I wonder how good his secondary stuff is with his arm angle. That article seems to make it seem its not nearly as bad as one would believe reading the scouting report on him.

Who are some options for us at SS in 2008
GoodAsGould replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) I love how people think Uribe's D is so super solid! Wow. I guess its good when you compare it to Cintron, but he's one of the worst defensive SS's I've seen in a while. You have no clue what your talking about. Uribe is one of the better fielding SS's in the league right now. So unless all you watch are clips of Ozzie Smith or Vizquel when he was young, you have no clue. -
QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) yep. if we would of still had c-lee, we wouldnt have a 2005 championship banner Thats utter bulls***. Maybe we would have maybe we wouldnt. But your basicly going with would the difference between Carlos and Pods offensively outdo the difference between Iguchi and whoever played 2B. Even though 05 was the one season Pods was actually good for us he did miss 30 or so games and if I remember had a less than spectacular 2nd half. Iguchi had an avg. season nothing special, just did good dealing with having Pods running all the time for better or worse ahead of him. Willie Harris probably would have been the starting 2B if not Iguchi and his numbers really arent that much worse and who knows what they would have been like if he was an everyday player. Without doubt less HR's but possibly more SB's, and similar OBP. Infact in 04 when Willie had a good amount of ab's and games he put up an identical OBP. Now obviously Iguchi is or I should say was the better 2B in 05 and Carlos was the better LF in 05 offensively, which is the biggest drop-off you got to ask yourself. Iguchi to Willie Harris or Lee to Podsenick. In my opinion its between Clee and Pods, and Clee's numbers prob would have been better if he didnt switch leagues having to face guys he has never seen before on a daily basis.

Oh well, besides Tank Johnson its good to know the Bears overall seem to take good character guys so we wont have to worry about impact players missing games and making the franchise look bad. Even Tank Johnson of the guys who been suspended seems to have learned the most of the experience and willing to change his life. Also the only one who seemed more than willing to serve his suspension.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:56 PM) the white sox drafted like 5 black players, have they ever in their life drafted a black player outside of malone. I guess even though the black player is harder to control the whitesox are willing to risk it Good ole Garry Sheffield

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) does anyone expect Griffith not to sign? Does he want to go to college? With him and Poreda, I like our draft. Although, I would of liked to see both a 2B and SS taken in the first 5 rounds but you can't go wrong with pitching and the Sox drafted a lot of that. If and when these players sign, are most assigned to A ball or are they assigned to Chicago's affiliates based on team needs? They are assigned to where the whitesox think they need to be. You will see most of the highschool guys start off in the rookie leagues Bristol/Great Falls. For the college guys most of them well be in lowA Kannapolis or HighA Winston Salem. Some college guys might start off in the rookie leagues only to be promoted quickly.

Well i think the major difference is there is so many ????'s regarding the whole dog fighting thing and Vicks involvement in it all. But with Pacman you know he was at the strip club, you know he punched a stripper in the face, and you know he told a bouncer that he would die or some crap and next thing you know the guy is shot and paralyzed. And like you said when you have such a low opinion on someone in the first place them adding on to it isnt going to help their case.
-
What he is saying is baseball drafts are different than nba/nfl where your going to expect to get an impact player in the 1st round. Outside of a select few in any draft and even those few it has to almost be a success for a draft pick to have any effect in the majors at all. You dont judge a team by the first round in baseball you draft it by all its rounds.

QUOTE(max power @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) How hypocritical. Maggs not included? I would cheer the loudest for him. Not every time he comes to bat, mind you. Just on his first trip back. Maggs left on worse terms than most.

Obviously its impossible for you to know yet but when you can would nice to know what the Sox's plans are regarding his secondary stuff and his arm angle.

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) Couldnt agree more, there are very few bigger "ME" players than Carlos Lee. This team does not win a ring with him on the roster, in the clubhouse, in the field. Yes, I said it. Great hitter yes, but my praise stops there. Carlos Lee is not the type of player I'd ever want on this team, because thats the least of his cares..... team. I do wonder if he'll ask the Astros motorcoach to stop off on 355, so he can take a leak and re-live the old memories. I won't be booing him, Ive already gave him enough grief at Cubs games in the bleachers, but I guess its pretty safe to say I'm happy that we aren't overpaying his lazy azz. People forget that this trade didnt just bring Pods and Viz. Allowed us to sign Iguchi, AJ, and Hermanson. RING. Well Viz wasnt all that great, could of plugged in a number of guys and got same result. Hermanson and AJ were both brought in very cheaply so I dont think they would of been a problem to sign with or without Clee's contract on the team. Iguchi your probably right, but he was a ? going in so it wasnt like he was guaranteed to be better than even a willie harris.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:52 AM) Im not arguing that Pacman is or is not a douche bag, Im just saying that he hasnt been charged with anything and he still had a suspension by the NFL, meaning that being found guilty or not guilty in court doesnt matter in Roger Goodells world. Well I just think its a totally different situation with Vick than it was with Pacman. I think Vick is going to have to face some sort of suspension regardless of what happens in the courts just dont know the length. Also Vick is different from all the other players suspended in the fact he is the face of the franchise and one of the biggest stars in the NFL.

After a day I like our first 2 picks even if Poreda was a bit of a reach but the last 3 I think are all career minor leaguers. It seems guys are adding changeups/cutters/etc. all the time now and having them be good pitches, and I think our organization has some excellent pitching coaches which definitely helps. I think the first thing is they are going to have Poreda pitch more upright which will naturally help his secondary pitches and than who knows the possibility. As for the 2nd pick he is the guy I really like. I think he will be a near top of the rotation guy if all goes well and who knows he is a highschool guy so his fastball might add some more velocity as he fills out more. Actually both our first 2 picks might improve their fastballs since Poreda is relatively new to baseball and once he learns how pitching with an upright arm angle might help.

I thought it was a bit harsh for the crime she did. In some cases celebrities get off a lot easier than they should but in this case I thought she got punished more than she deserved because of the celebrity status. Now on her getting out early because of emotional issues or whatevr, I think thats kind of bogus.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 09:01 AM) PacMan Jones hasnt been found guilty of anything yet, has he? And he still had the hammer come down. The NFL is on an image kick lately, and Vick hasnt done anything to help that image in a few years. Bringing bongs on a plane(jewelry case, yeah right), fighting dogs, spreading STDs, battery, he is everything the NFL is taking a stance against rolled into one. PacMan even without the shooting that took place that night still beat up a women. Not 2 mention the sheer amount of times he has been arrested. Than he says he will stay clear of strip clubs and the night before he meets the commisioner for an appeal he goes to a strip club.

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:02 AM) Maybe eventually, wireless cars...that would be sweet with a good infrastructure set up. That would be a long way off if ever. I dont think ever because in my opinion the "car of the future" isnt going to be an electric powered car.

That would be almost an intrigueing lineup but you got to believe we could do better than Terrero in RF. I dont have a list of f/a's but shouldnt be too hard to find a guy better than Terrero. Now that could change if Terrero gets some playing time this season enough to warrant a starting gig next year. -
QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:08 AM) I just wish they'd get off the fascination with drafting pitcher after pitcher, when we have no infielders to bring up-no catchers worth a darn, and a history of not being able to develop pitchers they draft. Eh, almost any team is going to draft pitchers more at the begining than hitters. And We have had recent first round hitters with Fields/Anderson.
-
So this was the draft of guys with a fastball and nothing else. Maybe next year we take a step further and get guys with a fastball and actual secondary stuff . But like I said earlier our organization seems very good at teaching 2 pitches in particular with the changeup and cutter. Maybe if they work with Poreda he can develop both those pitches and since he is relatively new to baseball we might even see a better fastball than advertised by the time he reaches the majors.

Carlos Lee was always my favorite player, I hated the trade passionately and if it wasnt for the WS win I prob still wouldnt be over it. I always liked Magglio but Frank Thomas and El Caballo were my fav guys. I still think that 04 team if Magglio/Thomas stay healthy with the offense provided by Carlos and Rowand that season as well as Uribe we would have been a force. Not 2 mention Konerko but I dont remember the kind of season he had an 04.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 06:27 AM) Good god you need to get over yourself. I know you are mad with the way the Sox have been playing lately, but the stuff you have been posting lately is just about unreadable. Do us all a favor and either count to ten before you post, or get a new hobby besides Soxtalk. lol well said , on top of that I keep getting confused as him by some posters too making it worse

According to that article Poreda was the target all along. And for some reason they all thought he had a chance of being taken before us too. Kind of odd since he wasnt on anyones mock to even be in the 1st round or supplemental draft for all I know. Why is it we get all excited for lame pitching prospects. Although atleast this time it seems like we took a guy with top of the rotation potential if everything goes right.
-
This guys is new to pitching of course his numbers arent going to be out of this world. The reason the minors are present is for guys to work on stuff like secondary pitches. I have no problem taking a guy that can possibly hit 94-97 consistently from the left side. We seem to be an organization that teaches a good changeup/cutter too so we'll see if some pitches are added to his repitore.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:48 AM) How about the kids who had someone whipped at them? Did they deserve that too? oh cry some more, from the video they seemed to be all fine. Especially since they were all cheering him on afterwards too

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 07:06 AM) Who was the Sox minor leaguer a few years back who put up HUGE HR numbers at A ball after repeating it a couple of times, got moved up to AAA and sucked, and was out of our system after that season? Im pretty sure I know who your talking about, his name escapes me but last time I checked he was with the Orioles organization.
