I agree it falls more on the police department. The police shouldn't have released it, and the "journalists" shouldn't have aired it on a hard news broadcast (if that's what was done, anyway). Something like this belongs on opinion shows or comedy central...when aired on a news broadcast it has "factual" weight it otherwise wouldn't.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) Really, without the Court having written this new standard by which they're interpreting Congress can't do that, you'd have written a completely different law. No part of it would have been constructed that way. The author isn't kidding...the mandate is essential to that bill. The bill doesn't exist without that premise. This is true, and I laid out why in a previous post. Insurance only works when a larger pool are paying in than the insurance company is paying out in claims...otherwise they insurance company operates at a loss, and companies that operate at a loss go bankrupt and disappear. This goes for any sort of healthcare, including Government operated healthcare, where the income/other taxes they'd require HAS to cover their expenses, or again, it becomes insolvent. Even non-profit insurance companies cannot operate at losses. Without the mandate, the attached revisions, primarily the pre-existing clause, becomes infeasible for the insurance companies to operate... TL;DR: Without the mandate, the pre-existing clause would allow you everyone to never bother with insurance...until they're sick, hurt, or suddenly need it. Insurance markets cannot work if nobody is paying in until they need payouts.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) All of these statements are why that video never should have been released, because everyone's going to try to draw some conclusion from his behavior there (does he look like he's concussed? Is he bleeding badly? Bandaged? No? Guilty!) and really there's no context to anything, so honestly you shouldn't draw any conclusion from it, but it's now officially all we have. Agreed. Releasing this video just made a few peoples lives harder, but odds are the EMT's are going to be brought in for questioning now, disrupting their lives when all they did was their job. The police that already issued the report will probably be asked the same questions for the 50th time, etc... The problem with the video is it's not all that clear, it's grainy, and even the newscaster that released it said in so many words you can't tell much from it...hell, my iPhone could have recorded better video than that. So, you're right...why'd they release it? Once again poor journalism standards abound. It was for ratings and controversy, not for the good of anyone, or the story itself.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 11:48 PM) I have a feeling that Zimmerman's claims are going to wind up being exaggerated bulls***. It probably is exaggerated, but the only person that knows that is Zimmerman himself, and since he already has a lawyer, the odds of him incriminating himself are almost zero. Unless you can get Zimmerman to change his story or admit he's lying, there is no other living witness.
  11. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 10:52 PM) Im actually quite good on the grill, it's just finding the time (I only have one of the smaller Weber grills, so doing the amount of chicken I usually cook at once, around 5 pounds, takes a few hours usually including prep and clean up while boiling takes 30 mins max). I love to marinade chicken breasts in lemon juice and fresh garlic over night then grilling it, so tender and tasty, great for fajitas. My apartment makes these "diet" meals which are tupperware containers with brown rice and cut up boiled chicken that you can pull out to make an individual meal, which is where the fried rice/meal 2 comes from typically. The usual way of eating it is cooking the eggs on the side and microwaving the tupperware container then adding cottage cheese and spices to taste. Find the time. Boiled chicken tastes like s***. There are so many healthy, low fat, not to mention very tasty meals you can be eating, none of which contain any sort of boiled meat. You're finding the time to work out and exercise, find the time to cook right, too...boiled chicken. Yuck. I'd rather just eat "normal" high fat meals if that was the only "diet" alternative available.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) Y2hh, I agree the video isnt conclusive, but as of now its the only primary evidence I have. What is more interesting is that the police wanted to charge him with manslaughter. Yea, I read that yesterday at some point, have to agree with you at the moment, sounds like the prosecutor didn't want a case that wasn't a sure win.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) Balta, That is interesting. The first thing I tried to see was his nose, the second was blood spatter (couldnt find any) and the third was the back of his head. Paramedics treated him at the scene, but he refused to go to the hospital for further treatment. I'm sure the details are in their (the emts) medical reports.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 11:51 AM) I obviously don't give two s***s about Taylor Swift or Rihanna. I'm using it as an example. He knows that. Edit: I hope.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 11:38 AM) You've done it. You've posted a political issue in the filibuster that I simply cannot possibly care about. Congratulations. I'm going to the gym. Only he's pretty much right.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 11:03 AM) I don't know specifically what the Aryan Brotherhood is. I was just going for the polar opposite of the Black Panthers. My point is that if a famous white person or group openly put a bounty out on a black man, or tweeted his address to the masses to incite violence against the person, it'd be kind of a f***ing enormous story. No doubt. heh
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 10:42 AM) I don't have a problem with people drawing attention to themselves on the House floor as long as its not against House rules. If they made up a new rule in order to kick him out, that troubles me. I doubt they did...it just seems unprofessional. Draw attention to yourself in that position via your words...not dressing like a 17 year old...when you're not, even when it's a mere show of support. What if Martin had been wearing a speedo when this happened...still appropriate of Rush? No. Rush needs to be professional in that arena...this isn't some side show...it's f***ing congress.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) I have a large sum in a credit union account also, but that credit union is going to be a pain to access and close the accounts if I can take the next step and find a permanent job, so I keep a good sum at BofA which is going to be much more accessible to make a down payment to a house, since no matter where I go I can go into BofA and find a branch within 100 miles or so. But, that also means I have to deal with BofA. I'm basically in the same position...but the convenience of being able to access my money trumps my dislike of the "big bank" industry.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) Is that against House rules? If it isn't, then i'll be annoyed, if it is, then Meh. It's probably viewed as unprofessional and disrespectful of the position...and in that environment, I'd have to say it is. That was nothing more than Rush trying to get people to look his way. Meh is right.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 10:10 AM) Seriously, that is bizarre casting. But equally bizarre (though not as potentially offensive), they are saying John Cusack to play Richard Nixon. WTF? It seems like purposeful miscasting for political and "hey, look at us" reasons to pop an easy/quick rating in both cases. Neither reason a very good one...other than a short term rating pop or some cheap advertising, it'll probably end up falling flat.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 10:32 AM) Nope, just have an account there that I keep because of the temporary status of my current job. They're my "bank", too...but that account only exists for paying bills, and because it's the closest bank to my house. We don't actually "keep" money there for anything other than a convenient place so it can be spent. My actual savings and other accounts are all etrade.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 10:17 AM) Nothing to do with financial news. I just love the fact that Bank of America now operates a system where your local branch no longer ever has to pick up its own phone to answer questions from its customers. If they don't pick up their phone, you're immediately routed to a call center that cannot provide you with information on your local branch because that call center is in fact not your local branch. Oh, and they've removed virtually every possible means to submit a complaint through their website. Even if they do nothing about it, that's usually a decent way to make a customer feel better. Had to go through their online website technical support chat to be able to do so because that's the only thing that allows you to actually type what you want. I can't wait until I can find a permanent position and be done with these guys. You work for BoA?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 07:45 AM) Ok, I actually don't get the joke? Me either.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) For the purposes of this discussion, it would have to be aggravated. I don't believe a non aggravated version actually exists in modern law. Even the wiki article says toward the end that assault is basically assault no matter what.
  25. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) oh wow, what a dumbass. i hope he gets sued big time. I'd expect something like this to get more attention...but I'm not surprised it hasn't so far. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/tray...troversy-304775
