I think Spurs win pretty easily both ways, maybe Detroit would of made it 5 or even 6 but I still think it would be pretty one-sided and obvious from the get go who would win. -
This is why we have an illegal immigration problem.

I realize i made a steriotype in that last response but I figured if all of you were going to make one than whats the harm in making one back. And after being here for a few years now and reading enough about posters you get the general idea of their type of background. And I didnt say americans didnt work deadend menial labor jobs, just the majority of those type of jobs are filled with illegal immigrants and if your a US citizen your atleast getting minimal wage and probably more with the increase of danger in the job. Also a janitor as much as it isnt a pleasant job persay it sure as hell beats working in a factory under hazardous conditions. Why dont you guys venture out and take a look at some of the working conditions these illegal immigrants are working in and maybe that will change your opinion. Obviously there are some bad apples who are lazy etc. but where in the world is there not. I will say this however, although some may find it hypocritical, I dont agree that a person born from two illegal immigrants in america should be a citizen while a person born from two american citizens outside of the USA is not. It just seems like the government is encouraging illegal immigration with how that works out. Ideally we would force factories to cleanup their act and make it safe to work in and not have a need for illegal immigrants to work those jobs because they would be more attractive to the regular person. So, im against the factories that employ the illegal immigrants but not against the illegals. -

Whatever, so because you have 1 example of people being lazy that you also have no evidence that their illegal immigrants only that their hispanic thats what you base your judgement off of. Some of you need to get a clue and open your eyes. Not everyone has been here for 3 generations, is white, or has the financial backing to immigrate. And since im fairly confident all of you posting right now have no clue what thats like, its useless arguing a point. Especially when someone compares war to being an illegal immigrant or robbing a bank which is just utter stupidity. War causes death, destruction of homes, an invasion of another country by force.... a bank robbery is putting your own life and everyone in that banks life at risk, even if you dont plan on using your gun. And if you dont have a gun than your not robbing a bank. Illegal immigrants are filling jobs that nobody else wants to do, being in hazardous working conditions and making below mininum wage. To compare that with war saying they are equal is just utter nonsense. Im done debating this topic. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 08:49 AM) If McCarthy pitched for say Seattle, he would be a candidate for the all-star team this season. He's just in a terrible situation over there in Texas, who need to be finding groundball pitchers and not flyball pitchers such as B-Mac. Not 2 mention that Texas has been horrid defensivly this season so when he does get groundballs it gets booted.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 08:34 AM) Why not? If all it takes is a nobel cause, and trying to improve people's lives to excuse illegal activity... that works for me. I think I might go and improve my family's life by robbing a bank... Do you think Congress will make a law to cover my butt too? Again not comparable offenses, and the first one doesnt work because one results in the death of many people and the destruction of towns. Plus how is robbing a bank beneficial to america at all? Illegal immigrants do jobs most citizens dont want to do, they are beneficial to the country. So you tell me how robbing a bank and killing people is comparable to someone wanting a good life for their family and working harder than you ever will to achieve that goal. And working in a way that doesnt harm others or put them in dangers way. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 08:20 AM) So all it takes is a nobel cause to excuse everything? Cool. George W Bush is trying to instill democracy in Iraq, there now everyone should love the Iraq War. Even if he lied and broke a few laws along the way, who cares, he is trying to make a better future for their kids. Now Bush's ratings should go through the roof, right? War and illegal immigration arent comparable at all -

GoodAsGould replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
illegal immigrants do all the dirty jobs that most citizens want to have no part of doing. They work harder than anyone who posts on this message board and get paid a helluva lot less all for the hope that life can be better for their family and a better future for their kids..... so yes I think arresting all of them is utter bulls***. -

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) So are you saying the Sox don't need another slow, one dimensional player whose one dimension is power to come in and whiff 100+ times per year? Bob he is not slow, a butcher in the field but Dunn is actually pretty fast. -

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) That's what I was thinking. No matter how bad we are this year, I wouldn't trade giving up Lee, Maggs, etc. for anything b/c it allowed us to spend $$$ elsewhere and put together the pieces that led to our World Championship. Maybe, maybe not. We won that year because of pitching and we still would of had Buehrle, Garcia, Garland, and Contreras. Might not of had El Duque but he has a pretty dissapointing season anyways and was injured for a large part, besides that one inning vs the redsox I would say he would have been a dissapointment. B-Mac probably would have been the replacement guy for him that year. Than we would still have Cotts, Politte, Jenks, and Hermanson who were the main guys in the bp. -
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) Considering how close some of our guys have been to no hitters I'm glad we finally got one by Buehrle this season. That start by Buehrle vs the Mariners in 05 where he struck out 12 and allowed three hits all to Ichiro facing the minimum and recording the fastest game. You could argue 3 hits is done a lot, but all to Ichiro while facing the minimum is quite a feat. Then those Garcia starts vs the Twins and Angels where he only allowed one hit. Anywho, Verlander is flat out nasty. One thing about watching great things like that happen is I enjoy them more after we've done them. Kind of that "I remember that feeling..." im pretty sure he didnt face the mininum in that game. Because like you said 3 hits from Ichiro and its hard to believe he got out on a double play 3 times. The other time he did face the mininum was vs Cleveland a couple years back, in that game he allowed 2 baserunners both which ended up turning into double plays. Also his last out of that game was Grady Sizemore's first ab if I remember right.

What the hell was Ozzie doing today?
GoodAsGould replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah no problem with Ozzie today, of course if we lose someone has to be blamed though and god knows it cant be the players -
Cardinals simply put just dont have the prospects to trade for Buehrle.

Who are some options for us at SS in 2008
GoodAsGould replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) No, SLG and OPS is just as important for leadoff hitters as it is middle of the order hitters. I want my leadoff hitter getting on base at a better clip, no doubt about that, but I also want him in scoring position. If a leadoff hitter gets a single, it's still going to take 2 and sometimes 3 hits to get him home, which is the exact same thing as the slowest man on the roster. Explain to me why Jimmy Rollins, what with his .335 OBP last year, was a better leadoff hitter and scored more runs than Kevin Youkilis and his .380 OBP. Or why Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez, and Grady Sizemore are like the 3 best leadoff hitters in the game. Does it have anything to do with their slugging percentages being .480+? (that answer is yes, in case you were wondering) It seems that people think that a leadoff hitter that hits 20 homers is a bad thing. Well Reyes, Ramirez, and Sizemore are 3 talented individuals that could easily be the 3 hitters for their teams. Maybe not Reyes yet but your talking about some of the most talented guys in baseball. And no it doesnt take 2 hits neccesarily to score that 1 guy home. He can easily advance on a SB/passedball, a bunt, a double can score the runner home or a single and a sac fly... not 2 mention the HR that you rely on the middle of your order guys to produce. Its far from a bad thing if your leadoff hitter his 20 HR's, just its not a bad thing if he hits less either. The main goal for a hitter from the leadoff spot is to get on base for the people behind you. So as long as he is getting on base at a .350-.360% I could careless what the other stats are. Youkilis is different because he isnt your prototypical leadoff hitter anyways, he has the good OBP but he is also super slow so he cant always go from 1st to 3rd on a single etc. All I care for about my leadoff hitter is that he has some speed and he gets on base at a good clip. -

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) god is Luis Castillo overrated here or what. He's the perfect example of how OBP is severely overrated on this board. He's got a career .370 OBP and has scored 100 runs in a season exactly once. And in that season, he stole 62 bases and got on at a .418 clip. For Minnesota last year, hitting in front of 2 of the best hitters in the league and 2 other very solid hitters, he scored 84 runs while getting on at a .358 clip in roughly 650 PAs. You think that had anything to do with his .370 SLG? He is a leadoff hitter, all you care about is him getting on base for the guys behind him. I dont care what his SLG if he gets on base at a solid rate. You really need to get off the SLG and OPS stat, its how you judge the middle of the order guys but different people in the lineup have different responsibilities. -

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) I know, but he is probably a baseball fan on top of it. Id assume most baseball umps are also fans to do the jobs that they do.

Id love to trade Dye for Billingsly and Vazquez to the Mets for maybe I cant remember their pitchings prospect name I think Humber and than Milledge. Than we could either have more than enough money to make a play at A-Rod or Ichiro. Or if the team feels like it we could just go completely young and sign neither. Whatever happens it opens up a lot of money gives us a lot of young talent and another good SP prospect close.
-
With the way this team has been playing I hope Floyd is up after the trade deadline. It would be really nice if we trade Dye and got Billingsly too. Have Floyd, Billingsly, and Danks altogether and probably promote Gio to AAA and depending on results maybe up in the rotation next year.

Kansas City 27. St. Louis 28. Pittsburgh 29. Washington 30. White Sox it appears as though OPS and Runs Scored have almost a direct correlation. So really, I'll continue to blindly put faith in OPS as an indicator of offensive success. Well thats this season, im sure there have been numerous times in the history of MLB where teams differed greatly from what the team OPS suggests. So you go straight ahead and base your decisions off one stat and be blind to everything else. OPS is one of many good stats, but like every other one you need to look past just 1 stat. -
Where KW is going with this team
GoodAsGould replied to caulfield12's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 12:21 PM) ahh no in fact I don't think he will even make a rotation in the bigs. Sorry I didn't use green. I suppose I was mocking all those who think GIo is great. That was my point. We got raped in this trade. It doesn't matter what Garcia is doing now. His trade value was higher than getting our own AA prospect back and a washed up crap pitcher at the ripe old age of 25. No one in baseball but many on this board love him. More delusional people? I think so. Let me thorw this one out there. lets say we go young and I am not against that as long as that is what is portrayed to the fans. Do you trust KW to build a team? Or is KW the next jerry Krause? just throwing it out there. I don't think KW can build a team, he can add to a team, he can get good value free agents, but he may not be able to rebuild a team. Just something to think about. Difference is Jerry Krause only built the first team thanks to having the greatest player of all time arguably on the team. KW built his WS winner with our best hitter being Paul Konerko, our best SP a castoff, and found 2 shutdown closers for that season for nothing. KW actually built a team Krause lucked into the best player of all time and just used it properly. And really, who knows where this team would be if Krause kept the team? Would we still have Artest? Would a team of Curry, Chandler, Artest, Crawford, and a healthy Jay Williams be good? I mean cant really blame Krause for a guy ruining his career on a motorcycle. -

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) If there was some actual dependable power in the lineup outside of Thome, Konerko, and maybe Pierzynski, it'd be interesting. As is, you're looking at a lineup with the potential to have 4 or maybe 5 starting players put up OPS's of under .700. Add to it that the team might not slug .400 as a team, and I think I'd rather sign Cecil Fielder and put him at 2B than go out there with that lineup. I see that lineup struggling to put up 700 runs. Eh thats your personal opinion, Im not saying id neccesarily want that lineup going into next season but I think that lineup is full of guys who will get on base for you and get key hits. I love OPS but dont put too much stock into it, there is more to baseball that one stat. -
It seemed like the judge over-stepped his boundaries a lot in this case, could make for an appeal. I think the judge needs to get the stick out of his ass personally. And im not a Paris fan at allll.
